Soundcells releases Simple Sampling ReFill

Soundcells Simple Sampling

Soundcells has announced the release of Simple Sampling, a ReFill for Reason 4 and higher.

At first Soundcells started working on a fun ReFill based on a Stylophone only, which was recorded for sampling purposes. Besides programming a patch that matches the real thing, the NNXT sampler in Reason was tweaked to go some extra steps and some fat funky clavinet-style patches caught by surprise.

While producing the Stylofunk mini track (apart from the loop it’s entirely based on stylophone samples) some extra cool stuff was added to this ReFill: a “single-sample-rhodes”, a “single-sample-piano”, a “single-sample-kalimba” and a lot of other nifty stuff… “Simple Sampling” gradually turned into a product full of “simple samples” coming from different sound sources.

If you are looking for sampling like it was done in the old days instead of patches with hundreds of individual samples, you will love this ReFill. Super quick loading patches, very cpu-friendly and most of all full of character and very charming…

Simple Sampling features

  • 101 combinator patches for many different styles of music, subdivided in 6 folders: Bass, Drum Machines, FX & Atmo, Keys, Leads, Pads.
  • A note by note (a2 – e4) sampled and looped Stylophone including it´s typical release click.
  • “Simple Samples” coming from the Rhodes Mark 1, Doepfer MS404, Supernova 2, microKORG, G2, VL1…
  • The modules folder contains the basic NNXT patches which are used for the combinator sounds.
  • 10 Rex loops, 5 Redrum kits.

Simple Sampling is available for the introductory price of 14.90 EUR through October 2010 (regular price 19.90 EUR).

Hollow Sun Stylophone, sample library for Kontakt

Hollow Sun Stylophone

Hollow Sun has released Stylophone, a sampled instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.

The Dubreq Stylophone was a runaway success in the ’70s, not so much within musical circles (although they have been used by such luminaries as David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Pulp) but as a gimmick, a toy, a marketing success story.

The Hollow Sun Stylophone’s samples come from an original Stylophone a friend found in his attic, something he had as a lad and had almost forgotten about.

Hollow Sun Stylophone features

  • An original Stylophone.
  • 44.1kHz/24-bit (to capture the Stylophone’s full on/off dynamic range).
  • Comprehensively multi-sampled (well… I captured the notes that worked).
  • Sounds authentically irritating.
  • Polyphonic – play chords with that annoying sound.
  • Allows you to express your inner musical self through the medium of cheese.
  • Enormous fun if nothing else.

The Hollow Sun Stylophone for Kontakt is available to purchase for $5 USD.

acid.milch&honig stylobox & transistor drums 2.0, instrument plugins

acid.milch&honig stylobox

acid.milch&honig has released stylobox and transistor drums 2.0, two instrument plug-ins for Windows.

I started a little new series, the acid.milch&honig micro toys, and stylobox is the first unit: it is my try to emulate a well known classic.

it works with something between virtual analog and physical modelling and has no samples inside. and because of this fact now I was able to play octaves, which my original never had ;)

acid.milch&honig transistor drums 2.0

transistor drums 2.0 is the second unit in the micro toys series.

its sound is a little bit inspired by the 808 and 909 classics but it was not my intention to make it sounding original it sounds more acid.milch&honig ;)

Changes in transistor drums 2.0

  • kick = virtual analogue (old version was sampled).
  • snare = analogue/sample mixed (old was only sampled).
  • clap = granularsampled (old was simply a sample).
  • some changes in the envelope response.

The stylophone and transistor drums 2.0 are available to download as donationware VST instruments for Windows PC.

Soundcells releases Simple Sampling and announces Holiday Season Sale

Soundcells Simple Sampling

Soundcells has released Simple Sampling, a free ReFill for Reason.

At first we started working on a fun refill based on a Stylophone we recorded for sampling purposes. So we started sampling this little toy note by note. Besides programming a patch that matches the real thing we also tweaked the nnxt to go some extra steps. Some fat funky clavinet-style patches caught us by surprise.

While producing a first mini track (apart from the loop it’s entirely based on stylophone samples) we added some extra cool stuff to this refill: a “single-sample-rhodes”, a “single-sample-piano”, a “single-sample-kalimba” and some other nifty stuff…”Simple Sampling” – the name speaks for itself!

Simple Sampling features

  • 25 combinator patches mainly based on Stylophone samples, a Rhodes-like patch that really feels great while playing the keys, mouth watering atmospheric content and some retro oriented surprises.
  • A note by note (a2 – e4) sampled and looped Stylophone including it´s typical release click.
  • “Simple Samples” coming from the Rhodes Mark 1, Doepfer MS404, a mini kalimba, a piano, a bassoon…
  • 10 Rex loops.

The Simple Sampling ReFill is available to download on request, free of charge.

Soundcells has also announced a “Before-And-After-Christmas” sale:

While the last days before Christmas are knocking at our door it´s time for us to offer you something special. Along with regular Christmas sentiments we´d like to present you with an almost 30% discount on most of our products! This offer starts now and will end on January 10th.

Put a SOUNDCELLS refill on your wish list for Christmas so you won´t get another pair of socks, your third toaster or a bad bottle of sour wine coming from a good and sweet heart!

Some interesting things I found recently:

Cheap, Fat & Open

Synth features

  • atmega328 processor
  • 12bit DAC sound

# V3 SYNTH-CAR – Gijs Gieskes' Synth-Car V3: A fan, random sequencer, Gakken SX-150, drums, marbles, LDRs, nails, a circuit bent camera, and more!

Hemisphere Games Osmos

# Hemisphere Games Osmos – Enter the ambient world of Osmos: elegant, physics-based gameplay, dreamlike visuals, and a minimalist, electronic soundtrack.

Your objective is to grow by absorbing other motes. Propel yourself by ejecting matter behind you. But be wise: ejecting matter also shrinks you. Relax… good things come to those who wait.

Progress from serenely ambient levels into varied and more challenging worlds. Confront attractors, repulsors and intelligent motes with similar abilities and goals as you.

# Art of Sound Contest Winners – Instructables Zalytron, Bleep Labs, and Create Digital Music are happy to announce the winners of the Art of Sound Contest!

Sound and music mean many things to many people and that was very apparent in the entries to this contest. From building instruments from scratch to interacting with sound to analyzing and distorting the sound, the entries covered a wide array of possibilities.

Moldover CD

# Alternative Music Distribution: Moldover’s CD Case as Circuit Board Noisemaker

Peter Kirn writes:

Moldover is the latest artist to experiment with ways of re-imagining the musical object. Already a fan of custom sonic circuitry, he made his CD into a circuit board. Some of it is just aesthetic, like the printed lettering. But there is also integrated noise-making circuitry for a very simple optical Theremin (well, at least, a light sensor-driven oscillator), plus a headphone jack. There’s actually quite a lot of function you can get out of that when plugging into a computer.
