Analogue Drums intros Bombastix – Kontakt Edition

Analogue Drums Bombastix

Analogue Drums has released Bombastix , a virtual drum instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Bombastix is a sampling of a “holy grail” classic 1976 Ludwig in serious rock dimensions, including a gargantuan 26″ kick. The kit has been tracked with 3 distinct snare variations, and two sets of cymbals – hand picked classic Paistes, and modern Sabian AAXs – to give you plenty of options for fitting the kit to your track.

Bombastix will fit the bill for modern and classic rock tracks, or anywhere punchy hard hitting is required. It has been mixed for polished but natural tone – good-to-go as-is, or you can easily take the mix further.

The kit was sampled at The Lab studio in Auckland, New Zealand, in a mid-sized tracking room, though a Neve desk, with the usual assortment of high end hand-picked mics, and processed with select outboard pieces.

The library is available to purchase for $29 USD.

Paiste 2002 14

Shy Keidar has released Turritopsis Wide-Hat, free collection of high quality recordings of a Paiste 2002 14″ Medium hi-hat.

It’s unique. I made sure to give it a very wide, pleasant sounding stereo image while keeping the sound tight, with no weird differences between the channels, and making sure that I’ll be able to get a good sound either from the left channel alone, the right channel alone, or with the two channels mixed into a narrowed stereo image or mono. If you’re truly familiar with recording, you know that this is a very big deal. Other than that, the overall sound is proper and has a natural frequency response and no weird stuff.

It’s compact. Don’t expect a large amount of samples or any fancy stuff. It’s not amazingly versatile, but it is very usable. I carefully selected the samples for my own usage. It’s quick and simple to make your own patch for this in various available samplers. I don’t intend to make sample packs of other cymbals any time soon, in case you wonder.

The sample pack includes 34 samples in 44kHz/48kHz (68 total), and is a free download at synth.in (8.4 MB).

Toontrack releases The Blues EZX + MIDI pack

Toontrack The Blues EZX

Toontrack has announced the release of The Blues EZX, a sample library featuring 2 drum kits and grooves, sampled and played by Hans Lindbäck.

You can’t fool a blues lover. You know that it’s all about the craft, about the touch, the feel and the heart. We know you can spot a fake from a mile away. That’s why we’re proud to bring you the real deal – the custom, the calfskinned, the road-worn: The Blues EZX.

The Blues EZX comes with two complete kits; a 1970s Gretsch and a calfskinned Swedish Levin set from the 1940s. On top of that, it features contemporary Paiste and Sabian crashes, vintage Zildjan A and K series cymbals as well as extras such as a suitcase and a set of calfskinned tambourines. All instruments were handpicked and in many cases road-worn by the sampling drummer himself, a blues musician with more than half a decade worth of experience behind the kit playing the blues. It was recorded in an empty Swedish theater and later mixed in a high-end studio through vintage and modern outboard gear. The end result is a cross-pollination between new and old; warm and characteristic sounds that cover the whole range, from old school to modern, from dry to ambient. This is the sound of then, now and time to come.

The Blues EZX features

  • Two complete kits (1970s Gretsch & 1940s Levin).
  • Sabian/Paiste/Zildjian A & K cymbals.
  • Calfskin drumheads on Levin kit.
  • Suitcase & two vintage calfskinned Grover tambourines.
  • Included custom MIDI library.

The Blues EZX is available to purchase for 69 EUR / $89 USD.
