Addwave has announced the release of a public beta for its generative MIDI plugin that writes its own melody and harmony. Each take in Looma is different, but a five-stage “Music Theory Engine” (chord-tone weighting, pentatonic focus, an avoid-note filter, no-repeat, and note-to-note smoothness) keeps it musically coherent rather than just random.
Looma is a generative MIDI plugin that performs “musically” despite being driven by randomness. It runs on its own, continuously generating melodies and harmonies that are different every time — yet never sound wrong.
Looma for Windows and macOS (VST3/AU) is currently available as a completely free, full-featured public beta on Gumroad. The beta license ends after 2 weeks, after which the plugin reverts to trial mode.
