HISS and a ROAR has released two new field-recorded sound effects libraries, one capturing vintage car horn toots and the other a full destruction session on an old wardrobe.
UFX058 Horn Ahooga captures vintage ahooga horn toots from Tim Prebble’s own 1927 Chev Roadster, recorded with an MKH8050 close to the horn and an MKH8040 pair a cable length away on a calm, windless day.
On sale for the launch price of $6 USD (regular $9 USD), the set includes toots with the engine off, toots with the engine idling, and a version with the engine idle removed using RX, since the horn’s pitch reached noticeably higher with the engine running than without it. The library is free for owners of VEH006 1927 CHEV.
SD087 Wardrobe Destruction documents the slow destruction of an old oak wardrobe, too large to fit in the studio, recorded outdoors on a sunny, windless day with an MKH8040 pair outside and an MKH8020 pair placed inside the wardrobe to capture low-end resonance.
The session runs from hits, drags, rocks, and drops on the intact piece, through vibe-gun treatment with soft and hard beaters, to full structural breakdown with a rubber hammer and crowbar, ending in a pile of wooden rubble thrown against a bookcase and finished off with more vibe gun.
Wardrobe Destruction is on sale for $49 USD (regular $79 USD). The offer expires October 5th, 2026.
