Universal Audio releases Pultec Passive EQ Plug-In Collection

Related: , , , Posted in news on Jul 10, 2013 - comment 0 comments

Universal Audio has announced the release of the Pultec Passive EQ Plug-In Collection, comprising the EQP-1A, MEQ-5 equalizers, and HLF-3C filter.

Lauded as the most popular outboard studio equalizers ever made, these classic Pultec EQs can be heard on countless hit recordings from the past five decades. The EQP-1A Program EQ is famous for bringing out individual frequency ranges without significantly altering neighboring frequencies, remaining smooth and musical even with extreme levels of boost. With the companion MEQ-5 Mid-Range Equalizer, producers can skillfully tweak the mid-range thanks to its abundance of band overlap and unique filter interactions. Finally, the HLF-3C adds 12 dB per octave low and high cut filters, providing broad, retro-flavored tone sculpting.

The new Pultec Passive EQ Collection models the complex transformer and tube amplifier nonlinearities of these must-have tools, in addition to their unique filter interactions. The result is a dead-on emulation of the Pultec’s signature air, silkiness, and warmth.

Universal Audio Pultec Passive EQ Plug-In Collection
Legendary EQP-1A, MEQ-5, and HLF-3C EQs Immaculately Modeled for UAD-2 DSP Accelerators and Apollo Audio Interfaces.

Pultec Passive EQ Collection features

  • Faithful circuit reproduction of the most popular outboard studio equalizers ever made.
  • Models entire electronic path of three Pultec EQs — including tube amplifiers and transformers — for colorful, highly-musical distortion characteristics.
  • EQP-1A Program EQ provides silky, vintage highs and tight, focused lows using combined boost/cut resonant shelf dip.
  • MEQ-5 Mid-Range EQ features broad, overlapping frequency selections for fine peak and dip midrange filter control.
  • HLF-3C EQ delivers 12 dB cut filter for tonal sculpting or special effects.
  • Includes artist presets from Neal Cappellino (Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley), Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M.,Taylor Swift), David Isaac (Prince, Eric Clapton, Robin Thicke) & more.
  • Requires UAD-2 DSP Accelerator Card or Apollo Interface, available from authorized dealers worldwide.

The Pultec Passive EQ Plug-In Collection costs $299 USD, or $149 USD for current owners of the legacy Pultec Pro EQ plug-in.

OverTone DSP launches Vintage Mastering Bundle

OverTone DSP Vintage Mastering Bundle

OverTone DSP announced the release of the Vintage Mastering Bundle, comprising the FC70 Fairchild 670 Limiter and PTC-2A Vintage Pultec EQ plug-ins for Windows and Mac OS X.

The PTC-2A is a superb emulation of the legendary Pultec EQP-1A, one of the most sought-after vintage equalizers. Separate LF Boost and Attenuate controls provide the signature Pultec sounds, while, as in the original hardware, a transformer-coupled tube amplifier stage further enhances the vintage qualities. Innovative filter technology provides a genuine analogue response without requiring conventional CPU-intensive techniques.

The FC70 emulates the legendary smooth, effortless dynamic control and uniquely musical character of the classic Fairchild 670 limiter. Modelled using measured data and schematics from genuine hardware, the FC70 uses a fully balanced design, combined with innovative delay-free feedback topology to emulate the original circuitry. The sidechain includes the fast attack and program dependent release settings of the original, combined with Lateral / Vertical, Independent and Linked stereo channel modes.

The bundle is available or purchase for the introductory price of £25 GBP until July 31st, 2013 (30% off individual prices).

SKnote Somma

Built around the old “analog computing” technique, Somma is designed to provide deep control on the dynamic harmonic content of audio tracks, stems, mixes, masters.

Somma features eight balanced input channels with individual saturation model selection (six independent configurations available on each channel) and saturation level controls, providing deep control on the amount of dynamic harmonic enhancement and on the behavior of each channel.

Somma features

  • Eight input channels (linkable as four stereo pairs), expandable.
  • Balanced or unbalanced input and output stages.
  • Second and third harmonic saturation.
  • Individual controls for each channel (saturation curve, saturation amount).
  • Texture controls on the master stereo bus (low band for punch, high band for air).
  • Independent saturation and volume controls for the master stereo bus.

Ferro is a stereo parallel air EQ.

SKnote Ferro

Including a fully discrete signal path and input and output transformers, Ferro is a passive stereo device (no mains) that dynamically adds mid and high frequency range presence, weight and open-ness to tracks, stems, mixes and masters.

Including custom inductors and transformers, Ferro also features a switchable inter-channel (left-right) coupling control to set the amount of galvanically insulated interaction between the channels, happening in the selected range.

Ferro features

  • Completely passive, custom inductors and transformers.
  • One stereo or two mono channels.
  • Parallel dynamic equalisation.
  • Six band-selections available for each channel.
  • Input and output transformers bypass individual controls.
  • 100% wet switch for parallel processing.
  • True-bypass switches.
  • Inter-channel crosstalk control for the selected frequency band.

Somma and Ferro are available to purchase for the introductory Musikmesse price of $799 USD / $499 USD respectively. DIY kits are $649 USD / $449 USD. Prices ex taxes and shipping.

SKnote has also released the MCAudioLab EQ1, a passive equalizer effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

SKnote MCAudioLab EQ1
MCAudioLab EQ1 SKnote Plugin – Solid State and Tube power supply edition.

A pultec-style equaliser, with tube output stage, solid state and tube power supply options.
