Soundiron releases Circle Bells 2.0 for Kontakt

Soundiron Circle Bells

Soundiron has announced the release of Circle Bells 2.0, a sample library recorded with a rare and unique instrument called “Blossom Bells” created by Pete Engelhart.

This hand-welded tuned percussion instrument features six steel conical bells that are tuned to different keys and spread out in a fan arrangement. Each bell has a deeply rich, warm and sonorous tone with a long sustain and crystalline clarity. We recorded them with soft mallets, hard picks and viola bow with both single-strikes/staccatos and rolls/sustains for each articulation.

Its distinctive sound evokes the feel of a steel Marimbaphone or Celeste when played with mallets and a glass armonica when bowed, yet its character and undulating resonance defies any direct comparison to any other instrument.

The new upgrade gives this classic tuned percussion favorite a complete upgrade and overhaul. Originally released in 2009 back at Tonehammer, this new 2.0 for Kontakt 5 now restores all of the sample content to the previously unavailable full depth, size and fidelity that was captured in the original recordings.

Now at over 5.5GB and 2893 samples, Circle Bells offers up to 10X round-robins and as many as 18 velocity layers per note, depending on the articulation. We’ve also added a big new selection of atmospheres, leads, pads, glitchified grooves and tonal sound-scapes, all crafted from the original raw acoustic source to provide beautiful sonic accompaniment and creative inspiration. We’ve programmed it into our popular modular layer-builder system giving you the power to load and customize any articulation instantly and blend it with another. We’ve also added a complete rack FX panel to further expand your creative options.

Circle Bells 2.0 is available to purchase for the introductory price of $39 USD through April 1st, 2014 (regular $59 USD). Requires the full retail version of Kontakt 5.1 or later. Existing owners of the original 1.0 can get the expansion for $5 USD through a special upgrade email.

Toontrack EZdrummer 2

Toontrack has announced EZdrummer 2, the second generation of the world’s most successful drum production software.

“This is not just an update or a new digit added to the logo, it’s a completely new program, overhauled down to the tiniest detail”, said Peter Knutsson, Toontrack’s CEO. “The release of EZdrummer 2 will not only be a milestone in the history of our company, it will be the day we add a new meaning to what the music industry commonly refers to as a ‘drum sampler’.”

EZdrummer 2 introduces a host of revolutionary songwriting features, the market’s most intuitive user interface, a completely remodeled audio engine, a new mixer with easy-to-use effect chains, two all-new mas- sive sound libraries as well as a selection of percussion. “The whole design approach behind EZdrummer 2 was to erase any technical barrier standing between song- writer and creativity,” said Erik Phersson, Toontrack’s head of development. “Looking back, it’s amazing how many extremely powerful features we managed to incorporate and still retain the overall ease of use. EZdrummer 2 is truly a marvel of how interaction design, smart functionality and cutting-edge sounds can work in perfect symbiosis.”

Toontrack also reported that coinciding with the release of EZdrummer 2, the entire line of sound library expan- sions (EZXs) will be modernized with completely new effect chains and graphics optimized for EZdrummer 2. With the 20 currently available titles spanning anything from jazz to extreme metal, the EZdrummer user base has access to by far the most extensive and versatile catalogue of drum sounds on the market.

“We are extremely proud to not only introduce a breakthrough in drum production software, but at the same time renew the whole EZdrummer Line. This is without a doubt the most massive launch we have ever undertaken”, said Peter Knutsson, Toontrack’s CEO.

EZdrummer 2 will be available May 6th, 2014, for a list price of $179 USD / 139 EUR. Upgrade from EZdrummer will be $99 USD / 79 EUR.

From March 13 2014 through May 6 2014, anyone who purchases EZdrummer will automatically be eligible for a free upgrade to EZdrummer 2 (digital delivery only, available for download on release day from each regis- tered user’s personal Toontrack account).

Sonic Zest releases Glass Hand Drums

Sonic Zest has announced the release of Glass Hand Drums, a new instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Sonic Zest Glass Hand Drums

Halfway between percussion and melodic instrument sits these glass hand drums. Sonically they are reminiscent of hand drums and halo drums.

To capture beauty and quirky nature of these instruments 5x round robins and 3 velocity layers were utilised. What you hear is the sound of the drums being patted, clapped and slapped to unearth their haunting tones. A sound design patch also comes with the instrument, which produces a pad-like sound that would probably work well in a horror movie.

Sonic Zest’s Glass Hand Drums sits perfectly in any mix. It’s great to any set-up and is ideal for playing lullabies and other lead melodies that you may be working on.

The library is available to purchase for the introductory price of $16 USD.

FXpansion releases Vintage DrumBox Geist Expander

FXpansion has announced the release of Vintage DrumBox, a collection of synthesized analogue drum samples for the Geist drum instrument for Windows and Mac.

FXpansion Vintage DrumBox

Created by Mr Hoodie from The Groove Criminals, Vintage DrumBox is the result of obsessively sampling a set of strange, esoteric and crusty old machines. The included sounds are warm, rounded and perfect as an antidote or accompaniment to more modern timbres. The pack also features a bonus selection of riffs and arps from some classic analogue synths.

Some highlights of Vintage DrumBox include early preset accompaniment and organ-top boxes like the Hammond AutoVari and Watford Rhythm Generator, Amdek and Electro Harmonix percussion tone generators and rare drum machines such as the Vermona DRM-1. Legendary analogue BBD delay, tape echoes and spring reverbs are judiciously used to add further textures and flavours.

Vintage DrumBox features loops, kits and presets for FXpansion’s Geist software. Samples are supplied in 24-bit 44.1kHz WAV and RX2 formats and can be loaded into any software or hardware that supports them.

Vintage DrumBox is available to purchase for $29 USD / 25 EUR / £22 GBP inc VAT for all registered Geist owners.
