PreSonus has announced it is shipping its new Temblor T10 subwoofer.

Designed to complement full-range studio reference monitors-including the PreSonus Eris™ and Sceptre™-without overshadowing them, the T10 is intended for serious personal studios and professional music-production environments, offering a tight low end due to fast and accurate transient response and providing user controls not normally available in this price range.

PreSonus Temblor T10

The T10 features a 10-inch glass-composite woofer, driven by 250 watts of Class AB power; a front-firing, bass-reflex acoustic port; optimized, resonance-suppressing internal bracing; and internal damping and heat sink. Frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 130 Hz.

The new subwoofer sports left and right, balanced XLR and ¼” TRS and unbalanced RCA main inputs; if both XLR and TRS inputs are connected, the TRS input takes precedence. The T10 has left and right balanced XLR and ¼” TRS outputs and an extra subwoofer output for connecting a second T10.

Extensive user controls include input gain (-30 dB to +6 dB, continuously variable) and a continuously variable lowpass filter (50 Hz to 130 Hz) that allows users to create a seamless crossover transition between their full-range studio monitors and subwoofer for a more accurate listening environment. A switchable highpass filter removes frequency content below 80 Hz from the full-range signal sent from the T10 outputs to the main monitors, avoiding destructive cancellation and reinforcement in the T10′s upper range.

The T10 also features a momentary footswitch (included) that bypasses the subwoofer, highpass filter, and Sub Out. This allows the audio source signal to pass directly through the Temblor T10 to the full-range studio monitors, enabling you to compare your mix with and without subharmonic frequencies to ensure your mix will sound good on a wide variety of systems.

You also get polarity invert and a ground-lift switch. The 15.75″ x 15.75″ x 12.6″ (400 x 400 x 320 mm), 39.5 lb. (17.9 kg) enclosure has integrated, gravity-calibrated rubber feet for stable placement.

The Temblor T10 is available to purchase for $399.95 USD (MAP/street price).

Roland announces marketing partnership with QSC

Roland / QSC

Roland Corporation and QSC Audio Products have announced a new marketing partnership promoting the concept of electronic and hybrid percussion as a whole and showcasing the pairing of V-Drums and K Series amplification as a total solution.

Roland V-Drums products are known worldwide as the foremost in electronic percussion, and QSC K Series monitors have become the gold standard in electronic percussion amplification. QSC has a long history of making high quality products, and K Series monitors are a perfect solution for amplifying the excellent dynamic response and sound set of Roland V-Drums.

Drummers have come to trust V-Drums for great playability, tactile dynamic response, silent mesh heads, supreme sound and editing capability, innovation, and industrial design. Creating the sounds of authentic acoustic drums, standard and exotic percussion instruments, as well as current and vintage electronic drums are all possible with V-Drums, giving the instruments a well-founded seat in today’s mainstream percussion domain. But in order for drummers to access the full capabilities of their V-Drums instruments, proper amplification is key. Extremely responsive electronic drums need a very unique kind of stage amplification that is accurate, has wide bandwidth, and is capable of keeping up with guitar amps and other amplified instruments.

“Musicians have recognized that K Series speakers are a great choice for electronic instrument amplification. With that in mind, we’re delighted to be working with Roland to spread the word about how well K Series and V-Drums go together,” said QSC Vice President of Marketing Gerry Tschetter.

QSC products are known for their innovation, value, and performance in the marketplace, and QSC’s K Series family of loudspeakers offers studio-quality reinforcement for V-Drums. V-Drums have a musical dynamic response that standard amplification cannot replicate. The amplification system needs dynamic headroom to accommodate transients, a frequency response to accurately render the high frequencies of a cymbal, and the power to produce a satisfying kick drum, all coming from V-Drums. This is also true when utilizing a hybrid kit consisting of acoustic drums and Roland percussion instruments. K Series amplifier systems are more than capable of playing at volumes that can not only drive the rhythm of the music with authority but also maintain a consistent Roland sound all across the listening area and throughout the full frequency spectrum.

“Roland is very happy to be working closely with QSC to give drummers exactly what they need to offer up their best performances. The combination of a Roland V-Drums percussion system and a QSC K Series instrument amplifier are made for each other and are one of the recommended amplification systems by Roland,” said Roland Corporation U.S. Vice President Paul Youngblood.

Dynaudio BM15A

ILIO has announced that Dynaudio Professional will provide five pairs of its BM15A studio monitors for demonstration at this year’s Winter NAMM show. The speakers will be seen and heard at the ILIO booth, Hall A, #6724 throughout the show.

ILIO president Mark Hiskey comments, “The Dynaudio BM15As are outstanding speakers with tremendous clarity and punch. They’ll provide the ideal combination of power and fidelity that will put our virtual instruments and audio processing products in the best possible light at the show.”

