Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on Mar 13, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Avid has announced continued momentum in the live sound market with an expanded AAX live sound plug-in platform for the Avid S3L system.

Avid S3L
Avid S3L users can now choose from a wide range of plug-ins from Avid as well as some of the world’s most respected developers including Crane Song, McDSP, and Sonnox.

To meet the growing demand for more powerful, flexible processing, Avid S3L drives AAX plug-ins directly on an HDX-powered processing engine. It delivers the tightest integration and lowest latency of any live plug-in system, without the expense and complexity of outboard solutions. By supporting industry-standard Pro Tools® plug-ins, Avid live systems enable engineers to select the best plug-ins to suit their needs.

“With its unique capabilities and growing plug-in platform, Avid S3L is quickly becoming the console of choice for users requiring a compact, no-compromise system that can meet the toughest challenges,” said Sheldon Radford, director of product management, live systems and consoles at Avid. “Avid S3L gives live sound professionals the greatest flexibility to choose the right plug-in for the job. The plug-ins appear within the VENUE software and are fully integrated within the session file and snapshots. This provides the best possible user experience without the need for additional hardware or management.”

“Partnering with Avid helps ensure that we stay at the forefront of industry innovation when it comes to delivering high-performance plug-ins for the live sound industry,” said Colin McDowell, CEO/CTO at McDSP. “Together, AAX and VENUE offer live sound professionals the perfect integrated processing solution, so we’re delighted to be able to bring our range of plug-ins, including our 6030 Ultimate Compressor, to the Avid S3L system.”

The release of the free VENUE 4.1.3 software update provides support for the latest qualified plug-ins, with Avid continually qualifying additional AAX live sound plug-ins. As part of the update, current and new S3L customers can also download additional free AAX plug-ins for their system through their Avid customer account.

Avid S3L will be on show in the Avid stand G40A in Hall 8.0 at Musikmesse / Prolight + Sound, from 12-15 March 2014.

Sonnox releases Codec Toolbox encoder software

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Oct 01, 2013 - comment 0 comments

Sonnox has announced the release of the Codec Toolbox, a solution for encoding your music for the web.

Sonnox Codec Toolbox
Audition codecs in real-time, batch encode multiple files and add metadata such as track name and artwork.

Codec Toolbox is the result of a partnership with Fraunhofer, who originally created the mp3 and AAC formats that the majority of people listen to today online or on their iPod / mp3 player. Over many years Fraunhofer have perfected these codecs and they are presented to you in the Codec Toolbox to ensure your music sounds as good online as it does in the studio.

Codec Toolbox consists of two applications – the Toolbox Plug-In, for auditioning your mix in real-time through various codecs, and the Toolbox Manager for encoding and adding metadata.

Codec Toolbox features

  • Audition codecs in real-time (a huge time saver – no need to encode first then listen!).
  • Multiple high quality codecs, including mp3, AAC and iTunes+.
  • Batch encode multiple files to save time.
  • ‘Clip Safe’ auto-compensates for any overs, keeping your mix clean.
  • Add metadata like track names and artwork.
  • Decode mp3 or AAC files to WAV or AIF.

Codec Toolbox is available to purchase for £35 GBP (excluding sales tax).

Universal Audio ships Apollo 16 audio interface

Universal Audio has announced it is shipping the Apollo 16 Audio Interface and new UAD Software v.7.0, which provides multi-unit cascading, Virtual I/O, and other enhancements to both the Apollo 16 and Apollo audio interfaces.

UAD Apollo 16
Universal Audio’s Apollo 16 audio interface provides 16 x 16 analog I/O with world-class sound and realtime UAD processing.

Apollo 16 is Universal Audio’s flagship 24-bit/192 kHz audio interface, delivering world-class conversion with 16 x 16 analog I/O. This uncompromising FireWire/Thunderbolt-ready* interface combines superior sound and flexible routing with powerful onboard UAD-2 QUAD processing. So you can track audio in real time through the full range of classic UAD analog emulation plug-ins — from Neve, Studer, Manley, Lexicon and more — on both Mac and Windows 7.*

Building upon decades of UA hardware expertise, Apollo 16 features meticulous analog circuit design, top-end converters, and DC-coupled outputs — providing the lowest THD and highest dynamic range of any converter in its class. Two Apollo 16 units can be cascaded over MADI for an expanded system with eight UAD processors and 32 x 32 simultaneous analog I/O, capable of handling large professional mixes.

Apollo 16 also offers compatibility with Intel’s high-bandwidth Thunderbolt technology on Macs via a user-installable dual-port Thunderbolt Option Card (sold separately). Thunderbolt provides greater UAD plug-in instances, improved performance at high sample rates, and reduced UAD plug-in latency in the DAW versus Apollo’s standard FireWire connection.

Apollo 16 is available for an estimated street price of $2,999 USD. Apollo’s Thunderbolt Option Card is also now available for an estimated street price of $499 USD.

Universal Audio’s new UAD Software features enhancements for Apollo and Apollo 16.

Universal Audio’s latest UAD Software v7.0 provides significant enhancements to Apollo’s workflow and expandability and adds the new Ocean Way Studios, SPL TwinTube, and Sonnox Inflator plug-ins to the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform. Among these enhancements is multi-unit cascading, which allows for combining two Apollo 16 interfaces (for 32 x 32 analog I/O) or two Apollo interfaces (for 16 x 16 analog I/O, with eight Apollo mic preamps) into a single elegant system via FireWire or Thunderbolt.

The boost in Apollo connectivity is navigated via a redesigned Console application, offering better visual feedback, a new PT Mode which simplifies outboard hardware integration with Pro Tools, and a new Virtual I/O feature that allows for Realtime UAD Processing of DAW tracks and virtual instruments.
