TC Electronic announces LM6 Radar Loudness Meter support for AAX

TC Electronic LM6

TC Electronic has confirmed that its cross-platform LM6 Radar Loudness Meter, scheduled for launch December 2011, will also support Avid’s new AAX plug-in format.

At the recent AES Convention in New York City, Avid presented a new plug-in format for Pro Tools 10: AAX (Avid Audio eXtension). One of the most frequently asked questions for third-party plug-in developers during the show was how soon they would be able to support this new format.

TC is proud to announce that its LM6 Radar Loudness Meter, which was also revealed at AES, will in fact support the new AAX format right from the start.

LM6 Radar Loudness Meter will be available in VST, AU, RTAS and AAX Native versions December 2011.

TC Electronic has announced the Radar Meter Bundle for Pro Tools HD, a complete loudness meter package that is perfect for all post and production studios whether they deliver for broadcast or cinema.

TC Electronic Radar Meter Bundle

Our LM5D plug-in for Pro Tools HD has been setting the standard for loudness metering in professional post and production studios for years. Now, it is joined by the new AM6 plug-in, and together they form: ‘Radar Meter Bundle for Pro Tools HD’.

Our highly-acclaimed radar display has proven a fast track to upgrade audio production for broadcast, film and music from unsatisfactory peak level indicators to loudness based metering. Now, you can get the new AM6 plug-in that makes the highly efficient radar available for also controlling trailers and commercials in cinema production. Measurements are based on Leq(M), and AM6 conforms to the TASA standard, which is used by authorities such as MPAA to certify theatrical trailers. Further, additional features include 5.1 true-peak metering, scalable timing, scalable resolution and more.

The Radar Meter Bundle TDM is available to purchase for $799 USD / 599 EUR. Owners of a license for LM5D for Pro Tools HD can download the new AM6 Radar Annoyance Meter for free.

TC Electronic updates Loudness Meter Range to comply with ITU-R BS.1770-2

TC Electronic has announced it has updated its entire Loudness Meter Range to comply with ITU-R BS.1770-2.

TC Electronic Loudness Meter Range

A global audio revolution is in the happening. For the past two years, pro audio and broadcasting has been moving away from peak level normalization and towards new, loudness-based solutions. In April 2011, another important step was taken when ITU-R upgraded its BS.1770 standard to BS.1770-2.

The first version of BS.1770 relied on ambiguous speech detection, which can have unexpected consequences trying to control the level of commercials or programs of certain genres. The improved 1770-2 recommendation incorporates a clever relative gate, making the measurement well-defined and practical to use, also across genres.

It is now even relevant for controlling the level of promos and commercials. Further, the new version is completely open standard, because TC Electronic donated core technology to EBU, where it was refined by PLOUD; and now brought back into the revised ITU standard.

Now, TC Electronic updates its radar loudness meters in System 6000 MKII (v. 5.11), DB4 (v. 3.20), DB8 (v. 3.20), DB4 MKII (v. 3.20), DB8 MKII (v. 3.20), LM2 (v.1.11), TC TouchMonitor TM7 & TM9 (v. 1.14) and for ProTools HD (LM5D version 2) to comply with BS.1770-2.

Besides from BS.1770-2 measurement compatibility, these machines also have dedicated EBU R128, TR-B32 and ATSC A/85 metering presets. Additionally, smooth and BS.1770-2 compliant loudness correction is now available in DB4, DB8, DB4 MKII and DB8 MKII, while DB2 will get the capability this summer.

The updates are available to download now.

Dynaudio Acoustics announces the ultimate monitoring bundle: PLM3A

Dynaudio Acoustics has announced the PLM3A, a high-performance monitoring bundle.

Dynaudio Acoustics PLM3A

The days of deception are over. PLM3A speaks nothing but the truth!

Speaking of the truth and as the saying goes: a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. With that in mind, the PLM3A bundle is the perfect example of how three state-of-the-art elements have been successfully combined to become the ultimate audio monitoring chain. A set of unrivalled Dynaudio Acoustics M3A 3-way monitors is the first link, a Lab.gruppen PLM 10000Q amplifier is the second and cutting-edge Lake and TC Electronic processing is the third link, ensuring that any room can become the perfect listening facility.

PLM3A includes:

  • Dynaudio Acoustics M3A – Dynaudio Acoustics has provided audio professionals with first-class monitoring solutions for decades, and the M3A monitors build on that proud tradition, being equipped with extremely clean, dynamic, powerful and reliable speakers in which common problems such as cone break up, thermal compression and phase misalignment have been almost eliminated. The M3A speakers feature a pair of 300mm bass drivers that are perfectly complemented by two 150mm piston midrange drivers, and the high frequencies are accommodated by a high-power version of the 28mm Esotec T-330 DA dome tweeter that is considered the finest dome tweeter available. All of the drivers are ferrofluid cooled, which is a benefit only made possible on low frequency drivers by the use of custom designed ferrofluid compounds applied to very tightly tolerated voice coil gaps – a feature that is absolutely unique to Dynaudio Acoustics.
  • Lab.gruppen PLM 10000Q – The PLM 10000Q amplifier delivers an impressive 4 x 2,300 watts at 4 ohms and is based on technology from Lab.gruppen’s highly acclaimed and road-proven FP+ series. PLM 10000Q is based on Lab.gruppen’s patented Class TD amplifier design that offers the proven efficiency of Class D amplification with the amazing, sonic purity of Class B designs, but that is not all. A new circuit provides substantially greater current-carrying capabilities, and the Regulated Switch Mode Power Supply (R.SMPS) is optimized to deliver full power during long low-frequency bursts as well as maintain stable rail voltages despite fluctuating line voltage. Finally, advanced cross-overs inside the PLM 10000Q feed its four output stages, allowing for optimized RMS and true-peak limiter settings for the lo and mid/hi drivers.
  • Lake and TC Electronic processing – Having the perfect monitors and amplifier is one thing. Making them deliver divine audio quality in any room is another – and this is where unique Lake processing makes all the difference. Lab-gruppen’s PLM 10000Q amplifer holds two full-featured Lake Processor modules, each offering precise settings for gain, delay, crossover slope, equalization and limiting that provide unparalleled power to correct, shape and optimize any sound source for any control room. Exclusive Lake Processing algorithms are included for Raised Cosine Equalization, linear phase crossovers, LimiterMax loudspeaker protection, and Iso-Float ground isolation. Raised Cosine Equalization is the foundation for the Lake Mesa EQ and the Ideal Graphic EQ, the two revolutionary EQ interfaces used by the Dolby Lake Processor. Mesa EQ offers asymmetric filtering to match the asymmetric responses of many loudspeaker systems while the Ideal Graphic EQ offers true sum-to-flat response, so the adjustments provide uniform boost and cut along with greater selectivity.

PLM3A is available now for $18,000 USD / 13,950 EUR (ex VAT).
