Orange Tree Samples releases Pure Jazz Vibes for Kontakt

Orange Tree Samples Pure Jazz Vibes

Orange Tree Samples has launched Pure Jazz Vibes, a virtual vibraphone instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

We developed Pure Jazz Vibes in collaboration with Chris Poehler of Lujon Audio, who arranged and oversaw the entire sample recording as well as contributing his invaluable expertise to the production of the sample library itself. One of our top priorities for Pure Jazz Vibes was getting a pristine, yet natural vibraphone tone. We auditioned several vibraphones, finally selecting a 70′s Musser Century Vibraphone due to its classic, warm tone. The Musser vibraphone is a legendary instrument, extensively used by vibraphone masters such as Gary Burton, Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, Mike Mainieri, and many others.

The vibraphone recording session was engineered by Michael Aarvold at the WaterSound Productions studio in the heart of Studio City, California. Regarding the choice of WaterSound’s studio to record the vibraphone samples, Michael says, “It has an exceptionally well-designed live room: the room maintains life and air in the sound, yet doesn’t superimpose a distinctive and undesirable sonic signature. It is also extremely quiet, which is very important when recording delicate textures and maintaining a room aspect to the sound.”

Pure Jazz Vibes features

  • Over 8 GB total 24-bit 48khz samples (uncompressed).
  • 4 dynamic layers, up to 7x round-robin, chromatically sampled.
  • Separately controllable close, mid, and far mic positions.
  • Modeled tremolo with adjustable speed and depth.

The sample library is available to purchase for the introductory price of $99 USD until February 28th, 2014 (regular $129 USD).

VST Buzz offer 40% off Cool Vibes Jazz library for Kontakt

Art Vista Cool Vibes

VST Buzz has launched a promotion on Cool Vibes, offering a 40% discount on the virtual instrument library for Kontakt 5 by Art Vista.

Cool Vibes is a sample library of the Yamaha 3 1/2 octave Gold Tour Vibes played with soft mallets and with the motor engaged, allowing a true acoustic tremolo and full tube resonance to be recorded. It delivers the classic “cool” sound for a jazz combo, and the tremolo speed was calibrated to match the speed used by Milt Jackson of Modern Jazz Quartet. Eight presets are included with three stereo perspectives.

If you’re looking for the genuine Jazz vibraphone sound, this is the sample library for you. Sound on Sound reviewed it and said: “Art Vista have certainly squeezed the last drop of versatility out of this library, and, for those who want the unmistakable sound of real vibes, I’ve not heard better.”

The library is available from VST Buzz for $59 USD until December 3rd, 2013.

Soniccouture releases Vibraphone for Kontakt

Soniccouture Vibraphone

Soniccouture has announced the release of Vibraphone, a virtual instrument library for Kontakt & Kontakt Player.

Essentially a mechanised, 20th Century variation on the classic metallaphone, the vibraphone adds a constant modulation to its resonator tubes by the use of motorised fans.

The fans, or discs, cover the top of the resonator tube and spin in unison, allowing full or partial function of the resonator tube depending on which point of the cycle the motor is in.

The resulting tone is a type of tremolo effect – shimmering, golden, & very wobbly indeed; due to all resonators modulating together and thus aggregating the effect on the decaying notes.

Instruments that use this kind of global modulation (the Hammond C3/leslie is a similar example) are traditionally impossible to sample & model realistically, because if you record a single note with the tremolo active, it will be completely out of sync with all subsequent notes you record. Previous attempts to sample the vibraphone usually resorted to sampling the instrument with the motor/tremolo switched off, then approximating the effect later using filters modulated by an LFO to effect the change in timbre.

Soniccouture Vibraphone takes a completely new approach – by sampling the entire instrument twice. Once with the fans closed, once with them fully open, both times completely static – the motor switched off.

Once we have the full vibraphone sound sampled in both states – fans closed and fans open – we can then simply crossfade between them in Kontakt using a simple sinusoidal LFO. This gives not only the authentic, detailed timbre, but also full control over the speed of the tremolo, another essential element of the instrument missing from previous renderings.

