Audio Genetics Lab releases Jailcell Slammer: Impacts and Hits from Alcatraz Prison

Audio Genetics Lab Jailhouse Slammer

Audio Genetics Lab has announced the release of Jailcell Slammer, a collection of ready-to-use one-hit impacts and effects created from recordings of the actual jail cell doors of Alcatraz prison.

While our field recordist was taking a public tour of the famous San Francisco prison, a special presentation was given on the sound of the cell doors. A long set of cells was closed simultaneously by a single operator at the end of the row, filling the historic space with a thunderous metal punch.

These huge metallic impacts were the starting point, and we at the lab took those recordings and created a set of hits, ramps, and sub-booms that are sure to cause a riot.

The simple user interface offers optional distortion and reverb (with a custom collection of 13 synthesized reverb impulses), and controls for velocity sensitivity of volume and/or filter.

The library includes a single patch with all the processed hits, ramps, and booms, as well as a collection of designed patches for out-of-the-box textures, tremors, and madness. Individual impact types (Subs, Big Hits, Ramps) have their own patches, allowing those samples to be spread out along the keyboard for more pitch control.

As always with Audio Genetics Lab libraries, all of the samples are accessible for your own mangling and modification outside of Kontakt. Drop them straight into your project or load them into your favorite soundmasher.

Jailcell Slammer for Kontakt is available for purchase for the introductory price of $9 USD (regular $15 USD). Requires full version of Kontakt 4.2.4 or higher.

99Sounds releases The Warehouse free SFX pack

99Sounds has launched The Warehouse, a free collection of 116 sound effects and organic percussion sounds created by Richard Gould.

99Sounds The Warehouse

The Warehouse is a sample instrument containing a range of SFX elements recorded in a military storage facility in the United Kingdom. It includes wooden, metallic and glass elements. Many of the sounds were captured within the natural ambience of the facility. The sounds can easily be used as percussion elements as well as straight sound effects.

Creaking doors, rattling chains, spooky metallic echoes and glass scraping sounds are the sort of stuff you’ll find in The Warehouse. These samples can be used as scary sound effects, however most of them will also work very well as organic percussive sounds for layering on top of drum loops. My favorite part of the library are the samples of an electric lift, which almost beg to be used as foley robot sounds in a Transformers style movie.

The sample pack is available as a free download.

Time+Space introduces Impact Designer by Zero-G

Time+Space has announced Impact Designer, a virtual instrument library that allows you to create your own epic SFX.

Zero-G Impact Designer

Zero-G have once again joined forces with Dan Graham (Animato, Spiritoso, Luminso, Perpetuo) to release ‘Impact Designer’.

Create your own unique hits, bangs, epic slams, booms, whacks and more with this brand new collection for Kontakt which, thanks to a high level of customisation options, gives you over 15 million possible variations!

Under the hood there are 3 dynamic velocity layers and 3 round robins for each sound so it all stays nicely organic-sounding without a machine-gun effect of repeat sample-triggering.

Every Impact is made up of 3 elements – HIT, BOOM and DECAY. Respectively, these 3 elements are the attack, the body of the hit and the long release. The Impact Designer instrument quickly crossfades between the 3 different sounds in order to produce sonic complexity and a very wide range of possible variations. There is also a Pre-Hit function which is a reverse sound that can give your Impact an impressive thwack.
Of course, there are times when you simply need epic sounds in an instant, so why not take your pick from the collection of 90 presets – some of which were created by The Unfinished’s Matt Bowdler.

The library is available for the introductory price of £54.95 GBP until Friday 11th June (regular £69.95 GBP).
