Steinberg releases dspMixFx app for iPad + UR series firmware v2.1

Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on May 07, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Steinberg has launched dspMixFx, an app that gives iPad access to DSP features of its UR824, UR28M and UR44, and released updated firmware/software for these audio interfaces.

Steinberg dspMixFx

dspMixFx allows users to control the many digital signal processing (DSP) features available on the UR824, UR28M and UR44 audio interfaces in order to create latency-free monitor mixes with the readily available DSP effects through the iPad.

“Most musicians have experienced a poor monitor mix at some time or another. And this results in a poor performance. With dspMixFx, simply hook up your iPad to the interface, set up the perfect mix and get the best out of each and every performer during the recording sessions,” says Stefan Schreiber, product marketing manager at Steinberg.

dspMixFx harnesses the power of Yamaha’s SSP2 DSP chip built into the UR interfaces, making the available DSP features easily accessible through the iPad. The iOS app provides a mixer for the input signals and controls the acclaimed REV-X reverb, the Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip with compressor and three-band parametric EQ as well as the four Guitar Amp Classics amp emulations at zero latency.

dspMixFx is compatible with other iOS audio apps, offering full operation when using third-party apps with the DSP-powered interfaces of Steinberg’s UR range.

The firmware/software update version 2.1 ensures full compatibility of the UR824, UR28M and UR44 with the dspMixFx app as well as providing automatic detection of the connected iPad or computer when in class compliant mode.

dspMixFx is a free app available through the App Store. The firmware and Tools software update version 2.1 is freely available as download from the Steinberg website.

Steinberg announces WaveLab 8.5 at Musikmesse

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Mar 12, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Steinberg has announced WaveLab 8.5, a purchasable point update for the award-winning audio editing and mastering software.

Steinberg WaveLab 8.5
Available from June, WaveLab 8.5 includes new and easy file conversion and batch processing, A/B comparison between encoding formats, AAC encoder implementation and convenient multi-format rendering.

“This update marks an important step forward for the eighth iteration of WaveLab, focusing this round on encoding and processing audio files in a most efficient way,” said Timo Wildenhain, product marketing manager at Steinberg.

The new automated Watch Folder rendering feature applies processing to all audio files drag-and-dropped into designated folders. Users can now assign tasks, such as dithering, normalization, plug-in rendering and audio file format conversion, to any number of Watch Folders without having WaveLab open. Putting a big emphasis on working with codecs, WaveLab 8.5 sports the new Encoder Checker plug-in for real-time comparison of codecs and settings, with an FFT graph allowing for a precise analysis of the compressed sound quality. WaveLab now also supports encoding to the AAC file format to ensure compatibility with iTunes and related Apple hardware. Introducing new multi-format rendering capabilities facilitates exporting files to various formats simultaneously, and with much more ease than in previous versions.

The WaveLab 8.5 full retail version will be available from June 2014 as boxed version from authorized Steinberg resellers and through the Steinberg Online Shop. The suggested retail price is 549 EUR, including German VAT.

The WaveLab 8.5 update from WaveLab 8 plus further updates and upgrades will also be available from June 2014 as download through the Steinberg Online Shop. The suggested retail price for the WaveLab 8.5 update from WaveLab 8 is 49.99 EUR, including German VAT.
