TC-Helicon and Sennheiser join forces

Vocal processing expert TC-Helicon and audio specialist Sennheiser have unveiled their partnership in the field of vocal effects microphones.

TC-Helicon / Sennheiser

Combining their extensive expertise in creating tools for vocalists and microphone technology, the two companies have been working on joint research projects since 2011, and will launch a joint product at NAMM in January 2013.

“The initial spark for our co-operation was at NAMM 2011, when TC-Helicon premiered a microphone with controls for vocal effects and Sennheiser demonstrated ‘Concept Tahoe’, a beatboxing microphone developed in their research lab in the USA,” says Kevin Alexander, CEO of TC-Helicon. “We had never met, we had never talked – and happened to be showing the same product!”

“We sat down together right at the show in a very open and friendly atmosphere and talked about what we were working on in our respective companies. We immediately saw each other as partners,” says Michael Polten, Director Customer Relationship Management at Sennheiser. “TC-Helicon’s mission is to give singers full control and Sennheiser’s aim is to provide excellent microphones – so our brands were a perfect fit.”

TC-Helicon and Sennheiser started a joint research project, exploring how to interface their products to provide one-stop solutions for singers and musicians – products that will make a real difference for their users. The first results of the commitment will be seen at NAMM 2013, where the companies will launch a joint product.

Kevin Alexander: “We are very excited about this upcoming product bundle. Taking the most innovative microphone brand and the most popular vocal processing brand can only be a good thing for singers.”

VirSyn iVoxel (Mac)

VirSyn has announced that iVoxel, the vocoder previously released for iOS, is now available for the Mac platform.

iVoxel is not only an amazingly sounding vocoder – the unique concept of iVoxel turns this vocoder into a singing machine. iVoxel is a combination of a voice optimized synthesizer and a vocoder.

The vocoder part is based on the Matrix vocoder from VirSyn used by many famous artists – one of them the well known german group Kraftwerk. The channel filters used by iVoxel are based on the Sennheiser Vocoder VSM201 resulting in a rich and fat analogue sound characteristic.

iVoxel features

  • Realtime analysis/resynthesis of your voice.
  • 20 Channel vocoder.
  • Voice spectrum recorder (voxels).
  • Over 200 prerecorded voxels included.
  • Play your vocoded voice live on keyboard. Drag for slides and vibrato. .
  • CoreMIDI support allows use of external MIDI keyboard.
  • Monophonic sequencer for notes & lyrics.
  • Voice optimized polyphonic synthesizer.
  • Time warping of voxels.
  • Gender changer.
  • Breath noise.
  • 12dB Lowpass filter.
  • Pitch vibrato with delay.

RedWirez Marshall 1960A/Celestion G12M-25s, free IR library

RedWirez Marshall 1960A/Celestion G12M-25

RedWirez has released a free impulse library of a Marshall 1960A with Celestion G12M 25-watt Greenbacks.

Ah, the legendary Marshall 1960A. Pretty, ain’t it? With its grill-cloth glistening in the bar-light as this beast muscles out power chords in an amaranthine haze of smoke, hot lights and adoring fans… this cab positively reeks of rock… the raucous, beer-soaked, unapologetic kind. Oh, and it sounds great, too.

It was the first cab we ever sampled and is still one of our favorites, so it seems fitting to release these IRs into the wild on Redwirez’ birthday.

Marshall 1960A IR features

  • Loaded with four, well-traveled 25-watt Celestion G12M “Greenbacks”.
  • 17 industry standard mics, so explore countless tonal possibilities: AKG C414B-ULS, Audix D6, Audix i5, Beyerdynamic M160, Coles 4038, Electrovoice RE20, Heil PR30, Neumann KM84, Neumann U47, Neumann U67, Neumann U87, Royer R121, Sennheiser MD409, Sennheiser MD421, Shure SM57, Shure SM7, TAB-Funkenwerk SM57. The paid version also includes DPA 4007, Neumann U47FET, Sennheiser MD441, Unidyne III 545, Earthworks TC30, Neumann M7 on BLUE Bottle, Neumann M8 on BLUE Bottle.
  • Added IRs of the G12M’s impedance curve at varying degrees of prominince (paid version only). These can be used to capture the effect of a tube amp interacting with the speaker. In general, tube amps have a higher output impedance than solid-state amps. As a result the speaker’s frequency response is shaped to varying degrees by it’s own impedance curve. All of our cabs will be getting this update in the near future.
  • Up to 54 positions per mic for a total of 777 IRs (1048 in the paid version)
  • Uncompromising signal chain that won’t add undesirable color to your sound. Bryston 4B -> Cab -> Mic -> Neve 1073 or Earthworks 1022 -> Prism Orpheus.
  • Edited for better phase coherence allowing you to mix multiple IRs.

The Marshall 1960A/G12M cab is available as a free download (valid email address required).
