LOFI Monster Studio has recently released a free Max for Live device that puts DMX stage lighting control directly on an Ableton Live audio track.
MonsterDMX drives up to two DMX fixtures with independent or linked RGB(W) color, a master dimmer, and an instant blackout switch. Brightness can follow the track’s own audio through a built-in follower with attack and release shaping, or run from four onboard FX modes, each with its own speed control, and every parameter is automatable and MIDI-mappable like any native Live parameter.
Color, brightness, strobe, blackout — all live on the device, all automatable, all MIDI-mappable. Draw a color ramp in Arrangement. Map blackout to a pad. Let the music drive the lights with the built-in audio follower.
MonsterDMX features
- Up to 2 fixtures with independent or linked RGB(W) color.
- Master dimmer and instant blackout.
- Audio follower with attack and release shaping.
- 4 FX modes: strobe, jump, gradual, and pulse.
- On-face channel remap for PAR fixtures with non-standard channel order.
- Full automation and MIDI mapping, plus compatibility with inexpensive uDMX USB-DMX interfaces.
Available as a “pay what you like” download, MonsterDMX for Windows requires Ableton Live 11 or 12 with Max for Live, a uDMX USB-DMX interface, and one or more DMX PAR fixtures (a one-time Zadig driver install is needed).
