Arvital Soft has recently launched a cross-platform tool which captures whatever your Mac or Windows machine is playing — a browser stream, a softsynth demo, a Zoom call, a reference track — and routes it into a WAV file, into your DAW as a plugin, or into any app that reads a standard audio input.
Recording system audio on macOS has traditionally meant installing BlackHole or Soundflower, building an aggregate device in Audio MIDI Setup, rerouting the system output, and remembering to undo it later. On Windows, it’s Stereo Mix that isn’t there or VoiceMeeter that takes a weekend to learn.
AudioRoute skips the setup: hit a global keyboard shortcut and a WAV lands in your recordings folder, or load the AudioRoute Capture plug-in on a DAW track in Logic, Ableton, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, Bitwig, or FL Studio and record system audio alongside anything else on the timeline. AudioRoute also registers as a Core Audio (Mac) or WASAPI (Windows) input device called AudioRoute Input, so any application that lets you pick an audio input — OBS, Zoom, QuickTime, Voice Memos, or a DAW’s audio settings — can select it directly. That’s the drop-in replacement for BlackHole and Soundflower.
AudioRoute uses OS-native capture paths — macOS’s Core Audio process-tap API and Windows’ WASAPI process loopback, so there’s no need for any kernel extension or output rerouting.
Speakers, headphones, and audio interfaces keep working exactly as they did. A built-in Feedback Protection layer auto-detects the running DAW and excludes its own playback from the capture, so no feedback loop even at unity gain. On Windows, the WASAPI process-loopback path is bit-perfect at matched sample rates. The background process runs only during a recording session, then sleeps.
AudioRoute is available for €29 EUR (+ tax) as a perpetual license with lifetime updates, and you can download a 14-day fully-functional trial without a credit card. It runs on macOS 14.2+ and Windows 10/11, ships as VST3, AU, and AAX plugin variants, and includes a menu-bar tray app plus the AudioRoute Input virtual device.
