Alto Professional launches Black Series wireless mobile speakers

Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on Dec 11, 2013 - comment 0 comments

Alto Professional has announced the availability of its Black Series line of top-level loudspeakers and subwoofers with wireless capability and inbuilt power.

Alto Professional Black Series

Alto Professional’s all-new active Black Series collectively comprises three two-way loudspeaker models — namely, the Black 10, Black 12, and Black 15 (which, as implied by name, feature 10-, 12-, and 15-inch low-frequency drivers, respectively, alongside a 1.75-inch high-frequency driver, and are optimised with a 90° x 60° coverage field and an extensively tested high-frequency waveguide) — and two subwoofers — namely, the appropriately-named Black 15 Sub and Black 18 Sub (with 15-, and 18-inch low-frequency, long-excursion drivers, respectively).

All are designed and tuned to exacting standards in the USA with premium, purpose-matched components, and come complete with wireless technology. To be sure, all are remote-controllable via the Live Drive speaker app for iPhone and iPad, available for free from the App Store in December — level-match, adjust EQ, time-align, and more from anywhere in a room to nimbly adapt the speakers to suit new venues or performances! Pronounces Alto Professional Director of Engineering Bernard Werner: “Wireless control is incredibly useful, especially when the speakers are suspended or hard to get to. The Live Drive functionality lets you leave the normal mix position to tweak and fine-tune speaker settings via DSP so your system sounds perfect.”

Perfecting that system sound is helpfully boosted by the impressive inbuilt 2,400W peak (1,200W continuous) Class D power provided by each member of the Black Series family. For Jay Schlabs, Executive Director of Sales at Alto Professional, it’s a no- brainer. “We’ll put the Black Series up against any other speaker — and we have,” he touts. “The results in our live shootouts, every time, are unanimous. These speakers perform at an unrivalled level. People are blown away.”

The Black Series speakers are now available from Alto Professional dealers, priced at MSRP (including 20% VAT):

  • Black 10 – 799.99 EUR/£669.99 GBP
  • Black 12 – 899.99 EUR/£749.99 GBP
  • Black 15 – 999.99 EUR/£849.99 GBP
  • Black 15 Sub – 1,099.99 EUR/£919.99 GBP
  • Black 18 Sub – 1,299.99 EUR/£1,089.99 GBP

Dynaudio Professional intros Choosing by Ear – Practical Loudspeaker and Monitor Systems Evaluation

Chosen by Ear

Dynaudio Professional has announced the release of Choosing by Ear – Practical Loudspeaker and Monitor Systems Evaluation, a paper by Paul Mac, which provides a practical guide to monitor selection by ear.

Choosing the right monitors can be a challenge in any scenario. To choose well from many candidate monitors for their multiple stereo and 5.1 monitor setups, recording studios and broadcast production facilities often conduct blindfold listening tests. They do this to make the best possible decision based entirely on pure audio considerations.

“Monitors must be the most overhyped and least understood part of the audio chain,” says Fred Speckeen, Global Business Manager, Dynaudio Professional. “Paul Mac brings together his own extensive experience and the seminal AES20 standard to this paper, providing a practical approach to selecting monitors via critical listening. Inspired by the fact that monitor selection by systematic blindfold tests is increasingly common at the highest levels of the pro audio industry, this paper covers the issues of listening environment, listening material and the listening process. Buying monitors is one of the most critical and expensive decisions each of us has to make in assembling a studio that’s a joy to work in. We hope that this paper contributes to making that process a success for everyone.”

The paper is available as a free download along with accompanying audio files for stereo and multichannel system configuration.

KRK intros ROKIT G3 studio monitor speakers

KRK ROKIT Generation 3

KRK Systems has announced the ROKIT Generation 3 studio monitors.

Available in five-inch, six-inch and eight-inch options, this new line of two-way active monitors features multiple innovative upgrades that elevate KRK’s already legendary performance.

“This latest generation is a natural evolution of the company’s design philosophy: deliver natural, balanced spectral response, with low distortion and superior imaging,” says Gus Jursch, Director of Operations for Gibson Pro Audio. “We designed the ROKIT G3 line not just to the highest sonic standards, but to achieve a level of versatility that allows all users take their mixes to the next level, regardless of musical context. High and low frequency amplifier adjustments allow tailoring the monitor to taste, as well as provide a better ‘fit’ to individual room acoustics; the extended, accurate high and low frequency response results in mixes that translate over a wide variety of playback systems. What’s more, the new line maintains the ROKIT reputation as being ideal for a wide range of users, from those starting out in desktop recording to pro-level mixing and mastering engineers.”

As with all KRK monitors, the ROKIT G3 features a lightweight yellow composite woofer that achieves outstanding dynamics. Many monitor manufacturers compromise the midrange frequencies to hype the bass, but the KRK ROKIT G3’s unique tuning process that treats the woofer, cabinet and port as a single, integrated whole provides extreme vocal clarity with extended bass response. Additionally, an ingenious, re-designed radius cabinet baffle minimizes diffraction.

The ROKITs’ reliable, analog, bi-amped, class A/B amplifier has also been enhanced to maximize headroom while retaining minimal distortion. Unlike monitors that distort at higher SPLs, KRK monitors are engineered to deliver clean, accurate sound at any volume level—the high frequencies are crisp, clean and devoid of harshness, which complements the precision midrange and accurate, yet highly satisfying, bass.

Each monitor in the ROKIT G3 line features an upgraded one-inch silk-dome tweeter that provides response up to 35kHz, coupled with KRK’s optimized, proprietary waveguide technology for superior stereo imaging.

Introduced in 2003, KRK’s ROKIT Two-Way Active Studio Monitors have been the professional monitoring choice for mixing and mastering hit records around the globe, selling more than one million systems to date. The third-generation ROKIT 5, ROKIT 6 and ROKIT 8 continue that tradition of quality, innovation, and accuracy.

The ROKIT G3 line is shipping worldwide on September 1st, 2013.

New Audio Technology releases Spatial Sound Card

Spatial Sound Card

New Audio Technology has announced the release of Spatial Sound Card (SSC), a set of virtual speakers for stereo and surround monitoring for the computer with standard headphones.

The Spatial Sound Card is a virtual sound card that is inserted between software, operating system and audio hardware and enables monitoring of stereo and surround up to 7.1 with a standard headphone on the computer. The room visualizations originate from a constantly growing number of high end studios and dub stages like the ARRI Stage One, MSM Munich and others. The technology used in the SSC was used on major Blu-Ray releases (e.g. The Expendables I and II).

To optimize the virtualization the SSC provides parameters to customize the frequency curve of the used headphones. Presets for well-known headphone models are included.

The Spatial Sound Card works with all applications that support multichannel audio output. These include media players like VLC and FLAC-Player as well as video and audio workstations. The SSC is recommended for media professionals from the audio, video or games area as well as for agencies and companies with workstations that need high quality audio monitoring.

The Spatial Sound Card is available to purchase for the introductory price of 98 EUR until August 15th, 2013 (regular 169 EUR). For now the Spatial Sound Card runs on MacOS 10.6.x and above, a version for Windows will come within Q3, 2013.
