FRCTL Audio has released a major update to its real-time granular effect plugin. Version 2 of GRN adds an integrated FX Rack, a dual LFO modulation system, and an expanded preset library.
GRN listens to your audio in real time, slicing it into tiny grains and scattering them across time, pitch, and space. It can smear a vocal into an ethereal wash, turn a guitar strum into a shimmering cloud, or transform a simple synth pad into something that feels alive and constantly evolving. The buffer is always rolling, always reacting — you’re not working with frozen samples, you’re shaping sound as it happens.
Changes in GRN v2.0
- The new FX Rack adds a 10-slot, drag-to-reorder effect chain directly inside the plugin. Available effect types include Bitcrusher, Chorus, Reverb, Delay, Phaser, Flanger, Distortion, Tremolo, Utility and Filter. Each slot has per-effect animated visualizers, bypass toggle, and WET/DRY/BOTH routing to process the granular output, the dry signal, or both.
- Two independent LFOs can be routed to any plugin parameter by dragging from the LFO waveform directly onto a knob. Seven waveform shapes are available – Sine, Triangle, Square, Saw Up, Saw Down, Sample & Hold, and Random – with tempo sync and bipolar depth control for inverted modulation.
- The factory preset library has expanded to 49 presets organized across seven categories: Textures, Space, Lo-Fi, Pitch, Glitch, Rhythmic, and Creative. A one-click randomizer and user preset saving are also included.
GRN for Windows, macOS and Linux (VST3, AU and CLAP) is available to purchase for $29.99 USD. A free GRN Lite version is also available.
