Native Instruments releases Supercharger GT compressor plugin

Native Instruments Supercharger GT

Native Instruments has announced the release of Supercharger GT, compressor inspired by the rich, tube-driven sound of a boutique hardware unit.

A feature-rich follow-up to the SUPERCHARGER compressor released in December 2013, SUPERCHARGER GT goes beyond modern tube compression by adding dedicated Saturation and Character modes and additional controls for complete sonic fine-tuning.

SUPERCHARGER GT was designed for simple yet comprehensive sound shaping.
Producers can quickly dial in a wide range of compression effects using a single ‘Compress’ knob. The effect’s automatic make-up gain allows them to stay focused on the sound of the effect without having to compensate for the drop in volume compression can sometimes cause.
Pre-set Attack and Release settings provide a starting point for setting SUPERCHARGER GT’s response to incoming signals – producers can start with Punch, Gentle, and Slam modes. Dedicated Attack and Release controls allow an additional degree of fine-tuning.

Aside from compression, SUPERCHARGER GT also delivers a set of tone-shaping controls that make it more than just a compressor effect. A ‘Saturation’ knob with Mild, Crisp, and Slam saturation types give users three ways to add harmonic content to their tracks. At lower settings, SUPERCHARGER GT offers subtle harmonic enhancement. At more extreme settings it delivers raw, distorted coloration. The ‘Character’ knob can fill in missing low end and smooth out unruly high frequencies with Fat, Warm, and Aggressive character modes adding to its versatility.
Furthermore, a mid/side mode lets producers create space in a mix by applying the effect only to the left and right sides of a signal – perfect for adjusting stereo imaging. A detector high pass prevents unruly low end signals from mis-triggering the compressor. Combined, these features provide producers dynamic control, warmth, and sonic shaping in one convenient plug-in.

Supercharger GT is available to purchase for $99 USD/99 EUR/£89 GBP. Owners of Supercharger can upgrade for a special price of $49 USD/49 EUR/£42 GBP.

Sontronics launches ARIA valve condenser microphone

Sontronics ARIA

Sontronics has announced the launch of its new ARIA valve condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid pattern, designed by Sontronics founder Trevor Coley specifically for getting the best from your vocals.

The Sontronics ARIA will give you stunning results on every male or female vocal recording, thanks to its silky-smooth characteristics, its accurate response and Sontronics’ trademark smooth high-frequency roll-off. Housed inside the chromed grille is a large, 1.07-inch, edge-terminated capsule that captures all the detail and subtleties of any male or female vocal, while the hand-selected European 12AX7/ECC83 tube lends a character that you’d expect to find in a classic vintage valve mic costing many times more. For that extra level of control, the accompanying SPS-2 power supply unit boasts pad (0, -10dB) and filter (linear, 75Hz) switches as well as a tube-ready LED, letting you know when the mic is warmed up and at its best to record.

“I’ve been working on the concept of a vocal-specific valve mic for a long time,” explains designer Trevor Coley, “and the ARIA is the culmination of months of research and beta-testing, which I’ve been lucky enough to do with some incredibly talented musicians and producers. The result is a go-to microphone that really is a must-have for anyone serious about achieving the best, smoothest, warmest possible results from any vocal recording. Sontronics ARIA really will take your breath away!”

During the past 12 months of ARIA’s development, the mic has been beta-tested by top artists and musicians including Oscar- and Grammy-winning producer/writer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & The Machine, Paul McCartney), Mercury award-winning singer/songwriter PJ Harvey, and also several engineers at Abbey Road Studios, all of whom now admit they can’t live without their ARIAs! These and other users have all told us that ARIA’s sound and quality is easily matched to mics (both modern and vintage) that cost ten times more.

The ARIA microphone is supplied in its own velvet-lined wooden box, which comes in an aluminium flightcase together with its elastic spider-style shockmount, a ring mount and the SPS-2 power supply and connecting cable. Like all Sontronics mics, the ARIA is covered by Sontronics’ LIFETIME WARRANTY.

The Sontronics ARIA is available to purchase for £899 GBP (inc. VAT) / 899 EUR (plus tax) / $1,199 USD.

Universal Audio announces Unison technology – Classic analog mic preamps for Apollo

Universal Audio

Universal Audio has announced its Unison technology, an audio processing breakthrough that enables the popular Apollo Audio Interfaces’ onboard mic preamps to sound and behave like the world’s most sought-after tube and solid state preamps.

More than three years in the making, Unison is an exclusive analog/digital integration system that gives the user continuous, realtime, bi-directional control and interplay between Apollo’s physical hardware and UAD software mic preamp models. With Unison, the Apollo mic preamp’s analog impedance, gain stage sweet spots, and component-level circuit behaviors are adjusted in real time prior to analog-to-digital conversion to accurately emulate the target mic preamp model.

“Apollo was designed and built with mic preamp modeling in mind, and has included input impedance switching from the very beginning — every Apollo mic preamp is Unison-ready,” says Universal Audio CEO Bill Putnam Jr. “The UA 610-B Tube Preamp and EQ is the first of many Unison-enabled plug-ins for the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform. It’s included with the new Apollo Twin desktop interface, and will be available for all Apollo customers in Q1.”

Unison features

  • An exclusive analog/digital integration system that’s already built into every Apollo mic preamp
  • Enables Apollo mic preamps to sound and behave like the world’s most sought-after tube and solid state preamps — including their all-important impedance, gain stage sweet spots, and component-level circuit behaviors.
  • Continuous, realtime, bi-directional control and interplay between Apollo’s physical hardware and UAD software preamp model.
  • Requires an Apollo Interface, available from authorized dealers worldwide.

Pentode audio releases VTC-1 vacuum tube compressor

Pentode Audio VTC-1

Pentode audio has announced VTC-1, a vacuum tube compressor effect plugin for Windows.

VTC-1 is special analog modeled virtual VST compressor with warm analog, fat pumping and transparent sound.

Compared to modern compressors PENTODE AUDIO VTC-1 has different inner structure and principle of work: VTC-1 don’t have threshold knob, so you set amount of compression by increasing or decreasing input level same like with old analog tube compressors. Compression amount knob is similar to ratio knob at modern compressors. You can select two curves of compression with switch: significant compression or smooth curve. If you prefer fat/massive sound you can boost input signal of vacuum tubes by turning tube drive knob.

If you want some real sounding analog color to your digital records and characteristic yet transparent compression feel free to try demo version of VTC-1.

VTC-1 features

  • Compression amount knob.
  • Standard attack and release knobs with analog modeled behavior.
  • Input knob that control amount of compression / level of compression.
  • Compression amount knob (similar to ratio selector).
  • Switch: significant compression (hard curve) or smooth curve (soft curve).
  • Tube drive knob for real sounding analog warmth and saturation.
  • Post-gain knob.
  • Bypass knob and gain reduction meter.

The plugin is available to purchase for Windows (VST) priced at 17.17 EUR.
