Longcat AudioStage, New dimensions in 3D audio authoring

Related: , , , , , , , Posted in news on Jan 17, 2011
Longcat AudioStage

Longcat has released AudioStage, the first 3D audio authoring and mixing solution compatible with all major audio software.

AudioStage benefits from a full-3D user interface that shows a virtual sound scene and all its components: audio sources, listeners, rooms and trajectories.

The interface may be used with tactile screens or a mouse, and allows for a simple sound and space authoring.

The 3D scene allows to simultaneously obtain an infinity of mixes addressing a large number of formats. The editor and sound engineer may concentrate on the audio scene creation, without taking the final support into account, hence gaining productivity and creativity.

AudioStage features

  • Input tracks: mono or multichannel.
  • Acoustic environment: complete with connected rooms, physical simulation of openings, walls, and reverb.
  • Authoring: infinite number of scenes, tracks, and environments in one single project.
  • Automation: full parameter automation and animation of audio objects.
  • 3D object-based mixing: simultaneously mix in stereo, surround, or any full-3D format up to 64 channels.
  • Spatialization: comprehensive techniques (including stereo, binaural, stereo3D, surround, Ambisonics, and VBAP) applied individually to audio sources in each mix.
  • Commercial editions: AudioStage Stereo, Surround, and Unlimited.
  • Free LITE edition available for your first 3D mixes.

AudioStage is available to purchase for Windows and Mac, starting at 990 EUR (introductory price for the Stereo edition). A free AudioStage LITE edition is available to download from the Longcat Audio website.

EastWest releases Quantum Leap Spaces convolution reverb

Quantum Leap Spaces

EastWest has announced the release of Quantum Leap Spaces, a 24-bit, true stereo convolution reverb for Windows and Mac.

An arsenal of the best gear that Neumann, Neve, Telefunken, TG, Manley, Sennheiser, Fairchild (to name a few) have produced over the past 60 years was used to create QUANTUM LEAP SPACES, along with the Sony DRE S777 sampling reverb and Meitner A-D converters. ATC monitors were positioned in the room/hall to emulate the real world sound projection properties of various instruments. So an impulse taken for a French horn was created by firing the sweep tones from the middle to left rear of the stage, backwards and slightly towards the floor. 1st violin section impulses were taken by firing a series of speakers at an angle towards the ceiling, just like a real section. A fifth speaker with the high end reduced was fired towards the floor to emulate the body of the violins. This same methodology was used to record reverbs for rock instruments in various LA studios. Because of this, the reverbs in QUANTUM LEAP SPACES have a fantastic balance of early reflections and room sound that really draws a dry instrument into the space, rather than the usual “sound plus reverb” result.

Quantum Leap Spaces features

  • Produced and Engineered By Nick Phoenix.
  • Highest resolution, most useful, reverbs available.
  • 24-bit True Stereo, with True Surround capability.
  • ATC, Neumann, Telefunken, Neve, Meitner Signal Path.
  • Film Score, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical, Esoteric and Dreamy Reverbs.
  • Low CPU usage, with cleanest signal path possible.

Quantum Leap Spaces is available to purchase as a download for $299 USD / 225 EUR (DVD expected shipping date is week of January 24th).

Eric Beam “Brings the noise!”, free test tones/noise samples

Eric Beam - Bring the noise!

Eric Beam has posted a number of free audio test files from a Prism dScope III audio analyzer and a Dolby SDU4 surround decoder.

For everyone that designs, tests, creates, calibrates, or has an odd preference for what they consider “listening enjoyment”, This is for you.

Having calibrated utility & test files is a must for any audio engineer. The corner stone being pink noise. When it comes to generating tones/noise ITB I have found most DAW to be severely lacking in this area. After much frustration with the incorrect Protools signal generator “Pink”. I’ve captured Tones/Noise from a calibrated DScope & Dolby SDU4.

Weldroid releases ambio.one

Weldroid ambio.one

Weldroid has released ambio.one, a free crosstalk-cancellation effect plug-in for Windows, based on the RACE algorythm developed by the Ambiophonic Institute.

The plugin can be used to process regular 2-channel stereo material for ambiophonic presentation. This is basically a 2-speaker setup where the speakers themselves are placed close to each other, but still, due to the crosstalk cancellation, the achieved soundstage can be (almost) up-to 180 degrees.

ambio.one features

  • Highly customizeable crosstalk-cancellation solution based on the RACE algorythm developed by the Ambiophonic Institute.
  • Compatibility with Winamp (and any other software capable of loading Winamp DSP plugins, like the great FFDshow codec), and foobar2000 is provided via wrappers (Winamp VST Bridge, foobar2000 VST wrapper).
  • The plug-in has a detailed on-line help.

More information on how to set up an ambiophonic system can be found on the ambiophonics.org website.

ambio.one is available to download as a freeware VST effect plug-in for Windows PC.
