Galbanum Synthesism 01, sample pack with harmonic and melodic content

Galbanum Synthesism 01

Loopmasters has announced the release of Synthesism 01, a new sample pack by Galbanum.

Synthesism 01 is the first member of a new series of products in the Galbanum Sample Line. The Synthesism series is the harmonic and melodic cousin of the atonal-percussion-based Abstraction series.

Synthesism loops are designed to be mixed with existing drum and percussion loops to symbiotically fill in the rhythmic gaps, provide a tonal melodic identity, and co-formulate futuristic grooves that are more infectious than a viral marketing campaign. Synthesism 01 focuses on chunky negative-space baselines, angular melodic stabs, ill-behaved electro rudeness, oblique synth heretics, minimal polyrhythmic ostinatos, and asymmetric tonal clusters.

Synthesism 01 features

  • 768 Acid Wav Loops, 24bit/44kHz format.
  • All loops are 2 measures long and are designed to allow using partial segments of the full loop to give thousands of variations.
  • Produced at native tempos of 128BPM & 106BPM and is designed to effortlessly stretch from 90BPM to 140BPM and beyond to fit all tempo ranges used in current dance, electronic, and urban music sub-genres.
  • Also available in Apple Loops format.

Galbanum Synthesism 01 is available to purchase for £29.95 GBP.

Some interesting things I found recently:

# Handmade synth senses wireless activity

From Make:

Yoshi Akai's Wireless Catcher analog synth derives control input from nearby wireless signals picked up by an onboard antennae. As if that weren't interesting enough, the copper control panel sports some elegant decorative flourishes typical of his impressive body of work.

# Percussus

A robot drum machine made with midi controlled relays. A PIC microcontroller decodes relay on/off codes from a sequencer program.

nofi - Elsewhere

# nofi – Elsewhere (album preview)

A full preview of the new Nofi album, 'Elsewhere,' to be released on March 4, 2010. This is a return to a more abstract, ambient, chilled-out, laid-back, space lounge sound, featuring six extended pieces:

The music on 'Elsewhere' was created using Ableton Suite 8 with Max for Live, Nodal generative music software, Native Instruments' Reaktor modular sound studio and Massive virtual synth, on an Apple MacBook Pro with Novation ReMOTE ZeRO and Monome greyscale 64 controllers, and a Presonus Firebox audio interface.

Note: This exclusive preview will be available for steaming on SoundCloud only until the album is released.

# Interview: George Mattson, Mattson Mini Modular

Interview conducted as part of electronicmusic.com's New Wave Modular Synthesizers series via Google Wave between Paul Clark and George Mattson, Mattson Mini Modular, January 2010

The Superplexer

# The Superplexus

This is the three-dimensional spherical labyrinth that challenges the limits of your manual dexterity and spatial understanding as you maneuver a 5/8" wooden marble through its entire course.

The Superplexus is a complex network of chicanes, multi-planar hairpin turns, spirals, and staircases–even a vortex. Hand made from 3- and 6-ply Finnish birch that form the track, over 400 hours are involved in its construction. The labyrinth is set inside a 36" diameter acrylic sphere affixed to a Jatoba base using a stainless steel gimbaled mount that allows you to tilt the sphere in any direction to guide the marble.

This lovely puzzle can be yours for a mere $30,000 USD.

Lab3 Arduino Sine wave Generator

Some interesting things I found recently:

# Arduino Sine wave Generator using the DDS Method

From Lab3:

Here we describe how to generate sine waves with an Arduino board in a very accurate way . Almost no additional hardware is required. The frequency range reaches form zero to 16 KHz with a resolution of a millionth part of one Hertz ! Distortions can be kept less than one percent on frequencies up to 3 KHz. This technique is not only useful for music and sound generation another range of application is test equipment or measurement instrumentation. Also in telecommunication the DDS Method is useful for instance in frequency of phase modulation (FSK PSK).

# Gruss Loops – Volume VII is here!

Ryan writes:

I’m happy to announce that the wait is finally over. Gruss Loops Volume VII is now available! With some major studio upgrades at Gruss Headquarters over the past month, I think you’ll be able to hear the enriched sonic textures that only a few thousand dollars made out to Steve Jobs can bring. If you put your mouth against the speakers, you might even be able to taste it.

little-scale Novation Laundpad

# little-scale Novation Launchpad – Sebastian uses Max/MSP to create a linear sequencer, ripple sequencer and waveform editor for the Novation Launchpad.

Today I made a simple ripple-based sequencer for the Novation Launchpad. The idea is simple. By pressing a grid button, a yellow, square ripple is created that emanates from the point that was touched. By holding down a modifier button and pressing a grid button, static, red points are created. Each red point represents a musical note. Whenever a given yellow ripple intersects (touches) a red point, the sequencer plays a note.

# Endless loop: A brief history of chiptunes

By Kevin Driscoll, Joshua Diaz. The abstract:

Chiptune refers to a collection of related music production and performance practices sharing a history with video game soundtracks. The evolution of early chiptune music tells an alternate narrative about the hardware, software, and social practices of personal computing in the 1980s and 1990s. By digging into the interviews, text files, and dispersed ephemera that have made their way to the Web, we identify some of the common folk-historical threads among the commercial, noncommercial, and ambiguously commercial producers of chiptunes with an eye toward the present-day confusion surrounding the term chiptune. Using the language of affordances and constraints, we hope to avoid a technocratic view of the inventive and creative but nevertheless highly technical process of creating music on computer game hardware.
