Softube has introduced Transient Shaper, a dual-band transient shaping effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.
Transient Shaper can not only perform transient shaping in an unusually smooth manner, but it’s also dual band which opens to a new realm of possibilies. We’re demonstrating Transient Shaper at the NAMM show in Anaheim, California, and it will be released in February.
The dual band operation of Transient Shaper means that the user can set it to affect only the treble or bass portion of a sound—separately for the Sustain and Punch parameters—and leave the rest untouched. For example, on drum overheads, this means you can turn up the Sustain knob and set its frequency control to Wide. This will simultaneously stretch out the room sound and cymbals, as well as give you more sustain and boom to the toms. But let’s say you don’t want boomier toms. Then you set the Sustain knob’s frequency control switch to Hi, in which case the Sustain processing only affects the high frequencies, i.e. the cymbals and room, but leaves the toms just the way they are. Set the switch to Lo, and hear how you now only get boom from the toms, but the room sound and cymbals stay unaffected.
This makes Transient Shaper a much more versatile tool than most transient shaping plug-ins, and its use goes way beyond drums and percussion—it can do wonders to enhance clarity of a vocal track, turn up (or down) room sound in acoustic instrument recordings, and much more.
Tranient Shaper will be available for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX), priced at $89 USD from authorized Softube dealers ($99 USD from our More Is More Webstore). A 20 day demonstration license will be available for free (requires an iLok USB dongle).
Softube will be demonstrating Transient Shaper at the NAMM show in Anaheim, California, and it will be released in February.

Marco Raaphorst of Melodiefabriek has announced the release of Boutique Amp, a ReFill library for the Softube Amp Rack Extension.
Boutique Amp ReFill for Propellerhead Reason gives you access to the classic sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Billy Gibbons, Angus Young, Brian May, Steve Lukather and many more. It consists of 54 patches which are build on the Softube Amp Rack Extension (included for free with Reason 8 or bought separately for Reason 6.5 and Reason 7 users). Although many of the patches can be pushed hard to obtain overdriven tones no “scooped mids” Metal sounds were included, because I am not a Metal head.
The amp sounds included in this Boutique Amp ReFill are the best guitar tones I ever got out of software. I prefer them over using tube amps.
The front panel of the included Combinator patches are programmed in such a way you can quickly make changes, by altering the amount of overdrive, or switching additional effects on or off (like chorus, phaser, reverb, tremolo and echo), or even do complicated multiple parameter changes using one single button or pot.
The Boutique Amp ReFill is available for purchase for the introductory price of $5 USD until January 31st, 2015 (regular $6 USD). Use coupon code rock-out at checkout to take advantage of this offer.

Softube has introduced the Mutronics Mutator, a stereo analog filter and an envelope follower which can be used to create mind boggling filter effects on any sound source.
Mutronics Mutator was an instant success when it came out in the early 1990’s, and had an enormous impact of the sound from that decade. The Mutator can clearly be heard on records by artists such as Radiohead, Beck, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack and many more.
But the Mutator was short lived. Production ceased abruptly when a vital component was discontinued by the component manufacturer. The original has since then only been available at auction sites, often at prices much higher than the original purchase price. Softube has worked closely with Mutronics to ensure that the plug-in captures every delicate detail of the original hardware.
Mutronics Mutator features
- Mind boggling filter effects.
- Control filter sweeps by the sound source’s amplitude, from the LFOs or from an external sound source.
- Used on many seminal records from the 1990s.
- Based on technology developed for analog synthesis from the 1960s.
- Each and every component carefully modeled.
- Extremely analog behavior of frequencies, phase, distortion, etc.
Mutator for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX) is available for purchase for $219 USD.
