TC Electronic updates TM7 & TM9 software for dual radar display

Related: , , , Posted in news on Apr 15, 2011

TC Electronic has announced the addition of a dual radar display to the LM6 loudness radar meter algorithm for TC TouchMonitors with software version 1.11.

TC Electronic LM6 dual radar display

With the optional LM6 algorithm installed, users can load two independent Radar meters simultaneously on their TC TouchMonitor TM7 or TM9. This opens a number of highly valuable configurations. For example, it is possible to let one Radar meter instance display a pre-processing signal while the other instance shows a post-processing signal – and best of all, both can be monitored at the same time for the ultimate audio overview. Another scenario could be having two Radar meters display both a stereo and a 5.1 signal simultaneously – or two stereo or two 5.1 signals, of course. Finally, both instances also provide 24 hour history for the audio being monitored.

Other instruments have been updated as well – for example, it is now possible to run multiple instances of the Surround Sound Analyzer. Also, the on-screen help feature has been improved as has the general UI expeience with e.g. enhanced mouse sensitivity and new slider functions. Finally, the software release also features improvements with regard to general stability and performance.

In essence, TC TouchMonitor TM7 & TM9 is the ultimate loudness meter solution, featuring touch screen, an extremely consistent loudness readout and compatibility with e.g. American, European and Japanese broadcasting standards.

For decades, TC Electronic has explored and pioneered the field of digital audio and loudness metering, offering state of the art tools for measuring, correcting and converting audio for a wide variety of applications. For instance, the amazing Radar Meter is available as a software plug-in (LM5D) for Pro Tools HD and TC Electronic’s award-winning System 6000 MKII platform, DB4 MKII and DB8 MKII broadcasting processors and the newly introduced LM2 rack based stereo loudness meter.

The TC TouchMonitor TM7 & TM9 is a full-featured stereo and multichannel loudness and true-peak level meter, which is perfect not only for broadcast ingest and transmission, but also for post, film and live production. To comply with a given international broadcasting standard, the numbers representing loudness are paramount, and these all-important digits are displayed instantly on the large color touch screen.

RH750 captures the essence of this new revolutionary concept with a built-in chromatic tuner, three presets and jaw-dropping tone shaping abilities combined with immense power and stunning bass tone.

The new RH750 raises the bass bar to new heights. First of all, it jams significant power into its compact design – 750 watts (1200 watts peak) just waiting to be unleashed on stages everywhere! Secondly, a new TweeterTone knob, offering ‘intelligent HF control’, takes RH750 from old-school vintage tones to crisp and modern bass tones or anything in between in seconds. Further, RH750 includes SpectraComp, a unique ‘per string’ bass compressor that has been praised by bass players all over the world for its extremely even compression across all strings. The head also includes TubeTone, an amazing recreation of both a tube pre- and power amp. Combine this with an extremely versatile 4-band tone control section and the new TweeterTone feature and the tone shaping capability of RH750 is in a league of its own.

Also, the built-in, chromatic bass tuner makes maintaining perfect pitch of the low notes on the stage simple. The tuner is always displaying the tuning state of the bass, and it is a breeze to tune up silently and swiftly between songs by hitting the Mute button. It has never been faster to get back to the important thing – playing music!

TC Electronic PolyTune update adds Drop-D tuning

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Apr 05, 2011

TC Electronic has announced a software update for the PolyTune polyphonic tuner, adding Drop-D tuning.

TC Electronic PolyTune

PolyTune has received numerous awards and gained a huge fan base in just a little over a year, and now TC Electronic meets the single most demanded feature: support for Drop-D tuning!

TC Electronic has revolutionized guitar tuning at a stroke – or strum – with PolyTune™, the world’s first polyphonic guitar tuner. This cutting-edge tuning technology revolutionizes tuning and accomplishes what has been deemed ‘impossible’ until now: tuning all strings simultaneously! It’s as simple as: strum, tune and rock – even for hard-riffing guitarists and bassists who like to drop the lower E-string down to D! For switching between standard tuning and Drop-D, just press and hold the footswitch for two seconds.

The update also includes a new ’Capo Mode’ that compensates when a capo is being used, and best of all, the update is completely free of charge to all PolyTune users! The software update is available on TC Electronic’s website, and it is simple to install via PolyTune’s USB port – it’s just a matter of hooking up the pedal to a computer and uploading the new software version.

