Roland introduces V-Guitar Twin Pedals

Roland has announced the GR-D V-Guitar Distortion and GR-S V-Guitar Space pedals, two revolutionary new stompboxes designed for use with the GC-1 GK-Ready Stratocaster and other GK-compatible guitars with a 13-pin output.

Roland GR-D / GR-S
Roland’s GR-D and GR-S offer GK Power in a Twin Pedal Stompbox.

Housed in the popular Twin Pedal format and equipped with connections for integrating with standard pedals, amps, multi-effects, and other GK devices, the V-Guitar pedals deliver a wide range of unique sounds that can only be achieved with Roland’s GK processing.

The GR-D V-Guitar Distortion and GR-S V-Guitar Space bring the immense power of GK technology to the familiar guitar stompbox. In combination with a guitar outfitted with a Roland GK pickup, the V-Guitar pedals allow players with traditional setups to enjoy some of the incredible sound potential found in cutting-edge Roland GK products like the GR-55 Guitar Synthesizer and VG-99 V-Guitar System. The pedals also give current GK users all-new additional sounds for their existing rig.

Unlike standard monophonic guitar pickups, the Roland GK pickup senses and isolates each individual string on the instrument, sending them as six discrete signals to a 13-pin jack. When connected to a GK device like a V-Guitar pedal, each string can be processed individually, opening up a universe of sound possibilities that are impossible with a normal 1/4-inch guitar output.

Verellen Amplifiers intros Meatsmoke and Skyhammer Preamp Pedals

Verellen Amplifiers has introduced an affordable, portable solution for musicians seeking the expansive tube tones of their Meatsmoke and Skyhammer amplifiers.

Verellen Preamp Pedals deliver tube-driven reproductions of the acclaimed preamp circuitry featured in their flagship, full-size amps.

Verellen Meatsmoke Preamp Pedal

“We realized there was a growing group of people who were really interested in owning one of our amplifiers, but it was beyond their budget,” says Ben Verellen, founder and amp designer. “We recently had a customer request a tube preamp in the form of a pedal, so we gave it a shot-and the results were astounding! We were amazed at how much of the sonic characteristics of our amps could be crammed into a pedal format. We realized we could offer a production version of a preamplifier pedal with the same quality components and care that goes into our custom amps”

The VERELLEN PREAMP PEDALS ship complete with Gain control, 3-band EQ, and Master Volume controls. High and Low output modes allow for instrument-level use with a standard guitar or bass amplifier, or run directly into a power amplifier.

Verellen Skyhammer Preamp Pedal

The dedicated record output includes a speaker simulating filter with two levels of intensity. This allows for running the PREAMP PEDALS directly into a mixing board, tape machine, or DAW, without the need for heavy power amps or speaker cabinets.

“There are plenty of tube stomp boxes out there,” Verellen says. “The goal here was to create the entire preamp sections of the MEATSMOKE and SKYHAMMER amps in tidy, foot-switchable packages. We took a very brute force approach to the design, cutting no corners.”

Built for abuse and rigorous touring, each PREAMP PEDAL is constructed of the highest-quality components housed in a sturdy black steel enclosure, set between two side-panels of finished birch.

The Meatsmoke and Skyhammer Preamp Pedals are available now, at a retail price of $699 USD each. Rack-mountable versions will follow shortly for the same price. During the first month of availability, customers can purchase the pedals via a Kickstarter campaign for a discounted price of $499 USD each.

Eventide releases Blackhole reverb plugin

Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on May 10, 2012 - comment 1 comment

Eventide has released Blackhole, a native reverb effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

Eventide Blackhole
Eventide Blackhole – reverberation from Space stompbox goes native.

Blackhole is a massive reverberator that has evolved over the years by pulling in mass quantities of time and energy (of the development persuasion, of course). In its earliest incarnation – first in the DSP4000 and later in the H8000 flagship processors – it was regarded, by some, as a secret weapon. Recently it was tuned, expanded and enhanced and then unleashed in the Eventide Space stompbox. Now, it’s available as a Native plug-in.

Blackhole may not be your first choice to simulate an enclosure on the surface of the earth but, if you’re at all interested in ‘sculpting sound’, Blackhole just might pull you in. From our vantage point, its possibilities appear to be endless but, of course, we can’t see beyond its event horizon.

Blackhole for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX) is available to purchase for the introductory price of $99 USD (regular $199 USD). A crossgrade is available to owners of the Space stompbox for the intro price of $49 USD (regular $99 USD). Note: Blackhole requires iLok2.
