Big Man Labs has introduced a single-knob loudness shaper effect for Windows, macOS and Linux (VST3, AU, AAX, and CLAP). Big Pump reads the music in real time and shapes itself around what is actually happening in the signal.
The result is a saturator and density tool that follows the music: kicks land harder, vocals push forward, mixes glue together, and the effect ducks and lifts in step with the performance instead of fighting it.
Under the hood is the 4D Modulation system, which continuously analyses four dimensions of the incoming audio and uses that information to tell Big Pump how to react. Four mode personalities (Fat, Smooth, Tight, Open) tell the system what to listen for and how quickly to respond. A Modern / Vintage toggle sets the harmonic character, and Width drives the sides harder than the centre for stereo enhanced saturation.
Big Pump features
- Single PUMP knob drives the entire effect from subtle glue to maximum density.
- Four mode personalities (Fat, Smooth, Tight, Open), each with its own sound and reaction style.
- 4D Modulation continuously analyses the audio so the effect tracks what the music is doing.
- Modern / Vintage character toggle for clean or tube style harmonic flavour.
- Auto Gain keeps perceived loudness constant so A/Bs aren’t fooled by level.
- Width drives the sides harder than the centre to saturate the stereo image alone.
- Saturation toggle adds a second transformer style harmonic layer on top of the main curve.
- Delta monitoring solos exactly what Big Pump is adding.
- Live Pump Action meter shows 4D Modulation working in real time.
- Oversampling from 2x up to 16x, off by default.
- Resizable interface from 75% to 175% in 25% steps.
Big Pump is available to purchase for $24 USD. A free 14-day trial version is available to try the plugin.
