In partnership with Laurie Spiegel, Eventide Audio has announced the re-release of a pioneering software program from 1986 that allowed anyone with a computer to make music. The intelligent musical instrument turns simple cursor gestures into harmonically rich music in real time.
Music Mouse can spark new harmonic ideas and offers a powerful way to discover melodies and rhythms you wouldn’t normally play on a keyboard.
Music Mouse features new presets created by Laurie Spiegel, a refreshed interface, and MIDI Out to connect to a DAW or external hardware.
Music Mouse turns simple mouse movements into melody and counterpoint in real time, letting you play music directly instead of programming it. Independent horizontal and vertical motion generate interlocking musical lines, while built-in harmonic logic keeps everything musically coherent. Use it to improvise, explore new ideas, or drive external instruments with expressive, human control.
Available for Windows and macOS, Music Mouse is priced $29 USD.
