AZPEX Audio has introduced a free clipper plugin designed for controlled peak shaping, parallel clipping, and final-stage processing.
Regent keeps input drive, transfer shape, processed level, and dry/wet blend as separate, independently controllable stages.
CLIP applies gain before the nonlinear stage. STYLE selects the transfer curve, and CHARACTER adjusts the Soft or Solid response. CEILING trims the processed path after clipping. MIX then combines it with the aligned dry path.
This structure lets you increase drive without moving the selected curve or tying output level to input gain.
Regent features
- 3 transfer curves: Soft (broadest knee, continuous through the third derivative), Solid (narrower knee, continuous through the second derivative), and Hard (an abrupt clamp with no knee).
- ADAA (antiderivative anti-aliasing) active at every oversampling rate: 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x.
- CLIP (up to +10dB input drive), CEILING (processed-path trim), CHARACTER (Soft/Solid response shaping, inactive on Hard), and a continuous linear MIX blend.
- Time-aligned dry/wet blending, with a fixed 8-sample latency.
- Stereo sample-peak metering, a rolling 3-second K-weighted short-term LUFS reading, a post-output waveform history, and a live transfer curve display.
The plugin is a “pay what you like” download for Windows and macOS in VST3 aud AU formats.
