Steinberg has released Cubase 7 and Cubase Artist 7, two new versions of the highly acclaimed Cubase music production system for recording, editing, mixing and producing music to the highest standards.

The new mixing facilities feature the MixConsole including full-screen mode and scalability plus Channel Zones, A/B comparison, global bypass on effects and plug-in search for a high level of user customization. The newly developed channel strip comes with several filters, noise gate, the four-band StudioEQ, three compressors, a spectrum analyzer, tube/tape saturation, a brickwall limiter and maximize. The Channel Settings window is redesigned to provide easy access to all channel parameters, such as input metering and routing assignments, alongside the Remote Control Editor for easy mapping of plug-in parameters to external controllers. Also available in Cubase 7 are Voxengo’s CurveEQ, EBU R128 standard compliant loudness metering and the latest version of MixConvert.

Other musical highlights in Cubase 7 are Chord Track, a dedicated track for identifying the music’s harmony structure and providing chord and scale information to both MIDI and audio tracks processed with VariAudio, and these in return automatically follow any harmonic adjustments in Chord Track. VariAudio is exclusively available in Cubase and now runs hand in hand with Chord Track for editing multiple parts within a single editor and harmonizing lead vocals in choral arrangements, while Chord Assistant bridges chords and generates harmonic chord progressions. Hermode tuning is included in both Cubase 7 and Cubase Artist 7. Newly introduced samples, loops and presets round out the extensive spectrum of sounds.

More features and enhancements focus around the performance of Cubase. ASIO-Guard improves stability and prevents data dropouts, while the-start mode disables user preferences temporarily. Finding tracks and channels in large projects is facilitated through the keyword-oriented search engine. MemZap stores positions and zoom factors within the project at any particular time. The Steinberg Hub comprises an enhanced Project Assistant plus additional information services, such as news and a regularly updated list of video tutorials. For peer-to-peer collaboration in real time, VST Connect SE features talkback and chat functionality as well as video and audio streaming over the Internet.

Steinberg has announced the upcoming release of Nuendo 6, the latest and most powerful iteration of Steinberg’s state-of-the-art production environment tailored to post and audio production studios.

With the IOSONO Anymix Pro 1.3 plug-in, Nuendo 6 now provides automatic EQ and loudness adjustments to surround sound signal panning and allows for quality upmixing up to 8.1 surround sound. Nuendo 6 has been tested on professional HP Z workstations for maximum reliability and certified performance.

Nuendo 6 is at the heart of the Nuage system solution, a novel platform for post-production introduced by Yamaha and Steinberg. The dedicated control surface, audio interface hardware and Nuendo 6 are interlinked to allow for custom configurations.

The optional Nuendo 6 Expansion Kit (NEK) comprises features that turn Nuendo into a fully fledged composing application. Included are the new Chord Track, which detects and modifies the harmony structure of MIDI and audio tracks edited in VariAudio, and Chord Assistant, newly introduced to bridge chords and generate harmonic chord progressions. Further additions are Hermode tuning for dynamic retuning in real time, 300 new instrument sounds for HALion Sonic SE and the Retrologue virtual-analog and Padshop granular synthesizers.

Steinberg has announced the upcoming releases of Cubase 7 and Cubase Artist 7.

Voxengo has updated its Deft Compressor audio track and bus compressor effect plug-in for Windows and Mac to version 1.4.

Deft Compressor is an audio signal compressor plug-in for professional audio production applications. The characteristic feature of this compressor is its ability to produce “slim” and “slick” sounding compression, with intelligibility enhancement effect. Such result is achieved by compressor’s timing function that closely resembles the S-curve (sigmoid curve) on both attack and release stages. S-curve timing function also helps compressor to sound “warm” and “clean” at most settings.

Deft Compressor is perfectly usable for compressing vocals, drums, guitars and other instruments, both technically and creatively. Beside that, it can be used to compress mix groups and full mixes.

Voxengo has announced updates for a number of its free effect plug-ins for Windows and Mac.

These updated plug-ins are now available in native 64-bit AudioUnit and VST formats on Mac OS X. Note that on Mac computers, these plug-ins now support Mac OS X v10.5 and higher only, running on Intel processors. Mac PowerPC support is not available.

These updated versions include a fix to the previously available graphics display issue on Mac OS X 10.8.
