Spitfire Audio releases BML Bones Vol 1 for Kontakt

Spitfire Audio Bones

Spitfire Audio has announced the release of Bones Vol 1, a new British Modular Library series instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

BONES VOLUME 1, Features two sections; Tenor Trombones and Bass Bones both a2 (in future volumes you’ll get soloists, giving you 3 totally different players of each size on different instruments in different positions when played tutti) played by some of the greatest players on the planet today and recorded at Air Studios, London. Deeply sampled with an essential set of articulations, the most comprehensive set of mic positions all ingeniously scripted for an “it just plays out of the box experience”.

Composers have been travelling the world to come and record in London for many years now, our strings are formidable, alongside our woodwinds and brass. But the bones, well they’re just the backbone of any self respecting brass section! Maybe it’s the colliery tradition, the numerous symphony and chamber orchestras, the three major opera houses, several world class concert halls and 80+ theatre pits and buzzing film business in London alone. It leaves our brass players a cut above the rest of the world.

Bones Volume 1 also features many scripting and sampling innovations developed when producing our seminal Sable and Mural strings ranges and comes with the full feature set and intuitive GUI developed for the whole of the BML range. As you would expect with BML, Bones will feature a comprehensive selection of microphone perspectives and labour saving Jake Jackson mixes. Bones also has some additional expression features including intensity, tightness and control of release triggers to give even more human elements and a further ability to tweak.

The library costs £279 GBP. An introductory discount of 20% is available until March 18th, 2014.

Sample Modeling releases Trombone 3 for Kontakt

Sample Modeling Trombone 3

Sample Modeling has announced the release of Trombone 3, a virtual trombone instrument created by Peter Siedlaczek and Giorgio Tommasini.

The Trombone 3 further expands Samplemodeling™ technologies. Multi-microphone anechoic recording allows to capture the original timbre of the instrument, along with its radiation pattern. Our proprietary “Harmonic Alignment” yields continuous transitions across virtually infinite dynamics. Specially devised “early reflections” impulse responses add proper virtual space to the anechoic sound.

The programming moves further away from conventional libraries, by exploiting physically-oriented modulation of the recorded sound. The result is a playable, very expressive virtual instrument retaining the rich, full sound of a real trombone.

Trombone 3 features

  • New Early Reflections algorithm.
  • Virtual Soundstage, including distance control.
  • Real time Timbral Shaping.
  • Microtuning.
  • Expression Mapping.
  • Breathy Attacks.
  • “For Unison Ensemble” Impulse Response.
  • Unison Ensemble Multi.

Trombone 3 (includes three Tenor, one Valve and one Bass Trombone) is available to purchase for 159 EUR. Trombone 1 owners can purchase the new Trombone 3 for 30 EUR.

In addition, all customers who bought the Trombone 1, whether alone or in a bundle, after June 30th 2013, are entitled to purchase the Trombone 3 for only 20 EUR. Prices excl. VAT.

Spitfire releases Low Brass library for Kontakt

Spitfire Audio BML Low Brass

Spitfire Audio has announced the release of Low Brass, the fifth instalment in its definitive BML (British Modular Library).

Providing you with the most solid foundations for your orchestral palette, Spitfire’s Low Brass celebrates some of the greatest players on the world stage today.

Recorded in Lyndhurst Hall – Air Studios, one of the finest scoring stages in the world, through rarefied vintage valve and ribbon mics, via the unique Neve “Montserrat” pre-amps via a Neve 88R desk onto a pristinely maintained Studer 2″ tape machine and digitised via the finest Prism A-Ds. With a huge host of mic positions to choose from alongside mixes from our chief engineer Jake Jackson: Low Brass offers the definitive edition of these instruments:

THE TUBA – Played by Owen Slade one of the most called-upon session musicians in the country, Owen conjures a beautiful lyricism made from pure Chocolate, to monstrous side ripping lows and gentle and warm humorous parps.

THE CONTRABASS TROMBONE – Wagner Strauss and Schoenberg are some composers who put this instrument through its paces, however, Samuel Adler in his book “The Study Of Orchestration” rather flippantly remarked “Since the contrabass trombone taxes the performer so greatly, we advise not to write for the instrument…” Pah to that! London has a handful of fine players and in this library we have the finest.

THE CIMBASSO – Or Verdi Trombone Basso. Until recent times quite a rarefied instrument, now making a come back on many of the big studio picture scores. In it’s lower dynamic range it’s not unlike a Tuba. But it’s not this that we’re looking for with a Cimbasso, for the real character of the instrument is in its upper dynamics and Cuivre style of playing. For therein lies a sound that could have sprung straight out of a Hieronymus Bosch painting.

CIMBASSO A2 – As above but with 2 two different players playing at the same time. Combine the two patches and you have three Verdi trombone bassos!

The library is available to purchase for the introductory price of £184 GBP for a limited time (regular RRP £245 GBP). Subject to VAT in the EU. Requires full version of Kontakt v4.2.4 or higher.

Native Instruments releases Session Horns for Kontakt

Native Instruments Session Horns

Native Instruments has introduced Session Horns, a new Kontakt instrument that features the sound of a four-piece horn section.

Notable for its pristine and authentic sound, SESSION HORNS is designed to allow producers of all levels access to high quality horns, and includes a number of features that make it a highly creative and usable tool for a large variety of musical styles.

SESSION HORNS is based on four meticulously sampled instruments: a tenor sax, a trombone and two trumpets, playable either as a standard instrument or using the included musical phrases. All instruments were sampled in a wide range of articulations, including specific samples to reproduce the authentic sound of typical legato horn lines. Furthermore, the unique Smart Voice Split automatically allocates each note of a chord to the corresponding brass instrument, just as an arranger would. This results in a realistic, professional sound that avoids the ‘cluster’ effect that plagues many software-based horn productions.

The detailed sample base was used to construct over 170 ultra-flexible playable phrases, which draw their inspiration from contemporary pop, funk, reggae, indie, and neo soul productions, and are suited for use in a variety of production contexts. The Animator in SESSION HORNS provides producers with an inventive tool for jamming ideas and coming up with musical phrases. Using one hand to play a chord and selecting phrases with the other will generate harmonic horn accompaniments in real time, without the need for advanced production or composition experience.

Developed by renowned sampling specialists e-instruments, SESSION HORNS is a KONTAKT Instrument that can be used either in KONTAKT 5 or the free KONTAKT 5 Player. It joins SESSION STRINGS and SESSION STRINGS PRO in offering professional sounding studio ensembles that put usability first.

Session Horns is available to purchase for $119 USD / 99 EUR.
