Venice-based musician and DJ Filippo Corradin wrote in to share about his collection of plugins released under the Creature From The Black project.
What began as firmware written for the Daisy Seed to use live, moved to plugins when more computing power was needed. Filippo’s instruments start from something that is not a waveform: synthesizers that integrate chaotic equations in real time and keep them in tune, a drum machine that strikes those same equations like drum heads, a distortion that uses a 3D chaotic orbit as its transfer curve, and a granular instrument that plays live shortwave receivers. Plus a GPU visualizer that runs inside the DAW and a utility that bridges DAW audio into OBS.
Every one of these instruments starts from something that already moves on its own — a chaotic trajectory, a chemical reaction, a radio band — and the work goes into making that motion playable: in tune, in tempo, and visible while you hear it. Nothing here emulates a classic.
Built in JUCE with manuals available in English and Italian, the collection currently spans the following plugins:
- Attrattor: Monophonic synthesizer whose oscillators are 36 chaotic dynamical systems, integrated live and kept in tune while they morph.
- Reagente: Polyphonic synthesizer in which the geometry of a 2D pattern is read and becomes the partials you hear. Chemistry, or images: a modern ANS.
- Percossa II: Four-voice drum machine where every voice is a chaotic attractor struck like a drum head. Multi-out, MIDI.
- Cataclisma: Distortion whose transfer curve is the 3D orbit of a chaotic attractor — and you can rotate that curve while you listen.
- Radiogranular: Two live shortwave receivers from the worldwide KiwiSDR network, played by MIDI through a granular engine.
- Spettro: GPU visualizer that lives on an audio track: four built-in scenes, GLSL shader import, Spout and NDI output.
- Ponte: Sends your DAW master straight into OBS through shared memory. No virtual cable, no driver (includes OBS plugin).
