SoundToys PanMan

SoundToys has announced the release of SoundToys version 4, an update to the bundle of effect plug-ins for Windows and Mac.

Here’s what you get: SoundToys TDM Effects, and SoundToys Native Effects owners get TWO amazing new plug-ins, our new built-in preset management system, and an exclusive V4 set of presets. That’s the much anticipated Decapitator, analog saturation modeler, and the astounding PanMan rhythmic auto-panner, all for the low upgrade prices of $199.00 for SoundToys TDM Effects, and $99.00 for SoundToys Native Effects. V4 upgrades for single plug-ins also available.

New in SoundToys V4

  • Decapitator Analog Saturation Modeler — Analog saturation has long been the magic mojo that engineers have used as their swiss army knife of mixing. It’s used on drums, bass, vocals guitars, everything. It can be used to beef things up, thin things out, give them some edge, fry them up nice, add a bit of warmth, pull things out of the mix, or even create a signature sound. Subtle to extreme, analog saturation is the golden child of great mixes. That’s why we took our time, bought and listened to all the great analog classics, and painstakingly created that magic for you in Decapitator.
  • PanMan Rhythmic Auto-Panner — PanMan takes the supposedly simple process of moving audio back and forth in the stereo field and gives it that special touch that you’ve come to expect from our twisted minds. It features an over the top range of panning modes to recreate classic analog auto-panners plus some of the cool modes from our other plugs to push it a bit further into the future. With MIDI sync to tempo, preset storage, dynamic control, and automation you get modern innovation alongside the classic features from hard to find vintage analog hardware. Control width, speed, direction and more with the most full featured panner you’ve ever seen.

Waves releases Eddie Kramer HLS Channel and PIE Compressor

Waves HLS Channel

Waves has announced the release of HLS Channel and PIE Compressor, two new effects modeled in association with Eddie Kramer.

Developed in association with legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer, the HLS Channel was meticulously modeled on a Helios mixing console just like the one he used in historic sessions at London’s acclaimed Olympic Studios. (In fact, we actually managed to get our hands on the Helios from the Rolling Stones mobile truck, which was used on a slew of classic recordings during the early ‘70s.) In addition to modeling the Helios EQs with their sweet saturation, high-end presence, and fat low-frequency boost, we even modeled the unique behavior, coloration, and drive of the console’s preamps. To top it all off, the HLS Channel features a precision-modeled VU meter that recreates the sensitivity, ballistic behavior, look and feel of the original.

Eddie Kramer HLS Channel features

  • Modeled Mic & Line preamp drive.
  • Analog noise & hum for added realism.
  • EQ bypass mode.
  • Up to 24bit 96kHz resolution.
  • Mono and Stereo components.
  • Supports TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST, AU.
  • PC and Mac compatible.
Waves PIE Compressor

The PIE Compressor was precision-modeled on a vintage Pye compressor like the ones he used in historic sessions at London’s acclaimed Olympic Studios.

A mainstay in esteemed British studios throughout the classic rock era, the original Pye processors are considered by many to be among of the best buss compressors of all time. The Waves PIE plug-in features a meticulously modeled VU meter with superfast refresh rates that recreates the accuracy, sensitivity, and ballistic behavior of a physical analog meter.

Eddie Kramer PIE Compressor features

  • Analog noise & hum for added realism.
  • Compression and limiting modes.
  • Auto-makeup gain.
  • Up to 24bit 192kHz resolution.
  • Mono and Stereo components.
  • Supports TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST, AU.
  • PC and Mac compatible.

The HLS Channel and PIE Compressor plug-ins are available to purchase in native formats for $300 USD each, in TDM format for $600 USD each, or bundled for $450 USD Native / $900 TDM.

Waves Audio YourWaves

Waves has announced YourWaves, an interactive online Waves store offering three exciting new ways for users to get the Waves plug-ins of their choice, from different Waves bundles.

At register.waves.com/yourwaves, users can sign up for “Artist Choice,” “Quick Choice” or “Custom Choice,” each providing different approaches and plug-in options for the user

Waves YourWaves

  • “Artist Choice” is ideal for users who are curious as to which plug-ins are employed on favorite recordings and by top award-winning engineers. With YourWaves Artist Choice, audio heavyweights Andrew Scheps, Gil Norton, Thom Russo, Ross Hogarth and Scott Martin Gershin have each hand-picked a selection of the Waves plug-ins they cannot live (or work) without, giving consumers access to these masters’ signature sounds. More artists will be added to the YourWaves Artist Choice roster in the future.
  • “Quick Choice” lets users choose any five plug-ins from selected groups to get the most costeffective and specific combination. Also, if a user only has a certain budget, Quick Choice can build the perfect plug-in package to fit that user’s desired applications.
  • “Custom Choice” offers, for the very first time, the option to compile personalized collections of Waves plug-ins, and tailor their selections to precisely suit their production needs – the exact plug-ins they want; no more, no less.

Softube releases Trident A-Range

Softube Trident A-Range

Softube has announced the release of the Trident A-Range, a channel equalizer effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

The Trident A-Range is a legendary piece of equipment. As only thirteen A-Range consoles were ever made, it remains a holy grail for sound engineers and producers around the world that hope to create works of art equal to those that were originally recorded on the A-Range — David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, Queen, Elton John, the list goes on…

The A-Range plug-in from Softube is the first and only native and TDM plug-in that has been fully endorsed by original designer Malcolm Toft and Trident Audio.

The plug-in is a model of a channel on one of the original 13 Trident A-Range consoles. We chose to model channel 15 from the console at Sweet Silence Studio ‘B’ in Denmark, producer Flemming Rasmussen’s favorite channel for recording lead vocals. Flemming also used it for the solo and rhythm guitars on Metallica’s “Ride The Lightning” and “Master of Puppets”, and Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar on the Rainbow albums “Difficult to Cure” and “Bent out of Shape”.

The A-Range channel features four bands of equalization and high and low pass filters. The sound of the bands is often referred to as “colorful” and “musical”. When running a hot enough signal through the original unit and boosting the bands, it is possible to get it to distort, the result is a hairy and effective saturation that is just right in some situations, and just wrong in others!

Trident A-Range features

  • Created together with original designer Malcolm Toft.
  • Each and every component carefully modeled.
  • Same sweet sounding EQ filters that made the original legendary.
  • Interaction between the different bands, making this equalizer one of its kind.
  • Saturation control.
  • Very CPU friendly.

The Trident A-Range EQ is available at the introductory price of $229 USD (VST/AU/RTAS) or $329 USD (TDM/RTAS/VST/AU/VENUE) through February 2010.
