Wild Surmise, the one-person studio of developer Tom Power, has released a free saturation plugin aimed at adding weight and grit to thin-sounding tracks.
When pushed gently, Ispín works as compression and glue, driven hard it becomes full-on distortion.
Ispín is the Irish for sausage. I named it that because saturation is basically the same job: take something thin, pack it full, make it satisfying. I built it to be the plugin you reach for without thinking. Four knobs, no manual. No pigs were harmed in the making of this plugin, except for one pig who I consulted about the meaning of life, and if sausages are a big fear for him.
Three controls handle the shaping: Richness dials in density and drive, from subtle thickening to heavy saturation; Colour tilts the harmonic content from dark to bright; and Roughness pushes the waveform off-center for buzz and edge.
Ispín is available for iOS (AUv3) and desktop (VST3, AU and CLAP for Windows and macOS).
