Related: , , , , Posted in news on Jul 16, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Solid State Logic has announced that its SSL OffLine Setup Application for the SSL Live console is now available for free download.

Solid State Logic Offline Software
The SSL OffLine Setup Application, or SOLSA, allows creation and editing of Live console Showfiles on a laptop or desktop PC.

Almost anything that can be done on a Live console can now be manipulated and configured ‘offline’ when access to a console is not possible.

Software functionality includes console architecture configuration and setup of Fader Tile Layers and Banks. Stageboxes and I/O routing can be assigned along with the creation of scenes and other automation editing. SOLSA also allows you to add effects, manipulate channel processing settings, bus routing and VCA assignments. SOLSA includes the same Help System as the Live console software, offering a built-in user guide with tutorials and reference sections.

SOLSA is intended to enable engineers to configure Showfiles in preparation for shows but it is a fantastic way for anybody to explore and learn about the SSL Live console.

The software is a free download for Windows.

Solid State Logic releases X-Saturator, X-ValveComp & X-Phase + iLok 2

Solid State Logic has announced that three new Duende Native plug-ins and migration to iLok 2 copy protection are now available online.

SSL Duende Native

The superior audio quality and deep feature set of the SSL Duende Native plug-in range has earned the respect of a very discerning clientele through the years.

The three new plug-ins complement the existing range with two plug-ins (X-Saturator & X-ValveComp) designed to bring some analogue saturation and distortion emulation to your digital DAW and the third (X-Phase) delivering high precision frequency specific phase correction.

The new plug-ins are available now via the SSL web site. To coincide with the new plug-in release SSL has migrated the entire Duende Native plug-in collection to the iLok 2 copy protection system. SSL has also announced a summer release for AAX native versions of the entire suite.

New Duende plug-ins

  • X-Phase is an All-pass Filter plug-in that offers the user manual control and benchmark audio quality. It enables the user to apply a phase shift (sometimes called a phase offset) at a specified frequency within a signal. Unlike other filter types where the gain of selected frequencies is altered, with an All-pass Filter the gain remains unchanged throughout the signal. This is useful for fixing phase problems with microphones when recording: eg overheads causing phase problems when mixed with close mic’s.
  • X-Saturator delivers a stunning range of analogue style distortion effects. It is an emulation of an analogue circuit that introduces either 2nd order valve style or 3rd order transistor style distortion or a blend of the two. At low drive settings the distortion is mild and can add gentle warming to help instruments sit nicely in a mix or to add a little extra edge to help instruments cut through a mix. As drive levels are increased so too is the level of distortion until at high drive levels heavy distortion occurs.
  • X-ValveComp is a fully-featured mono or stereo channel compressor with a full set of classic channel compressor controls and an added ‘valve’ emulation stage. The valve emulation stage sits after the compressor in the signal path and adds a variable degree of primarily 2nd order harmonic saturation and distortion that thickens and colours the sound. The compressor can be switched between Peak or RMS modes and has a full set of standard controls.

X-Phase is available for purchase for £199 GBP/249 EUR/$329 USD. X-Saturator and X-ValveComp are £69 GBP/89 EUR/$119 USD each, with an introductory price of £49 GBP/59 EUR/$85 USD for the first 30 days only. Prices exclude tax.

Solid State Logic has announce a trio of major new developments for their acclaimed Duende Native range of plug-ins at the 2014 ProLight & Sound Show (Hall 8. Stand L80).

The new plug-ins are due for public release by May 1st 2014. To coincide with the new plug-in release SSL has announced migration of the entire Duende Native plug-in collection to the iLok copy protection system. SSL has also announced a summer release for AAX versions of the entire suite.

“We’re excited to bring these new tools to the Duende family. Like the others in the Duende range the new plug-ins are a mix of easy-to-use sound sweeteners and technical problem-solvers.” says Jim Motely, Head Of Business for Workstation Partner Products at SSL. “By responding to our customer’s requests to move to what many see as the industry-standard copy protection system we hope to ensure that using Duende plug-ins is as simple an experience as possible”.

