Gazillion Industries has announced the release of a saturation and loudness effect plugin designed to make sounds thicker, punchier and more up front.
Suitable for everything from filling out a thin source to pushing it into overtly saturated territory, Beefy is aimed particularly at 808s and bass, where its soft clipping brings rounded, fuzzy edges to the loudest parts, adding harmonics above the low end and taking a clean bass note toward a growl.
It’s built to work on more than drums and bass too, suiting thin synths, chopped samples, electric piano, guitar, or vocals that need attitude.
Beefy features
- Beef: Main saturation and density control, adding weight, loudness, and attitude as it’s turned up.
- Cook: Shaping color and bite from rounder toward brighter and more cooked.
- Juice: Setting input gain going into the saturation stage.
- Soft Clip: Engaged by default, handling initial gain staging automatically as the clipping finds the sound.
- Limit: Alternative output-peak control that can be used instead of or alongside SOFT CLIP, with input and output clip lights on both ends.
Beefy for Windows and Mac (VST3/AU and standalone) is available to purchase for $19 USD. Other paid plugins available include the F(ilter)12 12-bit sauce filter, Triple OG cassette tape simulation, and Skruu varispeed pitch.
The free Drugs bus compressor effect features a single DOSE macro control designed to make a drum bus denser rather than louder, delivering the “vinyl sim sound”.
Vinyl sim is shorthand for a particular kind of squash — dense, slightly crushed drums with the room pushed up under the hits, the way a break sounds once it has been through a sampler. DRUGS goes at that sound directly, on the drum bus, with one knob and no setup.
