Voxengo TransGainer

Voxengo has released version 1.5 of TransGainer, a transient adjustment effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

TransGainer allows you to specify positive or negative gain adjustment for a sound’s transient stage. You can also choose an expected average time between transients and transient threshold level so that the algorithm delivers you the most precise results possible. With the help of TransGainer you can pass the border from good to excellent audio recordings.

This updated version 1.5 introduces a new “Precise U” algorithm and now supports VST3.

TransGainer for Windows and Mac (VST/AU) is available to purchase for $79.95 USD.

Review: Goldbaby Dirt and Layers sample pack

Goldbaby Dirt and Layers

Goldbaby’s latest sample pack Dirt and Layers features a collection of samples to enhance your drum and percussion sounds by adding some dirt, layers & more.

The dirt category comprises 140 sounds, including vinyl and tape noise, digital hash, guitar amp and pedal hum and more.

The dirt sounds can add subtle or not so subtle texture to your individual instruments or whole mixes. Add some vinyl noise to give the impression that your instrument was sampled off vinyl. Add some tape noise to make your recordings sound like they were done on tape before noise reduction was invented. Use the damaged cassette noise to fake your cassette sampling skills.

No less than 830 drum layering sounds are found in the layers category. These include kick drum subs, snare top sounds, sucking sounds, transients, and more.

The drum layering sounds are a fantastic tool kit for augmenting and beefing up drum sounds. Give your drums more depth and texture by experimenting with different layers. Boost the bottom end of kicks with tuned subs or add a transient layer to help it cut through a mix. Crispen snares with various top layers or add body and substance using the sauce and body layers.

For instant gratification you can drop one of the 50 loops (REX) in your track to get the authentic, characteristic sounds of vinyl, dirt patterns, etc.

While the pack is clearly designed to enhance your drum sounds and add character to (any) audio, many of the sounds are also great for using as is, or as the basis for further processing. If you like your odd percussion sounds like me, you will be in for a treat. Transient clicks and kick subs are probably best used layered with existing drum sounds, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use them any other way. Hugo also included things like synth fx, random noises and vocoder sounds, so you really have a good variety of sounds.

Maschine and Geist users will be happy to hear that Dirt and Layers includes browser integration for these instruments, so everything is nicely ordered/tagged and good to go right off the bat.

Check this nice video demonstrating how you can use these tools to layer sounds in Maschine.

So what do I think?

Product: Dirt and Layers by Goldbaby
Format: 970 wav samples (24-bit) / 50 REX loops
Price: $29 USD
Like: Excellent tools, top notch sound design, browser integration, Goldbaby quality
Don’t like: –
Verdict: 9/10

I think this is one of Goldbaby’s best sample packs to date. Hugo has always delivered work of the highest quality, but to me Dirt and Layers is a bit special, something like a treasure trove.

Making sure you have good quality source material to work with is really important, but there usually is room for improvement. Dirt and Layers is like a toolbox filled to the brim with the best tools for the job.

Depending on the vibe you are trying to create you will want to add some of those character noises, fatten up your drum sounds, or add some excitement with sound fx type samples. This pack has it all.

And if you like a more experimental sound, you’re going to be using these samples for a lot more than layering or simply adding character. Get your creative juices flowing!

LVC-Audio releases Transector transient design plugin

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Aug 06, 2013 - comment 0 comments

LVC-Audio has introduced Transector, a highly customizable transient designer effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

LVC-Audio Transector
Transient + Dissector = Transector

Transector is a transient design audio plugin, used to attenuate various transient qualities of an audio signal. Use it to boost the initial attack of various instruments, such as adding more crack to a snare or kick drum.

Simultaneously, you can use Transector to alter the decaying portion of audio. This is useful in many situations, such as decreasing the decay of a vocal track, or reducing to amount of room ambiance in drum tracking.

Transector features

  • External side-chain controls.
  • Side-chain filter and solo controls.
  • Separate left- and right-signal transient processing.
  • Mid/side mode with adjustable transient gain amounts.
  • Transient metering.
  • Three separate transient gain stages (attack, sustain, and release).
  • Input metering, output metering, and adjustable waveform history display.

Transector is available to purchase for $31.54 USD.

G-Sonique releases TrebleCream effect plugin

G-Sonique has announced the release of TrebleCream, a mid-treble & transients softening effect plug-in for Windows.

G-Sonique TrebleCream

TrebleCream is new technology with special digital algorithms / virtual circuits inspired by analog electronic structures for achieving really pleasant, creamy mid-trebles and transients without loosing any intensity of mid-high frequencies. TrebleCream will help you remove “harshness” from mix within few seconds.

Treble cream was developed in cooperation with Analog Dimension. Senior mastering engineer of Analog Dimension studios says “More than 50% of mixes that we are receiving has screaming or distorted mid-trebles and or/transients, while rest of mix is relatively good. Sometimes song is 2x louder after mastering because of modern trends and all these negative artifacts (harshness, mid-treble distortion) are logically boosted during mastering, while many people thinks that mastering can fix all mistakes in mix all experienced engineers will tell you that it is not truth. Simply mastering can’t save wrong mix. Many people are using low quality digital compressors, coloring plug-ins, limiters and all these plug-ins are producing distortion on mid-trebles and transients if used unduly.

TrebleCream for Windows (VST) is available to purchase for the introductory price of 18.90 EUR (regular 28.90 EUR).

  • Pristine Space is a native audio VST plugin which allows you to use convolution reverb impulses in your audio projects.
  • TransGainer, an audio plug-in suitable for a wide range of professional music production uses, implements an audio signal envelope adjustment algorithm that reacts on transients rather than on a signal’s loudness level. This algorithm allows you to adjust volume of attack and sustain stages of any sounds you use it on. TransGainer was designed in a way to be suitable for all possible sound sources – be it individual tracks or full mixes.
  • Warmifier is a special plug-in for professional music production applications which processes audio signal in a way similar to analog valve equipment. By using Warmifier you can achieve valve warming and “console” coloration effects.

The group buy voting stage ends July 18th, 2013 (or earlier if 50% discount is reached). Note: voting does not oblige you to purchase said plug-in(s).

Particular releases Euro Munchies Tasty Transients sample pack

Particular Euro Munchies Tasty Transients

Particular has released Tasty Transients, a new Euro Munchies series sample pack featuring 115 Eurorack sequence loops.

In this second installment in the series it’s all about transient and attack rich analogue Eurorack loops. The weirder the better is the decree so slap these onto something in need of something really out of the ordinary – be it four to the floor, downtempo, urban or cinematic.

Design spec here is the exploration of rhythmic and timing possibilities in analogue traditional and Cartesian sequencers and rotating clock dividers in a Eurorack modular system. We did this by feeding clock signals from a DAW and process the resulting sequences in the digital domain – all to retain the magic and weirdness coming from the analogue circuits in sync and under control. Instead of focusing on any specific genre or style of sound the goal here has been to squeeze out the most outlandish sequences possible using high quality analogue oscillators combined with digital wavetable ones, frequency modulation, low pass gates, filters, distortion and frequency shifter among others.

The modular system consists of selected modules from about 20 different brands: Makenoise, 4ms, Cwejman, Doepfer, TipTop audio, Plan B, Intellijel and a Roland system 100 Model 101. Digital realtime processing made mainly through Soundtoys and Fabfilter suites.

The sample library costs £14.95 GBP.
