Cinematique Instruments releases Concert Zither

Cinematique Instruments has announced Concert Zither, a virtual zither instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Cinematique Instruments Concert Zither

We treated the Concert Zither very hard. We plucked, stroke and strummed all the strings to get every possible sound, noise and articulation the Zither can make. Finally we assembled 6 different patches. Firstly there are two the main patch with all the 36 strings recorded in 4 round robin variations and several (up to four) dynamic layer. We additionally recorded the 31 accompaniment strings in a muted variation.

All these notes were recorded with two different types of microphones: a large-diaphragm condenser pair as well as a classic dynamic microphone. By turning a corresponding mic balance knob you can infinitely mix between these two different sound properties. Finally – in order to shape the sound – we added a complex script to achieve lots of different variations of the Concert Zither. By moving the mod wheel you can fade between vibrato and non-vibrato notes.

Beside the main complex patches we provide another 4 useful FX patches, separated into textures, strokes & hits (with dynamic layers) and weird noises. Here you find a great assortment of rare and exceptional FX string sounds.

Concert Zither features

  • Includes 6 patches:
    • Concert Zither Natural.
    • Concert Zither Cinematique.
    • Cacophony Textures.
    • FX (glissandi and noises).
    • CZ FX Percussive.
    • Cacophony Dead.
  • ~2 GB content, over 2,100 samples.

The library is available for purchase for 38 EUR. Requires full version of Kontakt 4.22 or higher.

K-Sounds releases Epic Grand for Korg Kronos and Kronos X

K-Sounds Epic Grand

K-Sounds has announced the release of Epic Grand for the Korg Kronos and Kronos X, featuring detailed stereo samples of a Japanese grand piano.

Epic Grand was designed with quality in mind. The samples were recorded and edited at 176.4kHz, 24 / 32 bits, then converted to Kronos-compatible specifications for the final product. A close mic position was used, creating an up-front, studio sound. The stereo image is wide, centered, and mono-compatible. Every note has a generous, natural-sounding sustain.

Epic Grand offers eight sampled dynamic layers plus damper resonance, release resonance, hammer noise samples, and multi-dynamic damper noise samples. All samples are unlooped, lasting up to twenty seconds.

Epic Grand’s damper resonance samples are true recordings of the sympathetic string resonance heard when notes are played with the damper pedal down. Sampling the actual resonance of a real piano provides authenticity that surpasses digital effects and convolution. This resonance is presented as an independent component of the instrument, allowing it to respond to the sustain pedal in real time. Users can adjust its volume or disable it altogether.

In addition to a variety of programs, five layer / split combinations are provided. Each one blends the piano with multiple instruments that can be independently activated and disabled during a performance. A keyboardist could begin by playing solo piano, add strings, add electric piano, and then return to solo piano – all without causing a break in the sound! Taking this concept further, additional combinations focused on solo piano allow users to independently add or subtract damper resonance, release resonance, hammer noises, and damper noises.

Epic Grand is designed to be incredibly playable. It was constantly played during its development to ensure that it responds dynamically and musically.

Epic Grand features

  • Close-miked, unlooped samples up to 20 seconds long.
  • Eight sampled dynamic layers.
  • True sampled damper resonance with real-time sustain pedal response.
  • Release resonance samples.
  • Hammer noise samples.
  • Damper noise samples triggered by the sustain pedal.
  • Big “studio” sound with modest system requirements.
  • Wide stereo image.
  • Mono-compatible.
  • Custom programs and combinations provided.
  • Designed to be incredibly playable.

Epic Grand is available for purchase for $125 USD.

Cluster Sound releases OSCAR Live Pack

Related: , , , Posted in news on Apr 11, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Cluster Sound has announced the release of Oscar, a massive multi-sample Live Pack based on the OSC Oscar, a rare and iconic British synthesizer from the early ’80.

Cluster Sound Oscar

The OSCar is a vintage hybrid digital/analogue synth from British manufac-turer Oxford Synthesiser Company (OSC). Designed by Chris Hugget after the collapse of EDP, this masterpiece of engineering features digitally controlled dual oscillators with analog filters and plenty of knobs packed into a yellow plastic case with distinctive rubber elements.

The Oscar implements two wide-range DCOs and a set of 5 additive waveforms but can also carry out harmonic synthesis, allowing to create customized waveforms. The filter is built from two resonant multimode 2-pole filters (the same used in the Wasp synth) with overdrive and separation controls. The digital oscillators and the analog filters are digitally controlled using a Zilog Z80a microprocessor running at 4Mhz.

The Oscar simply sounds like no other synthesizers. Thanks to the characteristic filter design and the additive facility, this stunning rubber-based synth can generate a sound palette far wider than any other monosynth. The Oscar can easily deliver mellow organs, dark drones, brutal distorted basses, sharp pseudo-digital FX and screaming leads. It can also generate classic analog sounds but it’s at its best when taken to extreme.

Oscar is based on 64 multi-sample recordings and 285 WAV effects and loops obtained by stressing the subtractive/additive oscillators through the split personality filter. This Live Pack delivers 271 Instrument Racks, 161 Live Clips and 5 meticulously crafted Audio Effect Racks, an ultra-flexible package delivering one of the coolest vintage synth ever made.

OSCAR features

  • Size: 1.9 Gigabytes.
  • 24 Bits / 44.1 Khz.
  • 64 Multi-sample recordings.
  • 161 Live Clips (119 Audio + 42 Midi).
  • 105 Multi-sample Instruments.
  • 166 FX Instruments.
  • 5 Audio Effect Racks.

The Live Pack is available for purchase for 29 EUR.
