Sound Magic bundles Neo Dynamic and Neo Loudness in Dynamic Bundle

Sound Magic has announced the release of the Dynamic Bundle, a collection of two Neo effect plug-ins for dynamic processing.

Dynamic Bundle currently includes Neo Dynamic and Neo Loudness, which features Compressors, Limiters and Maximizers.

Sound Magic Neo Dynamic

Neo Dynamic is a new concept in dynamic processing technology. Different from ordinary compressors/limiters, Neo Dynamic not only offers more sonic variety than traditional units, it is far easier to use. Neo Dynamic is based on Sound Magic Award Winning Modeling Technology. This makes Neo Dynamic more like a sampler than typical compressors and limiters. It embodies several algorithms (such as sample sets) that make this plug-in easy to expand and extend with new compressors/limiters models in the future. Neo Dynamic starts with 10 compressors/limiters, modelled after famous brand names such as SSL, TubeTech and so on. Each of these has their own famous “flavors” ready to use.

Neo Loudness is a comprehensive tool designed to control loudness. Neo Loudness not only includes traditional compressors and limiters, but it also features a new type of Maximizer.

For years, producers have wanted their music to be louder and louder. So the brickwall limiter became the main weapon for getting to that maximum volume. However, there is always a price to pay when pushing to the extreme. The music would tend to lose its “breath” and sound too “tight”. Sound Magic has spent years designing a solution for this issue and has developed a new algorithm that can make the sound as loud as a brickwall limiter (even achieving within -5dB Average RMS), without destroying the original natural sounds. Neo Loudness keeps the “breath” of the original music.

The Sound Magic Neo Loudness Algorithm is based on psychological acoustics, the science that shows how human ears are less sensitive to loudness when it reaches certain ranges. Neo Loudness uses this area to compress the audio signal. When using traditional limiters – and under heavy limiting – music will sound very tight and breathless. The main instruments will sound like they are being pushed way forward. With Neo Loudness, the overall result is a more natural sound while the imaging of the instruments is hardly changed.

The Dynamic Bundle (Windows VST/Supreme Piano 2 add-on) is available to purchase for 99 EUR. An upgrade from one of the plug-ins to the bundle costs 30 EUR.

Solid State Logic has announced the release of Soundscape V6.2 at MusikMesse 2012.

SSL SoundScape V6

This new version of SSL’s industrial strength DAW introduces significant new features which will benefit the existing Soundscape user community and facilitate a series of ‘workflow specific’ products based on Soundscape’s highly evolved audio workflow and file management. Soundscape V6.2 actually combines two of SSL’s software products with the integration of Pro-Convert, SSL’s DAW Project translation tool. The Soundscape V6.2 Pro-Convert installation offers direct import/export to a series of third party DAW’s from the Soundscape File Menu. V6.2 imports/exports audio file and selected audio track, clip and marker data for Pro Tools 9 Sessions, Cubase/Nuendo Track-Archives, Final Cut XML and Samplitude/Sequoia EDL projects.

A new Console Control Module introduces a hardware control implementation that offers elegant physical control over the software using SSL’s Nucleus and Matrix hybrid DAW control consoles. The new hardware control implementation delivers deep integration between SSL’s multi award winning hardware control surfaces and Soundscape’s advanced audio production workflow. The Soundscape V6.2 release also enables Soundscape to be used with SSL’s MadiXtreme 64/128 PCIe audio interfaces for the first time facilitating direct connection to audio converters, MADI equipped consoles and routing systems for lower cost system specification where systems don’t require a software mixer environment. Soundscape V6.2 can still be purchased with an SSL MX4 interface if a DSP driven mixer and plug-in environment is still required. MX4 systems include the SSL Bus Compressor and EQ & Dynamics plug-ins as standard.

Rik Simpson installs SSL Matrix mixing console in Coldplay’s Beehive Studio

Solid State Logic has announced that Rik Simpson has installed a Matrix mixing console with inbuilt signal router and multi-layer digital workstation control in Coldplay’s Beehive studio in North London.

Rik Simpson at Beehive Studio

Rik Simpson, Coldplay’s producer, invites us to the band’s North London studio to talk about how he records them, and about his long history with SSL, from working with the G Series as a fifteen-year-old to using the Matrix today.

Coldplay set up the Beehive in 2010, and Chris Martin asked Rik to be involved in the design and build of the new studio. The band recorded the majority of the Viva la Vida at the Beehive with Rik as engineer. Viva la Vida went on to win three Grammys and Rik went on to co-produce (as well as engineer) Coldplay’s fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, at the Beehive last year. He tried out the Matrix in the process – and kept it.

The six-minute video of Rik talking about how he records and mixes the ‘Best British Group’ (BRIT Awards 2012) is available here: www.solidstatelogic.com/music/matrix/video.asp

Solid State Logic introduces X-Rack Stereo Dynamics Module

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Jan 17, 2011 - comment 1 comment
SSL X-Rack Stereo Dynamics Module

Solid State Logic has introduced the new X-Rack Stereo Dynamics Module.

The new X-Rack Module delivers the same sonic signature as the channel strip processing of SSL’s large format Duality console and the mono X-Rack SuperAnalogue™ Dynamics Module in a stereo configuration. The module is intended for stereo tracking or stem mixing and further extends the availability of SSL’s sonic heritage to studios of all sizes.

“When we first conceived of the AWS 948, we completed work on a stereo dynamics module to match the stereo input capability of the new console,” says Niall Feldman, director of new products for Solid State Logic. “Beyond the AWS 948, however, was the need for a stereo dynamics unit to round out the module offerings for X-Rack. We believe the industry will find this new module extremely valuable over a wide range of recording and mix applications.”

The X-Rack Stereo Dynamics Module is a stereo version of the powerful SuperAnalogue™ Dynamics Module. Featuring Compressor/Limiter and Expander/Gate circuits, the Stereo Dynamics Module provides the familiar SSL level control tools for both recording and mixing applications.

The Compressor section can switch between a gentle Soft Knee (Over Easy) RMS compression to a more aggressive Peak Sensing or Hard Knee mode, providing a wide range of leveling control. The secondary circuit can function as either a Noise Gate or an Expander further enhancing the creative sound sculpting possibilities. The feature set is completed by an External Key Input (mono), for triggering the unit from an external sound source, and the ability for multiple adjacent units to be linked.

X-Rack Stereo Dynamics Module features

  • +4dBu Operating Level.
  • Balanced Stereo Line 1/4″ Jack Input and Output.
  • RMS or Peak Sense Stereo Compressor/Limiter.
  • Dedicated Gain Reduction Metering.
  • Independently switched Gate/Expander.
  • External Key Input 1/4″ Jack.
  • Link function for multiple modules.

The Stereo Dynamics Module will be available from February 2011 priced at $1,159 USD / £699 GBP / 839.50 EUR.
