Embertone Friedlander Violin

Embertone has announced its upcoming Friedlander Violin Kontakt 5 Player sample library.

We set out to create a virtual violin with malleable, intuitive controls, and an authentic, LIVING sound. From the beginning we wanted control over vibrato and dynamics, so we presented Dovid with an insane, almost athletic challenge: to record more than 3500 samples with musical purpose and a beautiful tone, and all WITHOUT VIBRATO! This gives you your own layer of expressivity… a variety of musical parameters at your fingertips so that you can craft and phrase authentic performances.

Friedlander Violin features

  • Extensively sampled, living solo violin.
  • Bow change + slur “true” legato.
  • Speed-controlled portamentos.
  • Vibrato control (intensity/speed/color).
  • Real-time attack control of sustains.
  • 3500+ unique samples.
  • Scripted speed responsiveness.
  • Staccatos RR X 8, 4 dynamic layers.
  • Bow noise control.
  • Custom-scripted ENSEMBLE mode.
  • Made for the free Kontakt 5 Player.

The Friedlander Violin is available to pre-order for $110 USD until May 15th, 2013. The pre-order comes with a 20% discount off your next order at Embertone.

8Dio Adagio Violins Vol 1.1 for Kontakt + Back To School Bundle

8Dio Adagio Violins

8Dio has announced the release of Adagio Violins Vol. 1.1, a sample library for Kontakt, containing over 33,300 polished samples and reprogramming of all articulations.

Produced by Academy Award, TEC and G.A.N.G Award Winning Composer, Troels Folmann and Emmy nominated composer and orchestrator, Colin O’Malley, 8Dio Adagio String Series marks the most expressive collection of deep-sampled emotional strings ever created. Adagio contains a variety of advanced techniques that were specifically developed for the library. The techniques allow you to create completely realistic string sequences with true emotion and passion. You don’t need to be a master orchestrator to sound great.

Changes in Adagio Violins v1.1

  • All legatos have been polished, refining the level of the intervals and their associated grafted dynamic bows/post sustains.
  • An entirely new “CLOSE” mic mix has been created for the legato patches. Previously the CLOSE mix for legatos was not drastically different from the MIX. The new CLOSE mix provides great clarity and focus in the interval transitions. Essentially you have the detail of a stage recording coupled with the lush sound of a church environment. It’s the best of both worlds in our view.
  • A “Violins 2″ button has been incorporated into all Adagio patches. This button simulates the slightly darker tone of a violins 2 section.
  • Lite patches (patches using direct from disk streaming) are available across the library. In most cases these lite patches are nearly identical to the full versions, but have much smaller memory footprints. As an example, Adagio Instinct Legato full version = 500mb. The Light version = 22mb. Adagio is NOT a resource hungry library.
  • Vibrato “character” control is now incorporated into many of the legato patches, with all new sustain recordings. The control goes beyond simply adding more vibrato. You can actually alter the character, allowing for more solo-istic detail to shine through when appropriate.
  • Adagio now includes MULTI LEGATO patches. These patches allow you to switch fluidly between up to 3 legato types within a single connected phrase. You can switch legato types based on velocity or MIDI CC.
  • Short notes have been reprogrammed and mixed to capture more ambience of the natural church environment. They are MUCH lusher in tone. They have also been balanced allowing for smoother articulation switching.
  • There are now host tempo synced patches available for all loures and phrase patches. There are versions for both Kontakt 4 and Kontakt 5 users.
  • 40 Bonus Ambiences have been crafted from our lush Adagio source material.
  • Output mapping has been expanded, allowing routing of different mic positions to different outputs. This is an essential addition for surround mixing.
  • Every patch in the library has been smoothed, polished, buffed and spanked.

Adagio Violins is available to purchase for $499 USD. The update is free for all current owners.

8Dio has also announced the Back To School Bundle, a limited time bundle comprising 1928 Legacy Piano, Hybrid Tools Vol. 1, Song Writing Guitar, and Studio Solo Violin.

Soundiron intros Street Erhu traditional Chinese violin phrase library

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Jun 27, 2012

Soundiron has announced the release of its Street Erhu, a live-performance phrase library that features thousands of high-fidelity traditional Chinese erhu violin phrases.

Soundiron Street Erhu
The Street Erhu phrase library for Kontakt comes with a custom UI controls.

With 6.3GB of content, this collection covers 8 instruments, in different sizes and voicings. This library is designed to combine the authentic realism of a naturally emotive live performance with the control and flexibility of granular deep phrase sampling.

For the creation of Street Erhu, we worked with veteran street performer Qi Xin Huang and local Erhu craftsman Kenneth Lam. Qi Xin’s playing is raw, emotive and authentic, evoking a traditional flavor not possible with a sterile and overly rigid performance. Each erhu sampled in this library offers its own unique flavor, creating a palette of different sounds fit for any stylistic need.

This Street Erhu features 83 presets for Kontakt. There are 1328 bass erhu, 2543 mid-range erhu and 341 treble erhu phrases recorded in a dry studio environment, plus 398 bowing and fingering sfx. There are also 12 additional songs recorded live on busy city streets and 40 songs recorded in a bustling underground subway station. We’ve also included 48 ambiences created from the source material allowing users to experiment with a wide range of soundscapes and FX. As always there is a range of automatable LFO, EQ, filter, custom convolution and sound-shaping systems to expand on the creative possibilities that this library offers.

The sound library for Kontakt (full retail version required) is available to purchase for the introductory price of $69 USD until July 5th, 2012 (regular $79 USD).

Time+Space intros Luminoso – Live Violin Phrases from Zero-G

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Mar 28, 2012

Time+Space has announced Luminoso – Live Violin Phrases, a Kontakt sound library from Zero-G.

Zero-G Luminoso Live Violin Phrases

Performed by two world-class violinists from the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded in Liverpool’s famous Parr Street studios, Luminoso: Live Phrases is a 15GB collection of thousands of live recorded 6-bar looped phrases. Despite recording only two players, the instrument cleverly layers up to 6 different bars in real-time for the effective sound of a 12-piece string section, or if you wish, you can dial it down to the sound of a solo violin.

Luminoso bridges the gap between premium string libraries which have excellent control, but can sound artificial on certain passages (such as runs, arpeggios, fast rhythms), and ‘pre-recorded melodic phrases’ libraries, which can sound dazzling on first listen but have little useful control and can grow tired quickly.

Despite being made from pre-recorded phrases, Luminoso remains highly controllable. This has been achieved by recording the same patterns across a wide pitch and dynamic range with many scale variations, by choosing patterns that blend in particularly well to a wide variety of musical styles, and then by allowing you to automatically sync to the tempo of your projects with a wide variety of chord, rhythm and scale types all controlled with key-switches. Dynamic levels pp to ff can be smoothly cross-faded by mod wheel, the ensemble size can be zoomed from solo to 12 players, and two mic positions (close and room) can be chosen or blended.

Luminoso is available as a DVD or download exclusively from Time+Space, priced RRP £99.95 GBP / 115 EUR.
