Waves has introduced the dbx 160 Compressor / Limiter, an effect plug-in developed in collaboration with Harman Professional.
Considered one of the best drum compressors ever, the original dbx® 160 stands tall among its peers, boasting a very clean sound with minimum THD. The fast-acting dbx 160 compressor was used in almost every major recording in the late ‘70s and throughout the ‘80s, and later models in the 160 series also became industry standards.
Created in collaboration with dbx, the Waves dbx 160 compressor / limiter plugin is an authentic-sounding software version of this storied piece of hardware. In addition to its meticulous modeling of the vintage compressor, the Waves dbx 160 plugin incorporates unique and exclusive features not found in the original hardware, such as Waves’ MS Matrix, mix and noise controls, and a stereo component. The result is a must-have compressor / limiter for use in the studio, live, or both.
“To get closer to the realism of live performance” has been a goal of dbx since the company’s inception in the 1970s. This goal has come full circle with the Waves dbx 160 compressor / limiter plugin, which enables users to achieve stunning realism in the studio or to add nuance to an actual live performance.
The plugin is to be released soon. Pricing TBA.

Drumdrops has announced the release of 1970s Slingerland Classic Rock Kit, a multi-format drum kit sample library mixed by Alan Moulder.
This 1970s Slingerland Classic Rock Kit is a truly spectacular kit. A deep sounding kick drum, five toms and a classic Slingerland Radio King 14″ x 7″ snare drum, makes this kit a great choice for anyone who wants to re-enact their 70s rock classics. However it is not a one-trick pony as often shown by the engineers and producers who use it on their records while working at the Pool studio in London where it resides. To get the best out of this kit we enlisted the help of one of the leading alternative rock mix engineers in the world – Alan Moulder.
Alan Moulder needs no introduction. Voted UK Producer of the year in 2014 for the BRIT awards and Music Producers Guild Awards, Alan is one of the UK’s most sonically innovative Alternative Rock Producer/Mixers. Working prolifically in the UK and USA, Alan has been at the helm of some of rock music’s most iconic records and his credits include Nine Inch Nails, The Killers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, My Bloody Valentine, Them Crooked Vultures, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Arctic Monkeys, Led Zeppelin, Death Cab For Cutie, Foals and Royal Blood to name but a few.
The kit comprises a 24″ x 14″ Kick drum, 12″, 13″, 14″ & 15″ Rack Toms and an 18″ Floor Tom. The snare used was a 14″ x 7″ Slingerland Radio King snare. Cymbals used Zildjian 14″ New Beat hi-hats, a 21″ Zildjian Custom K Ride, a Zildjian K Dark Medium Thin 18″ Crash and a Zildjian Vintage Cie 16″ Crash.

Loopmasters has announced the release of Synth Explorer – SH101, a sample library featuring the sounds for the SH101 synthesizer instrument from Roland.
Volume 2 of the Synth Explorer collection is the classic Roland SH101. Produced in 1983 the SH101 was one solid Monophonic synth, capable of huge fat basses and squelchy resonant SFX but its super-fast envelope makes for awesome analogue percussion making it perfect for producers of Techno, Drum n Bass and Acid!
The SH101 is a relatively simple 1 VCO analogue monosynth but deserves its place in the Hall of Fame, highlights include a self-resonating filter, Pulse width Modulation, Variable Speed LFO with selectable Wave Shapes, Arpeggio, Simple Sequencer and a user upgradable Modulation Grip and Shoulder strap for anyone brave or crazy enough to jump around on stage with one strapped around their neck.
This edition of Vintage Explorer sees a wealth of loop and one shot samples covering a wide range of sounds perfect for Techno, Dubstep, Drum & Bass or even Experimental Electronica. The collection features an inspiring range of sequencer and arp loops at 140 and 175BPM and one shot sounds that have been sourced directly from a real SH101 with varying degrees of additional processing including Heavy Distortion, Phaser, Delay, Reverb and Flanger.
