FXpansion launches Maul multi-band distortion & tone-shaping effect

FXpansion has announced the release of its Maul multi-band distortion and tone-shaping plugin with advanced modulation.

FXpansion Maul
Maul is suited to all music requiring powerful sound-sculpting abilities – everything from subtle warming and loudness generation to shredding distortion and experimental creative effects.

Maul features 3 separate drive stages, each of which can act on a different frequency range with any of 32 distortion types. The available algorithms include DCAM-modelled germanium diode, tube and transistor-based circuits, clippers, overdrives, waveshapers of various kinds and bit-crushing devices for digital distortion flavours. Each drive stage also features control over transient-shaping, saturation circuitry and additional post-process tone filtering.

The built-in TransMod modulation system allows you to animate Maul’s parameters with the internal LFOs, envelope follower and sample & hold devices as well as with external MIDI note input. This turns Maul into an extremely flexible device capable of dynamic filter patterns, rhythmic gating effects with extra bite, loudness and harmonic excitation effects and wild, dynamic distortion that can transform your audio.

FXpansion introduces its Maul multi-band distortion and tone-shaping plug-in.

Maul features

  • 3-band creative distortion and tone-shaping device.
  • DCAM-modelled circuits, clippers, waveshapers, overdrive, bitcrushing and more.
  • Additional per-band transient-shaping control.
  • Saturation circuitry modelling.
  • 2x oversampling with 4x Hi Def mode for extremely high quality.
  • Advanced TransMod modulation and MIDI note control.
  • Built-in MIDI Learn for plugin controls.
  • 32-bit and 64-bit support.
  • VST, AU and RTAS plugin formats on Windows 7 and Mac OSX 10.6.2 or later.

WaveShaper intros KORG KR-55 and PLASTICID MkII sample packs

WaveShaper KORG KR-55

WaveShaper has announced the release of two new drum sample packs.

The KR-55 pack includes 7 kits with 142 one-shot samples (WAV, 24bit 48khz stereo), from clean and transparent to punchy and saturated.

With its plastic beige enclosure design, the Korg KR-55 looks like a late 70s’ nerd wet dream.

Every single sound from this 1979 preset drum machine is just perfect : snappy snare, punchy bass drum, electronic hi hats and exotic percussions with a retro flavour. Heavily used by early electro bands, its raw sound just fit in any mix and any genre.

The sample pack costs $3.90; a free demo pack is available to download.

WaveShaper Plasticid MkII

The Plasiticid MkII sample pack includes 133 one-shot samples (24bit, 48Khz stereo WAV files) from the Boss DR-110 drum machine.

Plasticid MkII takes the critically-acclaimed Plasticid drumsample pack one step further, with 121 new samples gathered in 15 kits.

This new version aims at coloration and expands the sonic palette of the venerable Boss DR-110, processing it using vintage hardware to shape it up nicely. The cymbals are spitting, the bassdrum is kicking, and the snare and claps tones ranging from dark to bright make each kit acting like a rebirth for the mighty dr-110! Great care has also been taken about recording a semi open hat sample for even more epxression.

The MkII kit is available to purchase for $3.40 USD; The “classic” kit is still available for $1.40 USD. Existing customers can upgrade to MkII version at no cost.

Sinevibes Circuit multi-band waveshaper announced

Related: , , , Posted in news on Sep 19, 2012 - comment 0 comments

Sinevibes has introduced Circuit, an effect plugin designed for multi-band waveshape modelling.

Sinevibes Circuit
Circuit is an innovative multi-band waveshape modeling effect for radical sound sculpting.

Circuit splits the signal into three frequency bands, and passes each band through its own processing engine which offers 12 different models – from sine-based transformers and foldback distortion, to circuit-bent filters, lo-fi and ring modulation. These models can be put in motion by an envelope follower, tempo-synchronized modulator or two-dimensional Lorenz chaos generator.

All of these features are wrapped into a fun and simple to use, yet stylish colour-coded interface, which features Sinevibes’ innovative new design language. Circuit is also based on a future-proof graphics engine that supports the Retina MacBook Pro and of course all forthcoming high-resolution Mac computers.

Circuit for Mac (32/64-bit AU) will be available in October 2012. It can be pre-ordered for $19 USD. Customers who purchase the Sinevibes’ Complete AudioUnit collection (and those who purchased it after 1st September 2012) will receive Circuit as a free bonus.

WaveShaper releases MR-10 Grey Matter and Soul Sisters Trio drum sample packs

WaveShaper has announced the MR-10 Grey Matter and Soul Sisters Trio, two new drumsample packs.

The MR-10 is a compact analogue drum machine from the early 80′s made by Yamaha. It features 5 pads that you can hit to trigger the sounds and some cheesy tango & waltz presets.

WaveShaper MR-10 Grey Matter

This tiny grey box has a rather characteristic sound, with a deep kick (somewhat reminiscent of the infamous 909) and a quite unique snare. The tone knob lets you shape the sound of the kit, and it is very efficient on the toms and snare. It sounds 200% analogue, but not like the usual suspects, so this carefully recorded WaveShaper pack will fit in any of your music productions, from electro pop to doom exotica !

As always, great care has been taken to keep the original sound alive and kicking with a high headroom, but some subtle tube coloring and compression assures you to make this kit sound unique.

The pro kit gathers 5 tone variations from each of the 7 individual sounds, in stereo, 24bit, 48khz wav files. It is available to purchase for $1.40 USD. A free kit includes one full sample kit (7 sounds, mono, 16bit/44.1khz wav files).

The Soul Sisters Trio sample pack includes samples from three retro drum synthesizers.

WaveShaper DR-55B

Built at the same time, these three small retro boxes share several features, but like soul sisters, they each have their unique character and a different sound.

The Boss DR-55 features a rimshot and a tone control. It was used by a bunch of artists in the past decades for its signature sound.

The Soundmaster SR-88 has a very delicate, soft, analogue sound and is perfect for electro tracks or sweet retro songs.

The Amdek RMK-100 is the rarest of the bunch. It was built by Roland and sold as a DIY project, which makes it very hard to find. The sound is the rawest of the three, and the hi-hats are a true gem for any acid and electro lover.

I recorded them with the usual care, through a custom chain of gentle tube compression and a tube preamp. I made several takes in order to capture the subtle analogue variations of each sound, and also processed them with a vintage hardware eq (and some distortion on one kit to make it dirtier and punchier). Any round-robin able softsampler will love to be fed by these analogue sounds!

The pro kit gathers 57 samples, 48khz-24bit stereo Wav files), available to purchase for $4.90 USD. The nasty pack contains more than 170 samples, priced $6.90 USD. A free kit contains some samples from the 3 drum machines (17 samples, 44,1khz-16bit mono Wav files).
