Christian Budde Advanced Clipper

Christian Budde has released Advanced Clipper, a freeware VST effect plug-in for Windows PC.

The ‘Advanced Clipper’ is basically a hard clipping plugin with two stages. Additional oversampling reduces alias noise. The oversampling algorithm is based on butterworth filters (as can be found in rubberfilter) and thus will affect the group delay (you can notice a delay of some samples in extreme cases).

Advanced Clipper features

  • Two stages of minimum phase, butterworth oversampler.
  • Hard clip at higher sample rates.
  • Oversampling of up to 16x (in both stages).
  • Filter order up to 64 (using the max. order will introduce noticable group delay).
  • Tunable transition frequency (in parameter view).
  • Several presets.
  • Nice GUI.

xoxos releases Friction

xoxos Friction

xoxos has released Friction, a virtual instrument that combines a friction algorithm with a 2nd order mass-spring to model surface responsivity, and two filtered waveguides to describe primary resonances.

xoxos describes the sounds of Friction as squealing tires, squeaky hinges and axles, ww2 bombs, swingsets, etc. (mp3 demo)

Friction features

  • Friction – Controls for force, velocity, grip and impedance.
  • Mass-springs – two mass-springs running in series, or a 2nd order mass-spring.
  • Boundaries – boundary conditions are applied to limit and reflect the first order. Separate upper and lower thresholds limit the signal like a compressor.
  • Resonances – two delays are applied where the mass-spring and friction algorithms meet. These are intended for the emulation of resonant channels, such as a bar on an iron gate, the length of a swinging cable, or the volume of a chamber.
  • Output – signals generated by the synthesis engine are passed through a 1- to 4-pole highpass filter positioned before the amplification envelope.
  • Sends and modulation heirarchy – Sends are used to assign controllers and to route modulation sources to multiple destinations. So that modulators can be assigned to other modulation sources, a heirarchy is used, and the sends are split into groups.
  • Envelopes – Up to 32 sections can be used, with a variety of contours selectable by clicking on the envelope section you wish to edit.
  • LFOs – 13 waveshapes, including a stepped and smooth noise option.
  • X-Y pad – Can be assigned using the send section. The rate of movement is also available as a modulation source.
  • Arkecode VST Oversampler – Included wrapper that doubles the sample rate of the enclosed plugin. This allows you to improve the timbre of emulations without running all plugins at a higher sample rate.

Friction is available as a VST plug-in for Widows PC. The license is $15 USD (or $10 USD for current customers). A demo version with some parameters removed is available for download.

ArkeCode updates VST Oversampler to v1.4

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Feb 07, 2008 - comment 0 comments

ArkeCode has released version 1.4 of VST Oversampler, a freeware plug-in which hosts another VST plugin, and oversamples it by 2.

Because of this, aliasing has twice the frequency range to unfold, which means that the aliasing that enters back into the audible domain is much less, and upon downsampling, the upper range (containing only aliasing) is discarded. This results in audibly reduced aliasing.

Changes in v1.4

  • Memory leaks fixed.
  • Removed annoying popups.
  • ioChanged implemented.
  • AEffect data is recopied when resuming processing (fix for some odd plugins).

VST Oversampler is available for Windows PC.

Visit ArkeCode for more information and a link to download Oversampler VST.

ArkeCode releases VST Oversampler v1.3.5 beta

ArkeCode has released version 1.3.5 beta of VST Oversampler, a VST plug-in for Windows PC which hosts another VST plugin, and oversamples it by 2.

Because of this, aliasing has twice the frequency range to unfold, which means that the aliasing that enters back into the audible domain is much less, and upon downsampling, the upper range (containing only aliasing) is discarded. This results in audibly reduced aliasing.

Changes in v1.3.5 beta

  • Implemented accumulated processing.
  • Now works with 64-bit plugins on 64-bit hosts (it tricks the host into thinking 32-bit).
  • Fixed minor memory error that could have caused trouble (delete instead of delete[]).
  • Took out old filter initialization from pre-HIIR days.
  • Took out unnecessary debug logging.
  • Reimplemented correct syncing.

Wusik releases Wusik VST Tools

Wusik Tool Melody

Wusik has released Wusik VST Tools, a set of tools for processing VSTs.

Wusik VST Tools work just like a regular VST, but inside you have the option to load another VST and process it depending on the tool selected. Notice that nothing else is required to use this tools, only a VST Host and VSTs to load inside.

Wusik VST Tools includes:

  • Wusik Tool ARP: features a step-grid and ARP Speed selector. Regular Up, Down, Up-Down and Random modes. Each for the option of up to 3 octaves
  • Wusik Tool Melody: You play a chord in the lower section of the midi-keyboard, and the upper section white-keys will follow the chord you play. This tool has 3 modes: Free Chord Play, One Finger Chord – where you can assign up to 12 chords to unique keys and Transposer Key/Octave mode
  • Wusik Tool Over-Sampler: Lets you load a VSTi and select 2 to 4 times over-sampling. So, if you are at 48khz, at 2x oversampling you get 96khz. that results in much smoother sound, and less aliasing. It also has a global Bypass option, when selected, will turn-off over-sampling for all loaded instances

Demo versions are available for download with the limitation that you can’t change anything on the loaded VST GUI and Song/Preset/Bank saving is not implemented.

Wusik VST Tools is available for Windows VST and costs $59.95 USD. By purchasing this set of tools, you also receive any new tools we may add to the set in the future.

Visit Wusik for more information, audio demos and demo versions of the Wusik VST Tools.
