ILIO announces Vienna MIR Pro 24 + 20% off Vienna MIR RoomPacks

ILIO has announced Vienna MIR Pro 24, a special version of Vienna MIR PRO with a maximum of 24 instruments and ensembles that can be placed on its virtual stages. Apart from this limitation, Vienna MIR PRO 24 includes the full set of features and options of Vienna MIR PRO, at half the price.

Vienna MIR Pro 24

Vienna MIR PRO 24 is a network-capable mixing solution for Mac and PC, based on Multi Impulse Response convolution. Its direct connection with Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 allows for a seamless integration with any audio production environment. Each audio signal can be routed into Vienna MIR PRO 24 and delivered in stereo, or in various surround formats on up to 8 output channels after processing.

Vienna MIR PRO 24 merges all parts of the creative process – composition, orchestration and mixing – into a single intuitive workflow. The software offers a holistic approach to the spatial modeling of virtual orchestras, allowing the user to interact with the players more like a conductor than an engineer. Its innovative multi-parameter Control Icon replaces conventional faders and pan pots and offers concise control for positioning each instrument on the virtual stage, changing its volume and stereo width, and even rotating it within a fluid three-dimensional environment.

Vienna MIR PRO 24 combines specific directional frequency profiles with reflection information from every instrument, assembling all of the acoustic interactions into an accurate recreation of musicians playing their instruments in place and in space. Vienna MIR PRO 24 is much more than just “a multi-sample” of a hall – and this is where it far surpasses any other convolution reverb available on the market. Vienna MIR PRO 24 is multi-source, multi-directional, multi-positional, and multi-format.

Vienna MIR PRO 24 comes with 11,000 impulse responses from four halls in the famous Vienna Konzerthaus, plus its grand foyer. Further RoomPacks offering recording studios, sound stages (e.g., Teldex Berlin), and churches are available as optional downloads.

VSL Vienna Instruments PRO 2

Vienna Symphonic Library has released Vienna Instruments PRO 2, a major update of the software sample player for Windows and Mac.

New features include the powerful APP sequencer, auto humanization, enveloped time stretching, automatic cell naming, enabling/disabling of cells and an option to adjust the sample preload buffer size.

Changes in Vienna Instruments PRO 2

  • APP Sequencer – The internal Auto-Playback and Pattern Sequencer offers a vast variety of orchestral patterns and voicings. Trigger rhythmic patterns, runs and accompanying arrangements of the whole orchestra at the touch of a single key!
  • New Presets and Matrices – Take advantage of the APP Sequencer and load hundreds of preconfigured chords, phrases and patterns.
  • Enabling/Disabling of Cells – Load huge presets with hundreds of articulations in no time, and without taxing your RAM. Specific articulations get loaded only when you “enable” their cells with a simple double-click. Disable cells to clear samples from RAM, while keeping all patch settings intact.
  • Auto Cell Naming – Easily identify all loaded articulations by their cell names.
  • Auto Humanization – Assign appropriate performance accuracy settings to all of your loaded articulations at once.
  • Enveloped Time Stretching – Easily determine which part of an articulation should be manipulated and adjust the speed of a portamento or the attack of a staccato.
  • SSD ready – Load 10 times more samples into your RAM, 10 times faster, by reducing the sample preload buffer size when using Solid State Drives.
  • Scale Editor – Change the pitch of specific notes of your scales to customize your microtunings.
  • Extended Instrument Ranges – Extend the range of each articulation up to two whole tones (both in the high and low register) by simply grabbing the handles on the virtual keyboard.

Vienna Instruments PRO 2 is available to purchase for the introductory price of EUR 125 through December 15, 2011 (regular 145 EUR). Registered users of Vienna Instruments PRO may download the new version from the Vienna Symphonic Library website, free of charge.

Time+Space sponsors Exeter Classical Music Event

Time+Space has partnered with composer Ondrej Pochyly for the Exeter Classical Music Event, a classical music performance with a very modern twist.

Time+Space Exeter Classical Music Event with Ondrej Pochyly

Devon-based composer Ondrej Pochyly will be breaking technological and musical ground this Saturday at the Exeter Classical Music Event with a special orchestral display that is set to have audiences captivated.

Following the loss of his mother to pancreatic cancer two years ago, Ondrej began working on ‘Requiem for the Lost’ an hour-long piece of classical music which relays the tragic story of a cancer victim and their family – from the diagnosis, through to treatment, re-diagnosis, death and the aftermath.

But what makes this different to any other orchestral composition is that the piece has been created entirely with music software and will be performed live with Ondrej controlling the tempo and dynamics of the virtual instruments with Nintendo Wii remotes.

UK soundware distributor, Time+Space, who are official partners of the event and will be exhibiting on the day, provided most of the virtual instruments and software for the Logic-based set-up which includes Cinesamples VOXOS Epic Virtual Choir, Audio Bro’s LA Scoring Strings and Vienna Symphonic Library’s Vienna Suite, Ensemble Pro and Vienna Brass.

Speaking about the event, Ondrej said, “I believe that this project shows that technology and art can work together on creating new and exciting performances. This is not meant to replace orchestras but rather compliment them and I hope the public will enjoy this act for what it is. An emotional piece of art.”

The Requiem is just one of a series of performances organised by Ondrej as part of the Exeter Classical Music Event which is funded by both the National Lottery Arts Council and Exeter City Council. In addition to live performances from a variety of orchestras and musical projects, the event will also see the launch of a competition that invites young composers between the ages of 16 and 25 to create their own composition. The winner, to be announced in January next year, will win £500 and will get the chance to work alongside Ondrej to have their piece produced with virtual instruments and performed at next year’s event.

The Exeter Classical Music Event takes place this Saturday 2nd July between 11:00am and 11:00pm in the courtyard of Exeter Castle. Entry is free but donations are gratefully received with a percentage of the proceeds going towards Marie Curie Cancer Care.

A video presentation about the set-up for the Requiem plus a full schedule of the day’s events can be found at www.timespace.com/events

Vienna Symphonic Library announces Vienna Dimension Brass

Vienna Symphonic Library Vienna Dimension Brass

Vienna Symphonic Library has announced Vienna Dimension Brass, a new sample library featuring brass instruments.

Vienna Dimension Brass gives an entirely new meaning to the term multi-samples. These instruments were recorded in a very unique way at Vienna’s famed Silent Stage. While every note was played by a well-rehearsed ensemble of four brass players, each instrument was recorded separately, which allows you to access each voice individually. Still, they sound like an ensemble and not like four soloists, whether playing in unison, divisi, or even in four-part harmony.

Vienna Dimension Brass comes with the free Vienna Instruments player. To make the most of these unique multi-dimensional samples, we recommend using Vienna Instruments PRO (a fully functional demo version is included in the box). Its auto-divisi mode automatically splits voices between players, and the tailor-made Humanize Presets let you easily control the performance accuracy of your virtual musicians in real-time, at the single touch of a fader – from subtle tuning and timing variations to heavy cluster effects.

Vienna Dimension Brass is available at the introductory price $625 USD until February 15, 2011. The library will start shipping on January 17, 2011.
