u-he

u-he has launched a new public beta of its plug-ins.

As these builds have probably reached a state that is more stable than our official releases, I would like to push them through testing/public beta/release candidates as soon as possible.

Changes in rev 2242

  • Hopefully fixed crash bug in Bitwig on MacOS X (was a Cocoa drawing issue).
  • Put full Mousewheel support back into VST2.
  • Fixed All Notes Off issue with Zebra (abrupt releases).
  • Fixed Pan/Vol Mod Labels in ZebraCM.
  • Fixed MIDI Unlearn in AAX / Pro Tools.
  • Reworked Mac Installers with Apple recommended ownerships (System/Admin).
  • Correct Satin 1.1 user guide.
  • Added full resolution to 7-bit MIDI Learn.
  • Moved Runciter from Example to Harmonic category in PT.
  • Added host/os/bitdepth/plug-in format to logging facility.
  • Correct UI size for Satin in Live 32-bit VST.
  • Fixed erratic parameter loopback in Satin (possibly fixing a lot of random issues).

The new public beta versions of ACE, Diva, Filterscape, MFM2, Podolski, Satin, Triple Cheese, Uhbik, Zebra and ZebraCM are now available to download at the u-he forum at KVR Audio.

Red Ochsenbein releases Cinematic Pulses for Zebra

Related: , , , Posted in news on Apr 10, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Red Ochsenbein has announced the release of Cinematic Pulses, a new soundset for the Zebra synthesizer instrument by u-he.

Red Ochsenbein Cinematic Pulses

Cinematic Pulses is a collection of 80 sounds for U-he Zebra2 which aim at modern cinematic and hybrid scoring. Rhythmic pad sounds, accentuated arpeggios and propelling bass lines offer everything necessary for a pulsing underscore that creates a vibrant feeling.

The sounds are designed with modern cinematic scoring in mind, but they work great for any electronic and hybrid style.

Every patch is reacting to the modulation wheel adding more colors to the palette.

The soundset is available for $20 USD.

u-he

u-he has released revision 2228 of its plug-ins, including Satin, DIVA, Zebra, and ACE.

These hopefully fix the most pressing issues. We know of some bugs with VST3 and you better don’t automate parameters with an LFO in Bitwig.

Changes in rev 2228

  • should really fix AAX (autosave) crash bug for good.
  • added missing buttons/drop down graphics to Filterscape.
  • fixed missing Sync button in ZebraCM.
  • fixed possible crash in VST.
  • fixed automation-stops-when-editor-opens bug in Live/Bitwig.
  • reworked Mac Installers (solve permissions issue?).
  • updated Filterscape, Satin user guide.
  • changed initial open/close laws for preset folder.

Rev 2228 is available to download from the u-he forum at KVR Audio.

3ee Sound Design releases Battery Leak for Zebra

Related: , Posted in news on Apr 07, 2014 - comment 2 comments

3ee Sound Design has announced the release of Battery Leak, a new soundset for the Zebra synthesizer instrument from u-he.

3ee Sound Design Battery Leak

Battery Leak is a collection of 64 instruments inspired by the crunchy-smooth character of DCO synths such as the Roland Alpha Juno and dense digital timbres reminiscent of PPG wavetables, upgraded with a modern edge via Zebra’s oscillator capabilities ranging in tones from detailed multi-PWM, rich hard-sync sounds and silky superwaves to solid EDM/rave with borderline chiptune crunch.

Battery Leak features

  • 64 patches created by 3ee for u-he Zebra.
  • Optimized with modulation wheel and after-touch control assignments + all XY performance controls accurately fine-tuned for all patches.
  • XY performance controls in particular will significantly change the sound in most cases, so the patches can easily be adapted to your project or doubled in number.

The soundset is available at a price of your choice (starting at $9 USD). A free pack of patches from the set can be download from the product page.

Introduction to ACE part 2 by Dan Worrall

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Apr 03, 2014 - comment 1 comment

u-he has launched the second part in a series of tutorial videos by Dan Worrall on the ACE virtual modular synthesizer instrument for Windows and Mac.

ACE belongs to a new generation of synthesizers developed with the latest, fastest computers in mind. ACE offers classic modular synthesis and more at a fraction of the cost of dedicated hardware. But like its hardware forebears, you can patch any output into any input: the number of different ways to connect modules together is practically infinite. Needless to say, you will never run out of cables!

ACE for Windows and Mac (VST/AU) is available to purchase for 69 EUR.

Coincidental Music releases Textur for ACE + Spring Fever Sale

Coincidental Music Textur

Coincidental Music has launched Textur, a collection of 64 patches for the ACE modular synthesizer instrument by u-he.

What can I say about ACE? It gives my ears pleasure in the same way that a Mini Moog used to. It encourages exploration and experimentation in an immediate way that most subtractive synths can’t match. And it’s so rich and responsive that you can really get in deep and fine tune sounds. Three cheers for the shift key!

These patches are the result of 18 months of happy exploration with ACE. I’ve made efforts to make them playable even on modest machines, and this means that many of them can be played as keyboard sounds without too much regard for the consequences.

You’ll find a good number of pads, ranging from bright, ethereal sounds to dark, atonal drones. There are bells, soundscapes, keys and organs, and a smattering of FX, leads and percussion.

The soundset is available for the introductory price of £5 GBP until April 8th, 2014 (regular £6 GBP).

Coincidental Music is also offering a discount on its After Hours (100 patches for AAS Lounge Lizard EP-4) and Prism Sticks (150 patches for AAS Chromaphone) soundsets until April 8th.

Review: Bronto Scorpio Dimensions soundset for Diva

Bronto Scorpio Dimensions

Dennis of Bronto Scorpio Music has recently released Dimensions, a soundset for the Diva virtual analog synthesizer instrument by u-he.

The goal was to take the limited structure of Diva and get the most out of it using various little tricks.

The result is 64 new patches, which range from classic synth to more modern, futuristic and even somewhat experimental sounds.

Here’s a breakdown of the patches:

  • 9 Arps
  • 9 Bass
  • 8 Chords
  • 6 Drums
  • 7 FX
  • 10 Pads
  • 5 Plucks
  • 10 Synth

The patches make good use of modwheel, aftertouch, pitchbend, etc. so those who play the keyboard well will benefit from a good dynamic range.

I had a short run through the patches, so check the video below to get an idea of what you can expect from Dimensions.

So what do I think?

Product: Dimensions by Bronto Scorpio
Format: Patches for u-he DIVA
Price: 10 EUR
Like: Fantastic chords & pads, very dynamic, great value for money
Don’t like: –
Verdict: 9/10

Dennis managed to bundle quite a lovely set of patches into this bank. Within these 64 patches there is a good amount of variety, and every single sound is very well designed. It seems that synths like Diva tend to bring out the best in sound designers.

While all patches are really good, the chords and pads are my favorites. There are some absolute gems in there, good for instant inspiration.

At just 10 euros I think Dimensions is a no-brainer. You can hardly go wrong, but if you’re still not sure if this set is for you, make sure to check out the 10 free demo patches available from the Bronto Scorpio website.
