Beatport continues to evolve its genre lineup with the introduction of Brazilian Funk as a standalone category on the platform. This update recognizes one of Brazil’s most dynamic and culturally rich musical exports: an electrifying genre born in the favelas, now resonating across global dance floors.
“Brazilian Funk is more than a genre – it’s a cultural force with deep electronic roots,” said Raphael Pujol, VP of Global Curation at The Beatport Group. “After witnessing its electrifying impact firsthand, we knew it was time to bring it to Beatport. As Funk’s influence spreads worldwide, we’re proud to provide a dedicated space for the DJs, artists and labels shaping its future. By launching Funk on Beatport, we aim to elevate the sound, amplify its creators and connect the global dance community with this powerful movement.”
Brazilian Funk draws inspiration from Miami bass, rap, disco and early electronic music, transforming these influences into a genre that’s unmistakably local. Built on rapid-fire percussion and 808s, Brazilian Funk has long served as a voice for marginalized communities while dominating the country’s street parties and charts alike.
The genre spans vibrant substyles like Funk Carioca, Funk Mandelão, and Funk BH, each with its own distinct energy and regional flair, now all supported on Beatport. With support from leading artists, producers and labels such as DJ Rennan da Penha, DJ GBR, MC GW, Love Funk and ONErpm, Brazilian Funk’s arrival on Beatport marks a bold new chapter for the platform’s global soundscape.
Alongside the launch of Brazilian Funk as a new genre, Beatport is making its platform more accessible to users in Brazil. Subscriptions for Beatport and Beatsource streaming are now available in Brazilian Real, with prices reduced by up to 60%. The site will also automatically display in Portuguese for users in Brazil, and a new “Discover Brazil” page will spotlight the most exciting sounds and artists shaping the country’s electronic music scene.
