AudioThing has announced an update to its popular Outer Space, a faithful emulation of the a Space Echo RE-201 vintage tape echo made in the early ’70s by Roland.

As the original unit, Outer Space features a tape echo section with three playback heads and two spring reverb tanks. We have modelled three different tape frequency responses and saturations, along with all the analog imperfections of tape recording/playback.

We have also modelled the ballistic response of the delay rate (repeat rate) which can create eerie pitch shifts (due to the Doppler effect), one of the classic tape echo-based sound effects.

Version 1.3.3 brings support for macOS 12 Monterey, improved CPU and memory usage, and some minor bug fixes.

Outer Space for Windows and Mac (VST/VST3, AU and AAX) is on sale for 39 USD/EUR instead of 69 USD/EUR at the AudioThing store and from distributors Plugin Boutique and ADSR Sounds until May 31st, 2022.
