Livid Instruments announces Ohm Classic Recycling Program

Related: , , , , // Posted in news on Jul 13, 2009

In an effort to cut down on waste, reuse expensive components, and fight the growing disposability of consumer goods, Livid Instruments has announced the Ohm Classic Recycling Program.

Livid Instruments Ohm64 recycling program

Our Ohm recycle program allows us to reuse the wood, fader and rotary knobs, crossfaders, rotary pots, ribbon cables, and fasteners in your Ohm, and repurpose them into an entirely new Ohm64 control surface. Your good-as-new Ohm64 will have a new aluminum faceplate, internal circuitry, backplate, and rubber button pads. The recycled controller will have all of the features of a brand new Ohm, but will reduce environmental impact and cost less then a brand new Ohm64.

While we do source our wood from mostly renewable forests, our wood bodies are hand crafted and do take a long time from being planted to becoming a controller. Our recycle program makes us feel better about reusing the wood bodies, and saves on waste and natural resources that would go into making a whole new body. Steel from the old faceplates are also recycled and will most likely eventually end up taking form as another consumer based good.

Current owners of the Ohm Classic (a.k.a Ohm36) can send their Ohm control surfaces in to be converted into Ohm64 Models for $349 USD (includes a free copy of Cell DNA that is customized for the Ohm64 controller).

Recyclings will be scheduled in limited runs, with the first run starting on July 23rd.

Visit Livid Instruments for details on how to participate in the Ohm Classic Recycling Program.

SteamSHIFT REX2MPC

SteamSHIFT has released REX2MPC, a utility that allows you to easily convert Propellerheads Recycle files (rcy, rex & rx2) for use with the MPC 1000 and MPC 2500.

This essentially allows a producer to chop a breakbeat (or other sample) using their Mac instead of having to use the built-in chopshop and small screen on the sampler itself. It also makes sample CD’s with pre-chopped loops a lot more useful for MPC users.

REX2MPC is available (Mac only) for £11 GBP. A 14 day trial version is available for download from the product page.

Visit SteamSHIFT for more information.