Soniccouture Vibraphone

Vibraphone features

  • Kontakt Player Compatible.
  • 3,864 samples, 24bit 96khz Stereo Sampling.
  • 15GB Library (8GB with NCW compression).
  • True Tremolo Modelling.
  • 3.5 octaves: 41 notes, from C2 to F5.
  • 23 Velocity Layers.
  • Damped and undamped samples.
  • Intelligent Round Robin Mapping.

Rattly And Raw launches Kontakt Sample instruments

Rattly And Raw has launched with the release of, The First Incarnation, Cold War Listening Station, The Marxophone and Student Vibraphone, 4 new virtual instruments for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Dirty, cheap, cranky, crusty little gems to fill those cracks in your productions. These instruments are designed to be ‘that little extra thing’ that so many tracks end up needing.

In the real world, most of these instruments have maybe only a few playable notes or at best a limited range! Rattly And Raw have greatly expanded the playability and range of these original instruments by using state of the art time stretching software and meticulously hand tuning each mechanism.

The emphasis here is on imperfection and character. These instruments are not posh, and not slick, but they might inspire new directions or augment what you already have in surprising ways. The unique sound of these samples comes from the instruments themselves, not from additional processing! That being said… on most instruments we’ve included a LoFi button and a processing knob or two that will let you dirt ‘em up a little more…

We’re starting with four products: The First Incarnation, Cold War Listening Station, The Marxophone and Student Vibraphone.

The First Incarnation

Rattly & Raw The First Incarnation

The First Incarnation is a collection of sixteen rattly, scratchy, dirty, plucked, scraped, pressed and smacked, unusual Rattly and Raw instruments!

The instruments have all come from quirky shops and chance meetings and have been used on many sessions by the Rattly and Raw team.*This pack contains unusual and rare instruments like the Rheem Key Bass, Taishokoto, Appalachian Dulcimer, Pitched Cowbells, Plucked Piano and Zither strings and MUCH MUCH MORE!

As a further introductory offer The First Incarnation also comes with our Rattly and Raw percussion instrument (88 keys of percussion and drum hits with velocity management and LoFi processing) FOR FREE!

The First Incarnation costs £20 GBP.

Cold War Listening Station

Rattly & Raw Cold War Listening Station

Cold War Listening Station contains massive percussion hits, calamitous found material impacts and bizarre instruments, all soaked in the huge paranoid reverberations from this monstrous facility. We took in sound making devices and used what was there as well, the results are definitely unusual!

These were all recorded on location at an abandoned listening station hidden in central europe. Our intrepid sampling team overcame wild dogs, lurking strangers, rats, guards and creeping terror to bring you these unique sounds! It was a massive challenge to get clean enough decay tails on these huge and spooky sounds as this abandoned station was open in parts to the elements (which brought its own challenges) and also every tiny noise was amplified massively by the architecture!! As a result, this uniquely disjarring and sonically intriguing pack is the result of luck, stealth and opportunism and signal to noise management!

The First Incarnation costs £10 GBP.

Marxophone

Rattly & Marxophone

The Marxophone contains one lovingly sampled original marxophone with multiple layers and velocity sensitive trill action (as well as multiple instruments with different performance options!) It’s a very distinctive sound and one you’ll probably recognise!

This also has a custom velocity management script to really aid playability and control of the trill function and a LoFi script with drive control to take this unique instrument to some new places! We’ve also included ELEVEN variations on the standard Marxophone instrument.

The First Incarnation costs £10 GBP.

Student Vibraphone

Rattly & Student Vibraphone

This short-scale student vibraphone has a unique attacky, clanky goodness that we had to share! Great for getting that vibes sound across with no trace of ‘posh’ or ‘refined’ at all!

There are a few instrument options here so you can get a good range of sounds from this limited, but very usable instrument!

The First Incarnation costs £10 GBP.

A bundle of all 4 Kontakt libraries is available to purchase for the introductory price of £30 GBP.

Rattly And Raw has also released The Toms, a free multi-sampled kit of toms

Rattly & Raw The Toms

ELEVEN in total – all recorded and treated the Rattly and Raw way!

These are far away from slick modern tom sounds. Think cranky, honky and imperfect!

This pack has a custom velocity management script to aid use with different e-drums or other controllers and a LoFi control section too so you can smash em into tiny pieces!!

The Toms pack is a free download from the Rattly And Raw store page (scroll to bottom of page).
