The Sound Department – Austin releases Beat-Sliced Guitars for Kontakt

TSD Austin Beat-Sliced Guitars

The Sound Department – Austin has announced the release of Beat-Sliced Guitars, its first sample based instrument for Kontakt.

This is an innovative, dynamic, beat oriented guitar instrument set unlike any other.

It’s simple really – guitar played rhythmically in all the common note length variations and two playing styles, sampled and sliced so that it stays solidly in time with your host. Add some Kontakt magic like filters, delays and envelope loop patterns and voila – an incredibly expressive, inspirational and downright fun to play instrument! Multis extend the possibilities by adding a second or third instance with different keyswitch mappings so that more interesting and complex rhythmic patterns arise as different keyswitched note values are played against each other.

If you’re looking for an instrument that will let your guitar-slinger solos sound as close to a “real” guitar as possible (or as close as midi will allow), look elsewhere. What these instruments will do is provide a fresh and organic rhythmic timbre that is at once unique and familiar. No matter what your style, these instruments will give your compositions a solid edge.

Beat-Sliced Guitars features

  • 348 48kHz 24-bit sample loops per instrument (~180 MB uncompressed)
  • 29 notes (C1 – E3) and 6 common time values (whole, quarter, quarter triplet, eighth, eighth triplet and sixteenth)
  • Each note value and note length performed, sampled and looped for a 4/4 measure or more with two performance styles – staccato (or palm mute) and legato. Original loops are at 75 BPM but are sliced (ala REX files) so that they are useful over a wide range of tempos. We have also included a ’1/2-Time’ switch for programmers who like to double their tempo for finer resolution.
  • Velocity switches between staccato and legato playing styles.
  • Keyswitches control the note length values.
  • Performance controls allow you to easily map parameters like filter cutoff and delay amount to your controller.
  • Compatible with Kontakt 5.1 and later. Does not work with Kontakt Player.

Beat-Sliced Guitar libraries are available for the introductory price of $12 USD each (regular $18 USD).

Soundcells releases Thor Source v4 ReFill

Soundcells Thor Source v4

Soundcells has announced the release of its Thor Source v4 ReFill for Propellerhead Reason featuring the sounds of the Source synthesizer by Moog.

Thor’s modular design gave us the chance to rebuild the Source’s details with great accuracy. Then we copied our favorite Source patches with great ease into Thor and after this we managed to take those sounds numerous steps further. The sounding results however stayed amazingly close to the Source’s character. In this ReFill’s documentary folder you’ll find proof of this. Thor makes the Source polyphonic and velocity sensitive as well. By now you’ll understand that this ReFill goes way beyond only emulating the past.

Thor Source offers you deep and fat basses, retro and nu style leads, wonderfull keyboard sounds, mouth watering pads, analog drums and more. Version 2 & 3 added four sampled raw oscillator settings from the original synthesizer as also fully sampled Moog Source sounds, new combinator patches and new backdrops.
Version 4 adds 15 new combinator patches, 10 new rex loops and a reworked folder structure for a much easier use of this ReFill.

Thor Source v4 features

  • 229 combinator patches.
  • 25 original documentary patches each in 4 versions.
  • 74 combinator patches making full use of Reason’s devices.
  • 55 combinator patches based on the sampled raw oscillator settings and the fully sampled ones.
  • 40 new rex loops.
  • 370+ Moog Source samples in 44Khz / 24 bit.

The ReFill is available to purchase for the introductory price of 17.90 EUR until March 31st, 2013 (regular 24.90 EUR).

Loopmasters releases Felix’s Machines – Robot Percussion

Loopmasters has launched Felix’s Machines – Robot Percussion, a sample library by Felix Thorn.

Felix’s Machines were initially conceived in an experiment aiming to facilitate live music by transforming sound into a three-dimensional visual show. As an ongoing project, the music-performing machines built by Felix do not intend to match human potential. Instead they exist to test the advantages of mechanical instruments alone.

Robot Percussion features mesmerising performances of hand built music monsters triggering a range of real drums, bells, chimes, motors and discarded objects controlled by a computer brain creating complex rhythms and intricate soundscapes.

Robot Percussion features

  • 71 live percussion loops, 301 virtual & manipulated loops.
  • 9 bass drum hits, 9 snare hits, 13 cymbal hits, 35 glockelspiel sounds, 133 percussion hits, 7 synth hits.
