Arturia Wurlitzer V

Arturia has announced the availability of Wurlitzer V, a high-end software recreation of the classic Wurlitzer EP 200A electric piano.

Think electric piano, and many musicians still think Wurlitzer or ‘Wurly’ — one of a series of electro- mechanical stringless pianos manufactured and marketed by the US-based Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, coining the trademarked Electronic Piano phrase in the process. The 1972-launched Wurlitzer EP 200A represented Wurlitzer’s top-of-the-range, reed-based piano line throughout its impressive 10-year production lifespan; today Arturia’s Wurlitzer V faithfully resurrects that still-sought-after sound — and more besides!

Unlike traditional sampling libraries, the Wurlitzer V’s embedded physical modelling engine readily reproduces the agreeable acoustic properties of the Wurlitzer EP 200A’s musically distinctive reeds, key action, and amplification combo by ‘constructing’ played notes in real time, creating cost-effective and reliable realism in a computer-based, truly portable package fit for a 21st Century performer; moreover, maximising integral sonic flexibility to skilfully surpass its hardware namesake is also the virtual order of the day here, appealing to studio and stage users alike.

Wurlitzer V features

  • Physical Modeling of the classic Wurlitzer 200A Electric Piano.
  • Advanced parameters to allow in-depth control over the sound design.
  • Includes 11 classic stompbox-type modeled effects.
  • 4 Guitar Tube Amps and 1 Rotary Speaker modeling for vintage live sound.
  • Extensive MIDI mapping of pedals, effects and sound engine parameters.

Wurlitzer V is available to purchase as a software download for 99 EUR / $99 USD, or as boxed software for 119 EUR / $129 USD.

Acousticsamples releases Wurlie – Wurlitzer Student Electronic Piano sound library

Acousticsamples has released Wurlie, a sampled 64 keys Wurlitzer 206A piano.

The 206A is a student model, and is very similar to a 200A except for its beige color and built in amp/speaker (it also did not come with a tremolo). It was designed to be paired with a 206, which is the teacher model and they were mainly used in conservatories. The teacher had a headphone and microphone to be able to listen to each student individually and talk to them without others hearing them.

We recorded it both from the direct output using a state of the art DI (Universal Audio Solo 610) and also using a pair of microphones right above the keys next to where the head of a player would be. We also included our common features like the multiple releases along with our sympathetic resonance system (both pedal up and down). You also have access to various commonly used effects and a full control over the midi parameters to make it fit to your keyboards response.

  • Time based release samples for accurate staccato sound.
  • Sustain pedal noises (up and down), triggered automatically.
  • Independant mix of the acoustic/electric sound.
  • Sympathetic resonance on both pedal up and down.
  • Complete control over the midi response.
  • EQ.
  • Vibrato simulation.
  • Saturation, chorus and flanger effects.
  • Amp simulation of the real cabinet.

Hollow Sun releases Tubelitzer for Kontakt

Hollow Sun has released Tubelitzer, an electric piano sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Hollow Sun Tubelizer

We are extremely pleased to announce a new library – ‘Tubelitzer’, a valve/tube-based Wurlitzer 120 electric piano from the late 50s/early 60s, the one used by Ray Charles on his early hit, “What I’d Say”, which earned him some mainstream recognition.

Sampled chromatically with full length samples (no looping) and up to 27 velocity layers per note and release samples, this is an authentic recreation of a rare piece of music history…

We’ve taken some liberties with the functionality that departs from the original somewhat – adding tremolo, balance and stereo spread plus variable velocity curves, hum, etc.. There are also ten ‘factory’ presets plus provision to save ten of your own.

But it doesn’t end there – it also comes with a virtual pedalboard of stomp boxes to add a wide range of effects.. With distortion, cab simulator, chorus, phase shifter, rotary speaker, echo and convolution reverb (featuring a wide range of custom impulses from vintage springs, plates, rooms, etc., to halls and massive ambiences), the effects allows you to transform the sound quite dramatically.

Tubelitzer features

  • 44.1kHz/24-Bit.
  • Full length, chromatic samples.
  • Up to 27 velocity layers per note.
  • Release samples.
  • GUI adds extra functionality.
  • Comprehensive multiFX with phaser, chorus and delay.
  • Convolved reverb with a wide range of impulses.

Tubelitzer for Kontakt (requires Kontakt 4.2.3 full version) is available for £30 GBP.
