Fairlight CC-2

Fairlight has announced the release of CC-2, its next generation audio engine.

CC-2 is based on Fairlight’s Crystal Core Technology, powering their entire range of high-speed digital audio mixing, recording and editing systems, delivering guaranteed performance and increased efficiencies in the largest and most complex productions.

“Traditional approaches to audio processing are not enough in today’s high-track-count, multi-channel immersive surround mixing environments,” commented Tino Fibaek, Chief Technology Officer of Fairlight. “The new CC-2 guarantees rock-solid performance for our customers, with no limits. Creativity should never be limited by technology”.

CC-2 features

  • One Thousand Channels
Track counts and surround formats of today’s film and television productions require a more advanced and more scalable alternative to outdated DSP based solutions, which is why Fairlight has moved to the more advanced FPGA-based CC-2 technology. Providing 1,000 hard disk playback channels, 100 live inputs and 100+ output buses available, the CC-2 system is the fastest and most powerful audio engine ever made, perfectly suited to today’s submersive surround sound formats, including Dolby® Atmos™, DTS® MDA and NHK’s 22.2.
  • Enhanced Productivity
Tightly integrated with Fairlight’s editing and mixing environment, the new CC-2 enables a range of productivity-enhancing features including an entirely new 64 bit codebase, advanced delay compensation, and faster than real-time bounce to name just a few. With equalisation, dynamics, plug-ins and inserts always on every input and bus with near zero latency, unlimited headroom and legendary sound quality, Fairlight users will now be able to tackle larger projects, with more tracks, more processing power, and more speed with ease.
  • Accelerated Workflow
CC-2 is a quantum leap in processing power and when combined with Fairlight’s intuitive user interface, tactile control surfaces featuring their patented, self-labelling Picture Key Technology, and tight integration with third-party storage, media asset management systems or video collaboration environments, Fairlight delivers the fastest workflows of any system on the market. When faced with tight deadlines, you can rely on Fairlight to help you deliver a quality product, on time, every time, at least 20% faster than on competitive systems.
  • Invest in your future
Continuing a long tradition of seamless upgrade paths, Fairlight has ensured that CC-2 is also compatible with audio hardware purchased for CC-1. This means that owners of Fairlight systems don’t need to replace their current audio interfaces and control surfaces to upgrade to CC-2. Existing investments in Fairlight’s high-quality hardware continues to be supported, maximising the return of investment on existing equipment.

Roland announces marketing partnership with QSC

Roland / QSC

Roland Corporation and QSC Audio Products have announced a new marketing partnership promoting the concept of electronic and hybrid percussion as a whole and showcasing the pairing of V-Drums and K Series amplification as a total solution.

Roland V-Drums products are known worldwide as the foremost in electronic percussion, and QSC K Series monitors have become the gold standard in electronic percussion amplification. QSC has a long history of making high quality products, and K Series monitors are a perfect solution for amplifying the excellent dynamic response and sound set of Roland V-Drums.

Drummers have come to trust V-Drums for great playability, tactile dynamic response, silent mesh heads, supreme sound and editing capability, innovation, and industrial design. Creating the sounds of authentic acoustic drums, standard and exotic percussion instruments, as well as current and vintage electronic drums are all possible with V-Drums, giving the instruments a well-founded seat in today’s mainstream percussion domain. But in order for drummers to access the full capabilities of their V-Drums instruments, proper amplification is key. Extremely responsive electronic drums need a very unique kind of stage amplification that is accurate, has wide bandwidth, and is capable of keeping up with guitar amps and other amplified instruments.

“Musicians have recognized that K Series speakers are a great choice for electronic instrument amplification. With that in mind, we’re delighted to be working with Roland to spread the word about how well K Series and V-Drums go together,” said QSC Vice President of Marketing Gerry Tschetter.

QSC products are known for their innovation, value, and performance in the marketplace, and QSC’s K Series family of loudspeakers offers studio-quality reinforcement for V-Drums. V-Drums have a musical dynamic response that standard amplification cannot replicate. The amplification system needs dynamic headroom to accommodate transients, a frequency response to accurately render the high frequencies of a cymbal, and the power to produce a satisfying kick drum, all coming from V-Drums. This is also true when utilizing a hybrid kit consisting of acoustic drums and Roland percussion instruments. K Series amplifier systems are more than capable of playing at volumes that can not only drive the rhythm of the music with authority but also maintain a consistent Roland sound all across the listening area and throughout the full frequency spectrum.

“Roland is very happy to be working closely with QSC to give drummers exactly what they need to offer up their best performances. The combination of a Roland V-Drums percussion system and a QSC K Series instrument amplifier are made for each other and are one of the recommended amplification systems by Roland,” said Roland Corporation U.S. Vice President Paul Youngblood.

Universal Audio announces Unison technology – Classic analog mic preamps for Apollo

Universal Audio

Universal Audio has announced its Unison technology, an audio processing breakthrough that enables the popular Apollo Audio Interfaces’ onboard mic preamps to sound and behave like the world’s most sought-after tube and solid state preamps.

More than three years in the making, Unison is an exclusive analog/digital integration system that gives the user continuous, realtime, bi-directional control and interplay between Apollo’s physical hardware and UAD software mic preamp models. With Unison, the Apollo mic preamp’s analog impedance, gain stage sweet spots, and component-level circuit behaviors are adjusted in real time prior to analog-to-digital conversion to accurately emulate the target mic preamp model.

“Apollo was designed and built with mic preamp modeling in mind, and has included input impedance switching from the very beginning — every Apollo mic preamp is Unison-ready,” says Universal Audio CEO Bill Putnam Jr. “The UA 610-B Tube Preamp and EQ is the first of many Unison-enabled plug-ins for the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform. It’s included with the new Apollo Twin desktop interface, and will be available for all Apollo customers in Q1.”

Unison features

  • An exclusive analog/digital integration system that’s already built into every Apollo mic preamp
  • Enables Apollo mic preamps to sound and behave like the world’s most sought-after tube and solid state preamps — including their all-important impedance, gain stage sweet spots, and component-level circuit behaviors.
  • Continuous, realtime, bi-directional control and interplay between Apollo’s physical hardware and UAD software preamp model.
  • Requires an Apollo Interface, available from authorized dealers worldwide.

Steinberg discontinues SDK for VST 2 software interface

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Dec 09, 2013 - comment 0 comments
Steinberg VST

Steinberg has announced that they will no longer offer the Software Development Kit (SDK) for VST 2 through the Steinberg website.

“We introduced VST 2 back in 1999 and since then the technology has evolved dramatically. Since 2008, we’ve been providing SDKs for both the newer, third version alongside the older VST 2 format,” comments Timo Wildenhain, product marketing manager at Steinberg.

Steinberg host applications remain VST 2 compatible, but maintenance and technical support for VST 2 officially ended in September. Steinberg wants to focus their efforts entirely on the development of VST 3. The latest SDK renders software in VST 3.x, VST 2.x and AU format.

Timo Wildenhain continues: “The VST interface is extremely popular throughout the world of music production and recording, and the latest enhancements in VST 3.6, such as Inter-App Audio compatibility, pave the way for an even wider acceptance.”
