Slate Digital has launched Virtual Buss Compressors, a plug-in suite comprising three unique sounding, 100% analog modeled dynamic processors that are ideal for program material.

Slate Digital Virtual Buss Compressors
Every nuance of real analog compressors has been modeled; including the exact nonlinear characteristics of their transformers, tubes, VCAs, amplifiers, phase distortions, harmonic distortions, and timing.

Virtual Buss Compressors contains 3 models of some of the industry’s most sought after analog gear.

The FG-GREY is a replication of the classic British console compressor, with some fat sounding transformers added in to beef up the low end. The GREY will give your mix that classic glue and punch that you’ve heard on so many hits!

The FG-RED is a replication of the classic RED mixbuss compressor that has been used for decades by some of the world’s top mixers. It sounds tight, punchy, and has rich harmonics from the output transformers.

The FG-MU is a hybrid of several tube compressor designs that is lush, warm, fat, and open sounding. The MU will give your mix tons of depth and analog vibe!

Each compressor also includes a hi pass filter and parallel mix wet/dry knob for ultimate flexibility! Finally, some of the most common professional presets have been added to each compressor to get you started quickly!

Virtual Buss Compressors features

  • 3 Unique 100% Analog Modeled Buss Compressors.
  • Precisely emulated circuit paths including amplifiers and transformers.
  • Tons of classic presets used by top mix engineers.
  • Available as a rack or individual plugins.
  • 2 Activations per user.

The VBC bundle is available for $199 USD, including a free iLok 2 until July 12th, 2013.

Tronsonic releases Kork M500 Micro Preset for Kontakt

Tronsonic Kork M500 Micro Preset

Tronsonic has launched Kork M500 Micro Preset, a virtual synthesizer instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.

I tried to get it as close (both visually and audibly) as I could to the original late 70s preset synth (as used by OMD on many records), and also added a few extra features like polyphony and a tape compression and damage effect.

In order to maintain the purity of the waveforms, I chose not to sample to tape (hence the ‘tape fx’ section), but used valves and a chain of nearly 100 year old interstage transformers to capture the audio.

All of the presets are selectable via the interface (as with the real synth), as well as the effects/edit section under the red button.

As you can see, the tape input gain and warmth settings are also controllable via dedicated attack and decay envelopes, enabling a very accurate emulation of ‘hitting’ the tape, and its compression effects. The random gain, warmth and tone are also synced to the tape speed frequency knob, which controls the wow and flutter.

The Kork M500 Micro Preset library is available at the introductory price of £11.99 GBP until June 29th, 2013 (20% off regular).

SPL TwinTube features

  • Authentic plug-in version of the world-class SPL TwinTube tube effects processor.
  • Adds analog tube warmth, saturation and harmonic distortion to instruments and vocals.
  • Boosts presence and spatial imaging without increasing overall dynamic range.
  • Easy, intuitive interface and simple workflow.
  • Developed for the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform by SPL.

SKnote introduces Somma and Ferro hardware units & MCAudioLab EQ1 plugin

SKnote has launched Somma and Ferro, two hardware audio processor units.

SKnote Somma

Built around the old “analog computing” technique, Somma is designed to provide deep control on the dynamic harmonic content of audio tracks, stems, mixes, masters.

Somma features eight balanced input channels with individual saturation model selection (six independent configurations available on each channel) and saturation level controls, providing deep control on the amount of dynamic harmonic enhancement and on the behavior of each channel.

Somma features

  • Eight input channels (linkable as four stereo pairs), expandable.
  • Balanced or unbalanced input and output stages.
  • Second and third harmonic saturation.
  • Individual controls for each channel (saturation curve, saturation amount).
  • Texture controls on the master stereo bus (low band for punch, high band for air).
  • Independent saturation and volume controls for the master stereo bus.

Ferro is a stereo parallel air EQ.

SKnote Ferro

Including a fully discrete signal path and input and output transformers, Ferro is a passive stereo device (no mains) that dynamically adds mid and high frequency range presence, weight and open-ness to tracks, stems, mixes and masters.

Including custom inductors and transformers, Ferro also features a switchable inter-channel (left-right) coupling control to set the amount of galvanically insulated interaction between the channels, happening in the selected range.

Ferro features

  • Completely passive, custom inductors and transformers.
  • One stereo or two mono channels.
  • Parallel dynamic equalisation.
  • Six band-selections available for each channel.
  • Input and output transformers bypass individual controls.
  • 100% wet switch for parallel processing.
  • True-bypass switches.
  • Inter-channel crosstalk control for the selected frequency band.

Somma and Ferro are available to purchase for the introductory Musikmesse price of $799 USD / $499 USD respectively. DIY kits are $649 USD / $449 USD. Prices ex taxes and shipping.

SKnote has also released the MCAudioLab EQ1, a passive equalizer effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

SKnote MCAudioLab EQ1
MCAudioLab EQ1 SKnote Plugin – Solid State and Tube power supply edition.

A pultec-style equaliser, with tube output stage, solid state and tube power supply options.
It includes two stacked units for linked or dual control, plus a special 1U device with boosting (driving the inputs), and switchable Left-Right and Mid-Side matrix mode.

The emulation also includes both power supplies options, solid state and tube, independently switchable for each single unit.

The MCAudioLab EQ1 for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS) costs $29.99 USD. It is free with the purchase of a hardware unit from MCAudioLab.