TC Electronic announces DB4 MKII & DB8 MKII cross-platform broadcast processors

Related: , , , Posted in news on Mar 01, 2011

TC Electronic has announced the DB4 MKII & DB8 MKII, two cross-platform broadcast processors which add more of everything compared to their predecessors.

TC Electronic DB8 MKII

DB4 MKII and DB8 MKII conform to new EBU, ATSC and ITU Loudness and True-peak level standards across all platforms and all formats. The broadcast world’s highest resolution, lowest latency and lowest distortion comes complimentary with DB4 MKII and DB8 MKII.

More Metering – The MKII versions feature the new EBU R128 and ATSC A/85 compliant LM6 Loudness Meter, new SNMP functions and one week of detailed logging, even without connection to a computer. In DB4 MKII, the LM6 meter is always available in addition to its two multichannel audio processors.

More Redundancy – With several thousand units operating constantly and globally, there is plenty of proof that the original DB4 and DB8 processors rarely fail. Now add the redundancy of the MKII versions: Same power supply, but two of them. Also, double up on fuses, double up on mains inlets and double up on the Swiss-made Papst fans.

More Compatibility – TC Electronic’s DB2, DB4 and DB8 processors are famous for their preset compatibility, allowing installations of any size to use the same settings. DB4 MKII and DB8 MKII are just as user-friendly and run presets from original DB4 and DB8 units straight out of the box.

More Trickle-Down – DB4 and DB8 processors have a record of introducing novel solutions that facilitate multi-platform broadcast (’Trickle-Down processing’) from one, low latency frame. The MKII’s continue on the same path with generous new functions that work regardless if metadata has been correctly set upstream or not.

Mastering Quality – Synchronous 48 kHz sampling and 48 bit processing throughout, in combination with massive jitter rejection, ensures high audio resolution and perfect timing, even when long transmission lines are used to feed a processor. Hundreds of DB processors can be cascaded without degrading the sound as much as a single pass through HDTV data reduction.

DB-4 MKII & DB-8 MKII main features

  • Compatibility – conform to new EBU, ATSC and ITU Loudness and True-peak level standards across all platforms and all formats.
  • LM6 metering – EBU R128 and ATSC A/85 compliant and new SNMP functions.
  • Logging – One week of detailed logging, even without connection to a computer.
  • Double up – Two power supplies, two fuses, two main inlets and two Swiss-made Papst fans.
  • Preset compatibility – Runs original DB4 and DB8 presets right out of the box.
  • More Trickle-Down – Work whether metadata has been correctly set upstream or not.
  • Mastering quality – 48 kHz sampling, 48 bit processing and massive jitter rejection ensures high audio resolution and perfect timing.

DB4 MKII and DB8 MKII are available now and will be on display at the NAB Show 2011 in Las Vegas (April 11 – 14) at booth SU10217.

Pricing:

  • DB-4 MKII: US$10,995 MSRP / €9,000 List (excl VAT)
  • DB-8 MKII: US$17,495 MSRP / €14,000 List (excl VAT)

TC Group – parent company of leading audio manufacturing brands TC Electronic, Tannoy, Lab.gruppen, Lake and TC Helicon – announced on Tuesday at the opening of Integrated Systems Europe 2011 that it is to become part of the AVnu Alliance, the industry forum dedicated to the establishment and promotion of the IEEE 802.1 Audio/Video Bridging (AVB) open network standard. As TC Group is a major player in key sectors of the pro audio market, the move adds further momentum and specific market and technological expertise to the efforts in establishing AVB as the preferred Ethernet-based audio and video networking environment for next generation products.

Interoperability has long been a key consideration for the group, as it strives to align its diverse portfolio of audio products, with the objective of offering the customer ease of integration and complete system compatibility. TC Group is fully supportive of the move towards IEEE 802.1, stating that the establishment of AVB as the leading open standard will benefit customers, manufacturers and the industry as a whole by providing a level playing field for future product development while giving end users greater confidence in, and choice of, network-compatible devices.

TC Group sees networked audio as a critical issue in pro audio – in both the install and tour world – and has already utilized digital audio networking across multiple branded components, such as the implementation of established Ethernet-based protocols in Lab.gruppen’s PLM Series and Lake’s LM 26. Development of technologies intended to be in line with proposed AVB standards is already being carried out by the group’s specialist division TC Applied Technologies and this formal announcement by TC Group to join AVnu Alliance goes some way to underlining those advances. It also gives substance to the company’s continual efforts to provide customers with the latest and most flexible interoperable system solutions – through the development of products that support AVB as well as other relevant network standards.
