Harpist Emily Hopkins has introduced a new audio plugin that is designed to offer a simple way to get started making chiptune-inspired music.
Available as a free virtual instrument in VST3 and AU formats for Windows and Mac, Chippo lets you generate melody, bass and drums, with controls for root and scale, sequence steps (up to 64), volume and octave, ADSR envelope, and more.
Set the parameters to your liking, and you can even play along with another instrument – a synth, a harp perhaps – as Chippo chips and chirps. Chippo is purposefully simple. There are no hidden features, no secret modes. It doesn’t generate MIDI, only vibes. It’s a fun snack for a day in the studio.
The plugins is free to download from Emily Hopkins’ website.
