Tokyo Dawn Labs has announced the final version of Feedback Compressor II, a free compressor effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.
The TDR Feedback Compressor II is a major design update of its critically acclaimed predecessor. The compressor is dedicated to the highest fidelity stereo program (2-buss) compression, but shines equally in classic mixing tasks.
Most modern compressors analyze the input signal to control gain reduction. This is known as a “feed-forward” topology. The TDR Feedback Compressor II, however, analyzes the output. This approach delivers unobtrusive and highly musical compression characteristics which mean the compressor is able to handle complex signals with ease.
Feedback Compressor II has been carefully tuned for intuitive and musical operation for almost every situation.Feedback Compressor II features
- Beautiful “Feed-Back Compression” sound and behavior.
- 64bit floating point precision for all relevant calculations.
- Multi-rate processing structure for highest accuracy, critical operations run up to 8 times the original rate.
- Delta oversampled signal path (bit transparent without processing).
- Three side-chain filter slopes: 3dB/Oct, 6dB/Oct and 12dB/Oct.
- Super fast and natural sounding compression..
- Independent release controls for peak and RMS compression.
- Unique control scheme.
- Crest Factor control.
- Advanced stereo linking options optimized for the stereo bus.
- Delta preview mode. Allows to preview the difference between compressed and original signal.
- Latency compensated parallel bypass (i.e. processing not interrupted).
Feedback Compressor II is a free effect plug-in for Windows and Mac (VST/AU).

Tokyo Dawn Labs has announced beta 8 of its TDR Feedback Compressor II effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.
The TDR Feedback Compressor II is a major design update of its critically acclaimed predecessor. The compressor is dedicated to the highest fidelity stereo program (2-buss) compression, but shines equally in classic mixing tasks.
Changes in Feedback Compressor II beta 8
- Overall CPU load reduced by ~30%.
- Default Side-chain filter slope now 3dB/oct.
- Small graphical improvements (better contrast).
- Fixed a small drawing bug in the reduction meter.
- Minor re-tuning of the 3dB/oct SC filter.
The beta is available to download for Windows and Mac (VST/AU).

Tokyo Dawn Labs has announced beta 4 of the freeware Feedback Compressor II effect plugin.
The TDR Feedback Compressor II is a radical revamp of its critically acclaimed predecessor. The processor elegantly combines the self-adjusting properties of feed-back compression with an advanced, yet musically intuitive control scheme.
Feedback Compressor II beta 4
- Re-built the whole project based on the JUCE library (previously VSTGUI).
- x64 performance issues solved.
- Fixed a bug which corrupted the claim “Bit transparent without processing”.
- Fixed a (practically irrelevant) bug related to an internal re-sampling filter.
- Key Filter selection now via Combo-Box.
- Smooth, fancy LED animations.
- “Peak Mode” is now “Peak Ratio”, was moved to the right and has a new switch graphic.
- Velocity based knobs/sliders.
- “Jump to default value” now via double-click.
The new beta is available to download for Windows (VST). With the move to the JUCE framework, Mac VST and AU is expected in the near future.

Tokyo Dawn Labs and vladg/sound have collaborated to release the Proximity effect plug-in for Windows and Mac, as part of the KVR Developer Challenge 2012.
This plug-in is an easy to use distance “pan-pot” based on several psycho-acoustic models. The idea is to give mixing engineer a reliable tool which allows him to manipulate the “depth” of several sound sources in a straight forward and convincing manner.
Several models can be combined:
- Distance signal delay by speed of sound.
- Distance gain loss.
- Absorption of high-frequencies in air.
- Stereo width manipulation.
- Proximity effect of virtual microphone.
- Distance based early reflections.
All of them can be turned on and off to taste. Distance modulation options extend the creative possibilities even further. Units can be switched from metric (meters) to imperial (inches).
Proximity is available in 32 and 64-bits versions for Windows and Mac (VST/AU).
Tokyo Dawn Records has also announced it is working on also working on a major “TDR Feedback Compressor II” update and a new “TDR Sibilance Controller” plug-in.
TDR Sililance Controller vocal de-esser effect plugin. This is a dedicated vocal de-esser designed for precise and unobtrusive reduction of offending sibilance.
The concept is based on accurate band extraction via linear phase filters (either bell or shelf shaped) and a highly specialized, level-independent sibilance detection algorithm.
Two modes are available, full-band and split-band.

Tokyo Dawn Labs has announced version 1.0.0 of its Feedback Compressor freeware compressor effect plug-in for Windows.
A carefully designed dynamic range compressor. The processor is dedicated to sum/bus compression and is the result of an intensive study about the musical behavior of the feed-back compressor topology. Most modern compressors analyze the input signal to control gain reduction. The feed-back compressor design however “listens” to its output. This non-intuitive approach delivers an unobtrusive and highly musical compression characteristic that is able to handle complex signals with ease.
The TDR Feedback Compressor is carefully tuned for intuitive and musical operation.Feedback Compressor features
- Beautiful “Feed-Back Compression” sound and behavior.
- 64bit floating point precision for all relevant calculations.
- Differential oversampling structure.
- Internal re-sampling via high quality linear phase filters.
- Advanced stereo-linking (reduces audible cross-modulation).
- Adaptive integration time RMS detector. Optional PEAK and tunable RMS detection.
- Freely adjustable compression knee.
- Upward compression mode.
- Optional side-chain 6dB/Oct high-pass and 3dB/Oct energy equalization filters.
- Optional “color” functions.
- Independent release controls for fast and slow program material.
- Delta preview mode. Allows to preview the difference between compressed and original signal.
- Latency compensated parallel bypass (i.e. processing not interrupted).
Feedback Compressor is available as freeware for Windows (32/64-bit VST).