The plug-ins will be available from May, 2014. Release of versions of the entire Duende Native plug-in suite which are compatible with Avid AAX format and thus ProTools 11 are due for release in Q3 2014. The AAX versions will be free to all existing iLok based Duende Native plug-in owners.

Solid State Logic’s Sigma is a remote controlled analogue mix engine.

Designed for the DAW user that seeks the legendary big sound of an SSL console while retaining the convenience of working in the box, Sigma is a unique analogue mix engine in a 2U rack unit, that is remote controlled using MIDI via Ethernet using a DAW or an iDevice compatible software interface.

SSL Sigma

Using proprietary MDAC control technology first featured in our Duality and AWS studio consoles, Sigma’s 100% analogue summing engine can be driven by automation data created within your DAW of choice. Sigma features 16 flexible input channels which can be individually switched between being mono or stereo for up to 32 channels at mixdown. There is accurate front panel LED metering for all channels. There are two stereo mix busses with dedicated outputs for convenient printing of stems back to the DAW and individual stereo insert points to facilitate implementation of parallel compression. Each input channel also features an individual direct output. Mix Bus B can also be injected into Mix Bus A for final mixdown.

Solid State Logic launches E-Series EQ & Dynamics modules for 500 series racks

Solid State Logic has announced the release of the E-Series EQ Module and E-Series Dynamics Module for the popular API 500 Series modular rack format.

The legendary 1980’s SSL SL 4000 E is one of the all-time classic consoles and has been featured on countless great recordings. The release of these new E-Series EQ and E-Series Dynamics Modules makes the gritty tonal character of the channel processing from this much-loved console available to a new group of users.

The SSL console sound has been available in 12 different modules for SSL’s own modular X-Rack system for many years. The system enjoys a large and enthusiastic customer base (more than 15,000 modules sold) that reap the benefits of the very high-quality power supply and on board TotalRecall™ offered by SSL‘s X-Rack. The release of two modules for the widely-used 500 Series modular rack platform makes a small slice of the SSL sound available to a wider user base. The new modules will be shown at the forthcoming 2012 AES Show in San Francisco (Booth 1005)

SSL 611DYN / 611EQ
The new E-Series Dynamics and EQ modules for API’s 500 series.

The E-Series Dynamics Module for 500 Series racks reproduces the legendary sonic signature of the fully-flavored VCA channel dynamics section of the SL 4000 E console channel strip.

The E-Series Dynamics Module features a compressor/limiter and an expander/gate, both of which return faithfully to the circuitry and key components that define the sound of the original SL 611 E Series channel strip. A true RMS converter is used in the side chain while the gain element is an all-discrete design identical to the Class A VCA chip used in the original unit.

The compressor contains additional switching options that allow a user to defeat the over-easy curve and to use a linear release instead of the more usual logarithmic curve. The result is a compressor with three distinct voices, each with its own musical character.

The E-Series EQ Module for 500 Series racks features two different EQ’s found on editions of the console produced between 1979 and 1987. Each EQ has unique response curves and tonal character.

Historically, the type of EQ fitted in an individual console was distinguished by the colors used on the LF knob caps so the two flavors have become known as the ‘Brown’ and ‘Black’ EQ’s. On the E-Series EQ Module, you can switch between these two different flavors of EQ that have been loved by generations of professional producers.

The SSL channel EQ is the classic four band design with fully parametric LMF and HMF with Q controls, which has become the industry standard channel EQ configuration. The E-Series EQ features selectable shelving or Bell curve operation for the LF and HF frequencies.

E-Series EQ & Dynamics features

  • Immortal SSL SL 4000 E Series circuitry.
  • Based on original SL 611 E console channel strip.
  • Dynamics
    • Class A VCA replication.
    • Classic Expander/Gate configuration.
  • EQ
    • “Black-242” and “Brown-02” twin EQ design.
    • Versatile four band channel EQ.
    • Bell curve option on HF and LF.
    • Fully parametric LMF and HMF with Q.

Both modules are available now from SSL Resellers worldwide, priced at £518 GBP/$889 USD/646 EUR + VAT or Sales Tax.