First introduced in 1998, the BM15A is a high performance speaker whose full-range extended bass response makes it an ideal nearfield monitor, particularly for commercial studios, project studios and post-production facilities.

The BM15A is a relatively large 2-way active system comprised of a large 240mm (10″) woofer, a special version of the Dynaudio ESOTEC soft dome tweeter and an electronic phase-aligned crossover, which feeds the built-in dual, high performance discrete MOSFET amplifiers.

The ESOTEC HF driver provides quality and headroom due to a dynamic headroom of 1000W. The 240mm (10″) bass driver is well-known for its 100mm (4″) aluminum alloy voice coil, which outperforms many 300mm (12″) drivers in terms of power output and punch.

The electronics offer complex protection circuitry helping to prevent accidental damage to the drivers, while still providing maximum transient response.

The BM15A monitor is front-ported for powerful and extended low frequency response, and the elegant matte cabinet has radius edges on the front baffle to reduce boundary effects and improve the overall sound quality.

PreSonus StudioLive AI-series

PreSonus has announced it is shipping its new StudioLive AI-series Active Integration Loudspeakers, the first active loudspeakers that deliver studio-monitor accuracy onstage.

The new line includes the full-range StudioLive 312AI, 315AI, and 328AI and the StudioLive 18sAI subwoofer.

A key component of the StudioLive AI’s design is its use of Active Integration technology. Active Integration combines wireless and wired networking and communications with powerful DSP to create a unified working environment.

StudioLive AI-series speakers incorporate Fulcrum Acoustics’ TQ™ Temporal Equalization algorithms. Taking advantage of Active Integration’s ample DSP, TQ employs multiple, fully addressable Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters to eliminate horn reflections and to correct linear time and amplitude anomalies in coaxial systems. Collaborating with Fulcrum Acoustics’ co-founder, Dave Gunness, PreSonus software designers incorporated custom TQ algorithms with dynamics processing, FFT tools, and performance monitoring into the onboard DSP. The result is a PA system with remarkably clear, coherent, studio-quality sound.

Each full-range, powered, 3-way loudspeaker relies on a custom-designed, CoActual™ 8-inch coaxial speaker with a 1.75-inch titanium compression driver to reproduce the mid and high frequencies. Triamplified, Class D power amplifiers in each model deliver a combined 2,000 watts of power.

The loudspeakers are available to purchase for MAP/street price of $1,399.95 USD (312AI) / $1,499.95 USD (328AI) / $1,599.95 USD (315AI) / $1,299.95 (18sAI). All models are available immediately.

Alto Professional launches Black Series wireless mobile speakers

Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on Dec 11, 2013 - comment 0 comments

Alto Professional has announced the availability of its Black Series line of top-level loudspeakers and subwoofers with wireless capability and inbuilt power.

Alto Professional Black Series

Alto Professional’s all-new active Black Series collectively comprises three two-way loudspeaker models — namely, the Black 10, Black 12, and Black 15 (which, as implied by name, feature 10-, 12-, and 15-inch low-frequency drivers, respectively, alongside a 1.75-inch high-frequency driver, and are optimised with a 90° x 60° coverage field and an extensively tested high-frequency waveguide) — and two subwoofers — namely, the appropriately-named Black 15 Sub and Black 18 Sub (with 15-, and 18-inch low-frequency, long-excursion drivers, respectively).

All are designed and tuned to exacting standards in the USA with premium, purpose-matched components, and come complete with wireless technology. To be sure, all are remote-controllable via the Live Drive speaker app for iPhone and iPad, available for free from the App Store in December — level-match, adjust EQ, time-align, and more from anywhere in a room to nimbly adapt the speakers to suit new venues or performances! Pronounces Alto Professional Director of Engineering Bernard Werner: “Wireless control is incredibly useful, especially when the speakers are suspended or hard to get to. The Live Drive functionality lets you leave the normal mix position to tweak and fine-tune speaker settings via DSP so your system sounds perfect.”

Perfecting that system sound is helpfully boosted by the impressive inbuilt 2,400W peak (1,200W continuous) Class D power provided by each member of the Black Series family. For Jay Schlabs, Executive Director of Sales at Alto Professional, it’s a no- brainer. “We’ll put the Black Series up against any other speaker — and we have,” he touts. “The results in our live shootouts, every time, are unanimous. These speakers perform at an unrivalled level. People are blown away.”

The Black Series speakers are now available from Alto Professional dealers, priced at MSRP (including 20% VAT):

  • Black 10 – 799.99 EUR/£669.99 GBP
  • Black 12 – 899.99 EUR/£749.99 GBP
  • Black 15 – 999.99 EUR/£849.99 GBP
  • Black 15 Sub – 1,099.99 EUR/£919.99 GBP
